HOBO' No BS Tournament V ~Rules & Registration~

edited October 2014 in PvP Gameplay
Hi everybody. Before Delta Rising releases, House of Beautiful Orions would like to host a No BS 5 tournament and I wanted to post this to gauge interest and start the sign-up process.

For those not familiar with the format, No BS tournaments basically use a set of rules intended to cut down on spam (universal, pet, exploit, etc.), gimmicky single-profession teams, and other nonsense. These tournaments have been a lot of fun for the participants in the past and we think it would be fun to have one last T-5 NoBS tournament before the paradigm shifts and our power creeps.

The Rules

1- Have fun!

2- Limit of one of each type of clickable universal console per team (excepting those from lock box ships). and no console swap !

2- No more than 2 of the same ship type.

3- No more than 3 of the same captain type.

4- Maximum of 4 hangar bays per team (recluse have 2, as an example).

5- No boarding parties. :P

6- No D'kora EMP burst.

7- No Scramble Sensor DOFF.

8- Limit of one Temporal Inversion Field (TIF).

9- No ''Hangar - Yellowstone Runabouts''

The tournament will be in two phases..

-The playoff will be Saturday 11th October (time limit of 30 minutes per match. After time, if there is a draw the next kill will win the match (golden goal)).

-Semi-final and Final Sunday 12th October (time limit of 45 minutes for the Semi-finals and one hour for the Final)

Game Times will depend on how many teams intend to participate. Matches will be scheduled at times that suit the participants and help the tournmanent move along smoothly and at a good pace.

- German Time: 21.00 Uhr
- British Time: 20 o`clock
- East Cost time: 3.00 p.m.
- West Coast time: 12.00 p.m.

- As in Previous tournaments we’ll want to make use of a referee, and we will livestream the tournament on Twitch.

Everybody is welcome to join. If you’re solo and don’t have a team you can sign up to be put into one. If doing so, do please tell us what captain type you are and what ship you’ll be using.

Contact: @nebulgamnezar if you have any question !

Does the 'only one uni console per team' rule cover console swapping, or is that still allowed?

So does this mean your allowed to Console Swap?
You think that your beta test was bad?

Given the host and the lack of clarification by the OP, I think it's understood that it's a yes.

I would hope its No for that... with this rule

2- Limit of one of each type of clickable universal console per team (excepting those from lock box ships).

But hey, I figured I should ask.. I mean it is the Hobos after all ;)

*sigh* Have finally got a few good ppl from my fleet into pvp and this tourny would of been a good learning curve for them.

But alas with all this bickering going on just in the tourny sign up thread, im afraid Galactic Horde will pass.

Shame really, been looking forward to a tourny with set rules to try and make an even playing field..I guess i will have to just keep on looking:(

Just looked at the scheduling and I doubt even if I was interested in joining this.. Tournament.. That work would allow me to..

Not to mention the attitude I'm seeing from the OP is making me less inclined especially when a few very valid points are being brought up, yet instead of being an adult about it, has been giving childish responses telling possible entrants to go away.. Maybe they want to sign up, but want rules cleared too.

You are absolutely right. I was seriously thinking of filling a team indeed. Many of the HOBOs already know Kolos, a German PvPer in our fleet seeing how Mini and many other HOBOs die to him all the time getting killed by him all the time. Kolos was just a regular PvE farmer a year ago in Kerrat until the HOBO decided to gank him while he was farming, which turned him into an anti-HOBO PvPer. Seeing how good he has become and the HOBO's crying has intensified, it was a good sign but not enough to fill a team. Then a couple of days ago, a relatively new recruit in our fleet who appeared to be a long time STO player that just came back to the game went on to challenge Kolos in a private. I was there to watch the two fight, expecting the new guy to get a beating. Boy, my jaw dropped, it went 3-0 for the new guy in no time. It turned out, he used to pvp and appeared to know a lot of rules of PvP. Even though he claims to be rusty and his internet connection is *DSLow* - I immediately asked for his help to combat the evul HOBOs. Upon hearing the name *HOBO*, the guy went on to describe : &*#$&$!# re: HOBO which I shall not repeat here and he accepted. :) Don't know what history he had with them but it was music to my ears. :) He is getting High Speed internet the coming week, after that we'll make sure he is up to date with the new updates and get the necessary equipment - but boy, with a player of this calibre, we have 3 people already and can realistically grab a couple of PvE members who are decent enough to form a team.

