Perhaps while yall are visiting Cryptic you could ask if there are plans to fix people's gear that ended up with worse stats, lost modifiers, or inappropriate modifiers.
I like the upgrade system overall, but my Ultra-Rare Crit-X'n Dual Heavy Aux Phaser cannons are annoying for what they cost.
BOFFs would be split up as well, and once it goes live, you'd be able to choose for each of your existing BOFFs to remain with their current career or change to the new split career(Sci BOFFs could become Meds, for instance), once per BOFF. Ship BOFF seats would be split up accordingly, but some may have a Commander seat that could allow either of the split careers(a vet Heavy Destroyer for instance could seat either Tac or Sec in its Cmdr seat)
Or Security, Operations, and Medical could just be career-specific specializations.
Just a random thought, Geko.

I like this. A lot. It's got me thinking, why not do this, but also have sub-classing? There's enough support for it in canon (for example, Tom Paris was the Conn/Helm officer, but because a nurse because of relative experience) and it would allow people who want to specialise in a track have a slight edge -- going all Security would give a slight tactical advantage of those with Security/Medical (but naturally they have the medical edge), and would allow for much better character customisation. They wouldn't even need to increase the level cap, just allow us to pump expertise into sub-class levels. Of course, the sub-class would need to be capped somehow lest players become too OP.
