I'm just wondering if it's worth using Dil to upgrade some of my white/green DOff's to purple's.
Thing is I know you can buy purple DOff's on the exchange, but they cost millions of EC each - and I do not have that kind of money. lol. I also don't really play anywhere near enough to generate millions of EC...
I spend most of my time doing stuff to get marks for the different rep's, and repeating some story missions for achievements & filling out equipment bonuses (ie doing the Solanae missions for that gear, Jemdar gear, etc).
I have around 1 million EC & roughly ~200K Dilithium. Nowhere near enough EC to buy any purple DOff's, and at ~12K Dill per purple DOff...I can get around 16. lol Although ATM I only have access to those from the Development line...
I also realize that the Delta expansion is right around the corner, so not sure if I should just cough up and buy some purple DOff's now, or wait to see if there is any other use that will come about due to the new expansio.
There is also the whole upgrade system - does that use Dilitihum? I haven't really bothered about it... seeing as I've read ppl are having issue's with it. And since what I have right now are generally all purple XI & XII gear already.... don't think I can do much upgrading right now, at least not till expansion is out.
So I'm left sesawing on my decision... spend Dill now on purple DOff's, or wait and see what Delta expansion brings... considering the high Dill requirements on rep gear, I might just need a huge chunk of dill if the gear is any actual good... or might need the Dill to upgrade gear instead.
how long does it take you to make EC to jsut buy from exchange?
but really trading for them is not a bad deal. consider exchanging dil for zen then buy keys and sell them for EC to buy the doffs. you going to spend a loot more dill getting the zen than trading up. but when trading up its random what you will get . and could possible cost alot more dil to get what you want. so in that case the exchange is a much better deal. just as the smart money is on buying a lockbox ship off exchange rather than playing the lottery .
so as i said do the math that applies to you.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
The dilithium doffs are bind on pickup so you can't get those specific ones off exchange. The ones from lockboxes are only found via lockbox stuff or the exchange. It really comes down to the question of what you're after and how important the specifics are. For example, if you're after a doff for "space duty" that does something really snazzy, exchange might be better. If you're looking for a trader that you can use on trade assignments, it will come down to price. If you're looking for a doff that's otherwise hugely expensive (e.g. a researcher with three specific traits) then the dilithium doff offerings might be better.
So I'm left sesawing on my decision... spend Dill now on purple DOff's, or wait and see what Delta expansion brings... considering the high Dill requirements on rep gear, I might just need a huge chunk of dill if the gear is any actual good... or might need the Dill to upgrade gear instead.
Any advice / thoughts?
It's simply really...what did you plan on doing with those purple doffs?
If you are buying them just to buy them then dont buy them. If you are buying them to meet a specific purpose like for crafting or a build then let us know which one. That way the people who have been tracking DR changes can say if that build will still be same in DR or if it will be changed. I mention that because there is a huge thread in the mechanics subforum talking about this.
That above list link has a list of blue and purple doffs you can get from the cluster missions. The blue doffs from Renown you can only get once, if you delete them or lose them thats it. But the purple doffs from the cluster missions you can get multiple times.
That link outlines each step for the cluster doff missions. Each cluster has it and each has their own doff rewards. The way it works is you go to a cluster and look at the missions. You are looking for one that says Colony Site Survey in *name of cluster* 1/7. There are a few other doff missions in the area but the site survey is the one you want that has the 1/7. Now part 1 thru 6 wont always show up. If they arent there when you check then go back after the sector update. When you do find it, do it and succeed then you complete that part of the chain and you do 2/7, 3/7 all the way to 6/7. When you complete 6/7 then you get a mission called "Renown" which is part 7/7 and that mission has a 100% on the doff mission list for that cluster. Part 7/7 also has a 100% chance to rewards a rare doff, but be careful with that doff. Part 7/7 cannot be repeated so if you dismiss or get rid of that doff then it is gone for good.
Once you've completed part 7/7 in a cluster then you need to keep checking back for a mission called "Support Colonization Efforts" or "Support Expansion Efforts". The duration is 4 hours and the mission itself is 'rare' quality. Those two missions wont always show up so you have to keep checking the cluster again after every sector update. When you do see it and you do it if you complete the mission and it is a critical success then you get the purple doff (the ones on the first link i posted). If you just get a regular success then you only get a refugee.
NOW my advice, which was probably already covered in the links other people provided....is if you plan on doing the cluster missions, then it might help to buy a few common/uncommon/rare doffs to help your crit chance. For step 1-6 you can probably use common and uncommon quality doffs. Some of those also use colonists so every shipboard update you get you should check your operations department head and do the mission that rewards 5 colonists. Part 7 i dont think needs a doff, the two repeatable missions after part 7 require doffs, and thats where i think you should spend some time and try to get rare quality or uncommon and try to get the right department and traits on them too help crit chance. Below is each step of a cluster mission just look through it to see what type of doff and what kind of traits they need:
So... what am I missing here? Why the sudden need for very rare Doffs? I don't really follow all the news about Delta Rising.
You can get very rare Doffs for free or very low actual EC cost if you have the time and patience to do so. The various Asylum / Sanctuary missions requires a refugee (w/ specific traits for best results), this rewards a random Doff of any quality. However, getting a very rare Doff is umm.... very rare. These missions can be found on certain homeworlds (Earth, Vulcan, Andoria, Qo'nos, etc) or in sector space. This is hit or miss, but the chance is there.
There are the colonization assignment chains in various sectors that have a chain of 7 missions to establish a colony. The final mission rewards you with one blue Doffs and opens up the "Support Colonization" (Fed) / "Support Expansion" (KDF) mission which rewards a specific purple Doff and this mission can be repeated to get multiple copies of the same purple Doff. The catch is the purple Doff is only rewarded on critical success. Therefore, you need to make many attempt before you actually get one. Critical success is based on the quality of the Doffs used for the mission.
Since you are doing the STFs to earn marks for the various rep systems, I recommend that you sell the R&D resource packs rewarded at the end of the STFs. All STFs reward these packs, R&D resource packs from elite STF are "Advanced" while the packs from normal STFs are "Normal".
During the Crafting Bonus XP event, the value of some of these packs were pretty high compared to normal. But you can still earn some decent ECs now by just selling them... unless you are planning to craft items in the future. Even so, if your crafting levels are low, then these R&D packs are really not much use now anyway, so just sell them.
I recommend you try Undine Infiltration Elite. This is actually a pretty easy mission, you may die a couple of times at first, but that isn't really anything to worry about. Just go to a medical bay to heal your injuries afterwards. As a reward you will get a "Dentarium" R&D pack which generally sells for at least 450k EC on the Exchange depending on the time of the day and current demand. I think I sold one for as much as 650k EC, but I needed to wait for a few days for it to be sold.
The mission takes around 15 minutes to complete and has a 30 minute cooldown. That means if you have the time you can do this mission twice in one hour. The two Dentarium R&D packs would be worth approximately 1 million EC.