So getting the rules clarified are important to us especially knowing how cheesy HOBOs are. I was reading between the lines re: post #1 - and saw that it was designed to allow HOBOs to fill the same old same cheesy set up using all lock box ships with virtually unlimited clickable consoles, so decided to call them on it.

Alrighty boys and girls, I've wiped 99% of the posts off this thread because of one, or more of the following reasons

    1. They were off-topic/spam
    2. They were vulgar thus violating the rules (and got warnings)
    3. They were flaming/trolling thus violating the rules (and got warnings)
    4. They were replies to the above.

Stay on topic or I'll play forum PvP and I think my gear is OP and doesn't need to be nerfed ;)
Yes, I'm that Askray@Batbayer in game. Yes, I still play. No, I don't care.

    NICE

    It's more readable now.

How was the last comment off topic?

You want more participation and i suggested a solution to give it to Zelda. Cuts the arguing out and its all about fun PvP. People would tend to pick less on the rules and want to turn up.

    *sigh*

Why dont you have real balance in the tournament?

    Make it simple:

Choose from one of THREE Tier 5 ships (No Lockbox/Fleet Ships)

    No universal consoles

    No Lockbox traits

Plus any other 'P2W' items/consumables/etc that I've missed.

Strip it back to bare bones, hell you could even go for white only gear if you could trust people to equip it :D

The more layers of fluff you remove, the more you reveal the player and teams actual ability.

Reduces participation because most people want to fly their hard earned shinies

    No universal consoles
    Good idea

    No Lockbox traits
Hard to meansure and create more arguments

Plus any other 'P2W' items/consumables/etc that I've missed.
Good possibility as long as you can see it

The more layers of fluff you remove, the more you reveal the player and teams actual ability.

On the whole not a bad idea....

    7- No Scramble Sensor DOFF.

What is the reasoning behind outright banning this duty officer? All it does is mess up perfecting timing Auxiliary to Battery builds. It is easily countered by Science Team and the Cleanse All Debuffs Warp Core Engineer.

For the people saying no uni consoles at all, I don't really think that's feasible. For one, most of the passive consoles would be impossible to enforce because you can't tell if they're being used or not, and two, with the defensive powercreep nowadays, clicky consoles are *almost required to get a kill against a heavily defensive team. I say "almost" because you can get kills without them, you just have to have lucky crits and it would really just drag the game out and have like a 1-0 score at the end of 30 minutes.

On the flip side, I wouldn't mind seeing the Fluidic Phase Decoupler banned from this tourney. That is the one console that can drag matches out longer than anything else. And of course No Console Swapping of identical consoles to avoid the 3 minute CD should be in the rules.

I thought it was no click conosles that was suggested.

It is also very possible to get kills with out click consoles, as long as things like fluidic are also not in play.

But yeah, I never said it was impossible to get kills without uni-consoles, I just feel that it prolongs the match and makes it less fun overall. Less kills = less exciting = less fun, at least in my book.

Right they where talking about Click universal consoles. Until Patrick I think assumed they where talking about more then that.

To most people its the other way around... all the silly click consoles are a large part of what they consider unfun. There is nothing fun about black cloud... or AMS... or Acetons... or Gravity Pulse... or ISO. ect ect

End a match faster of course they do... I doubt with the current meta matches will be dragging on for hours. For sure not when you remove peoples escape consoles.

2- No more than 2 of the same ship type.

    Just to clarify:

Do you mean no more than two Science Ships, or no more than two of the same science ship.

And no trolling here, please add no console swooping as a rule
    :)
