Will STO one day in the future, ever have the option for VR software capability?

I know I would find it fun, as well as some other's may as well.

The ability, to go beyond simple key binding, would be how Spock would put it "Fascinating".

The whole concept, of being able to tell the game what/when, you want your skills activated would be interactive, and fun!

This would be an option, as other's can stick to the more traditional controls, if they so prefer to.

Just some food for thought! :)

I am not saying it would not be fun, but realistically it has taken them over 4 years to get the game to what it should have been at Launch - and PvP is still massively sub-par. Even with this end-game Expansion coming out the game still needs so much more playable Content; plus the game really needs an Exploration system. I really do not see a VR system coming into play.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

You could use this to make your gameplay more fun i guess. Seems all the rage for elite dangerous and star citizen and should i reckon be useable in other games like sto.

Bind your voice to keybinds i.e say fire weapons it will fire weapons, more power to shields fore, then it will do it. etc.

Vid of what it can do kinda. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxhiLpLeFhU

I'm gonna be blunt... Given the amount of work I'm presuming this would take to add, for the very small number of people who are going to be able to benefit from the technology, I would hope that Cryptic not waste their time and instead invest that effort and resources into more content for all players...

That kind of software shows promise, and yes something like that for STO would be awesome.

    Voice Recognition, not Virtual Reality.

It could be done, even if they needed work with an outside software company!

Doubtful. Because, and the irony is palpable, VR technology is one of the most undesired features in today's gaming market. Look at it: Occulus RIFT gets bought by Facebook and public opinion of the device almost immediately falls. Motion control on consoles is universally panned. Even Nintendo is moving away from the Wii-mote and trying to revert back to control paddle function. Kinect and the Playstation Move? Fewer and fewer support is being done for them. Voice software is also going down the tubes, thanks to the hilarious feats on Xbox One.

VR looks great in fiction. But reality? Not so much.

An Occulus Rift could really make it feel like those 50km planets are really there.

to me it would not work very well, if i turn left for example by pressing a hot key i will keep turning left as long as the hotkey is pressed at the same time i can press multiple other hotkeys for weapons and buffs.
giving multiple voice commands for all these actions would be very confusing not to mention noisy and annoying for others in the house.
and thats just a few of the voice commands you would need to cover the many many actions that are available in the game.

lets face it i can turn, fire phasers and torps while reinforcing my shields in the time it takes you to say the "f" from "fire".

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

You can customize the commands, keys length of use, and such.

Like I said, it is for people who prefer a more interactive experience, not for everyone!

theres a simple way to see how well it would work, next time your doing a Crystalline entity or STF elite dont press the hotkey until you have finished saying the voice command for that action and just see how well you do, if you do as well as normal or if it is a complete failure you will know if its a practical idea or not.

Will give it a shot, besides even clicking manually I find the game doesn't respond all the time either.

Meaning, I find I have to either click the icon more than once, or hold down the key for more than a second, or click and hold on the icon, for the skill to respond.

It could be partially internet lag, but I also believe it is partially faulty programming.

I find the system to be extremely fun to use after I saw it mentioned on this thread. Just make sure there are no external sounds being picked up or your screwed.