Been selling the R/D packs since the event started.
Before the event, normals were 5-10 k ec...during? 50k +; Advanced - 20-ish K for the more common ones. Been selling those at 100k each....both within a few minutes. Closer to 200k many times. So I started putting half of the ones I get on the exchange and been using the funds to get stuff taken care of, project wise, for the fleet.
Also, the demand for dilithium is pretty high...sooooo, instead of building dilithium as I would be with these new characters of mine....been doing elites and buying zen. Want to see how much I can accrue by launch. Take care of a couple things; ec character cap, shared bank account, and...maybe a ship, or two.
Considering you can gather A LOT of blue and purple doffs from assignments and assignment chains, it will be a really bad call to use dilithium to upgrade your doffs, specially when it is so expensive (actually i dont have any idea how much expensive it is, but i know the drill.. lol) . Right now, dilithium must be saved in all ways, because i suspect that the dilithium sink is only started.

Yeah, I have been selling the R&D packs ever since season 9.5 started. However, I recently decided that I will level two of my toons in the crafting system so for those two toons I basically sell half of the R&D packs and open the other half to build up some resource inventory.
I purchased the EC Cap Remover back in March. I actually acquired the shared bank account when I subscribed for one month back in May or June. Subbing also gives you 6 extra bank and personal inventory slots for each rank and is retroactive so current max level toons will have an additional 36 slots in their bank and personal inventories. You also get a respec token when your toon advances one rank. Max level toons get nothing though. You also get an extra toon slot. Overall, a pretty decent deal for $15 and you get the 500 Zen stipend.

(I think you should save your dil)

It all depends on the nature of the need.
