Advice please! Character type for Vesta

Hi All,

I don't like to fly multiple ships with my characters - I see them as being the captain of their own ship with their own story.

Therefore, I tend to find a ship I like, then create a character to work towards flying that ship.

I really like the Vesta, so I want to work on a character who will eventually fly one. Once they hit lvl 50 I'll buy the pack.

My problem is this:

I can't decide what class to create the character as. I've currently got:

2x Fed Tac's (escort and assault cruiser)
1x Fed Eng (Oddy)
1x Fed Sci (Intrepid)
1x Rom/Fed Eng (D'd)
1x KDF Tac (Mogh)

Tac's are probably my fav (hence having 3x) but I'd be happy to build another Sci. I've just finished an eng, so I'd rather not to do that again yet.

So what's better for the Vesta? I know that an aux heavy build works well with it, and that implies science - but a Tac captain can run Science boffs without issue...so....

I guess I'm looking for a good reason to pick one over the other?

All advice gratefully received :)

Thanks in advance!

NB: Before anyone says anything about waiting for T6 - It doesn't worry me. I'll quite happily go T5U and keep flying what I've got. I have no interest in PvP, so I have no interest in having the latest thing just because it's 'better'. If I get a T6 ship at some point it'll be because I like it and want to fly it. Nothing is really making me want to do that right now.

Personally I've done it both ways and it largely depends on the build. With the Aux Cannons you can run really high aux and still be a gunship so that is no longer a limiting factor. It comes down to character skills. If you're building for DPS with science support (especially damage-based builds like FBP), then you'll want a tac to APA-boost your attacks. If you're going more a Science Ship that also has teeth, or PVP where you want subnuc, then a more sci-heavy captain is a better bet. Its a remarkably flexible ship, and anyone can use it in a way that works with their particular strengths.

    Any.

A tac can accentuate the Vesta's damage-dealing abilities. Many sci powers are buffed by tac buffs, which few people take advantage of but it's a lot of fun.

Vesta can also be built sci-heavy, and excels at that, too. Although a sci captain with a tac-heavy build is also fun sometimes.

The main downside of the Vesta is its weak hull, and an eng captain makes up for that deficiency. Engineers can't maximize the ship's other aspects but you can still do well.

Sadly, as long TAC powers boost all powers regardless of type, TAC = DPS = King.
