So the above happened yesterday while perusing the list of ships that will have the upgrade option for Delta Rising.
I'm not completely surprised, but all the same I'm kind of torn now.
1)Do I hang on to my free T5 Fed Patrol Escort that I recieved at lvl 40, and have become fairly comfortable with? I've grown accustomed to the 2 Tac (cmdr & Lt cmdr) 2 Eng (Lt & Ensign) and 1 Sci (Lt) stations. I think that now at lvl 50 I've finally figured out that I like the balance that gives me while still being able to dish out damage with my cannons.
2)Do I opt for a T5 escort that is upgradable? I skimmed through the list last night and the only one that caught my eye as being close to my current layout was the Fleet Escort Retrofit. That one looks like it has the same Bridge Station layout. However it has a smaller Max Crew of 50 whereas I'm currently sitting around 90 of my 200 Max Crew with my current Patrol Escort.
3)Should I wait for Delta Rising to be released and see what the full specs are on the T6's?

im a little cofused by your statement (part 2) when you say you have a crew of 90 of max 200 are you refering to duty officers?
if this is the case let me clarify if a ships crew is 200 thats how many crew you have, you could have a ship with a crew of 50 and still have 90 or more duty officer.
i think you can buy to a max of 500 duty officer slots and fill them all and still fly a ship with 50 crew.
but in reply to your question, do whatever feels good to you.
When I think about everything we've been through together,
maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,
and if that journey takes a little longer,
so we can do something we all believe in,
I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

Get the Patrol Escort Refit a.k.a. "Tempest", While it doesn't have the EXACT same Boff layout, it still has the same number of slots, in the same places if you make the Uni an Eng. Has the same crew of 200, can use the same skins and parts you're using now, and is upgradable to T5-U.
I have the Fleet version, flew the regular T5 before that, and will be upgrading it at some point. I like the ship. Well worth the latinum.

I miss the Fleet Patrol Escort(removed from game).
T6 is where all the future development will be. As such, a T5 ship is just a hole in the ground that you throw money into. Wait until they release a T6 ship that you want to fly, use free ships in the meantime.

1. Freebie ships won't upgrade. Sucks, I know, but that's what's been said. Do remember, however, that the initial content won't "rely" on you having anything but your trusty T5 (L40 edition). And you probably have ground up a freebie ship that gets a T5U11 upgrade for free, I hope...
2A - What the guy who said "get tempest, slot Eng in Uni slot", works... I slotted the uni in my Vesta (Science Edition) to give me the same layout as I had on my L40 Luna...
2B - sounds like you're confusing "max crew" as the space combat trait with your DOff list - I have a 50 crew ship with 500 DOffs, and they're all always available...
3. T6 ship specs should be "coming soon", well before the actual launch of DR. Make your decision then... Supposedly, the only thing not being released prior to DR is the story - yet many of the missions are up on Tribble already... <facepalm>
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

I say wait and see. That said ... does it really make sense to spend up to $10 on a ship that is inferior to T6 except possibly the 11th console? You know T6+ will be around the corner with 11 consoles. There will be T6 lock box and T6 fleet soon enough.

As things stand, the difference between a T5-U and T6 really isn't that big a deal. In all practicality, it will be a smaller difference than a T5 and Fleet T5. The most important attributes, the scaling hull and extra console, are both there, as are the 4 Mastery levels that are generally class-specific buffs.
What T6 gets is a Trait (yet to be explained), which I don't think is going to account for much in actual gameplay, specialist bridge officer seating (which notably won't be on all T6 ships, though the ones in the Delta pack all do, apparently), and perhaps most importantly an additional bridge officer ability.
For the time being, T5-U ships are quite competitive compared to T6 ships. This, of course, is likely to change in the future. But saying, "hold off now, because the next great thing is right around the bend," is always going to hold true, right up until the game is announced to end (in which case, why invest anything anymore anyway?).
I've already purchased the Delta pack, because I do very much enjoy this game. However, for most people, I would wait for things to go live before making a move on obtaining a ship that can be upgraded to T5-U if you don't have/like one already. While I don't think the T6 ships are going to be that much better than the T5-Us, I would suspect that there will be more than a few of us flying T6s instead of T5-Us at launch.
I will continue to use the free T5 ships (or mirror ships) once DR is released. While I have looked at the T5.5 ships as possible purchases (prior to the announcement of DR), I felt that none of them were really worth the asking price of 2,500 Zen (more for the packs).
Since the T6 ships will have better abilities than T5.5, then they just might be worth purchasing if I am having difficulty doing some of the new content. I am still having fun with the T5 ships.

Basically the Patrol Escort/Fleet Patrol Escort can be upgraded, for Zen naturally, to T5U and becomes the Refit version of the PE/FPE, with one less BOFF station.
Personally I'm sitting on my wallet until I see some stats to see just how badly us FPE owners are being shafted by this.

Why don't you try it out on tribble?
Tribble is locked for gold only right now. If they're silver, they can't.
As for the OP: I'd just wait for the time being. DR isn't that far away now, better to just sit on it until then IMO.

Ah!
Didn't know that.
It was just a suggestion so he/she could try even his current ship and se how it performed in the new content.
Yeah, as F2P I'm locked out of Tribble. I guess I'll just wait.

you're correct sir.
that didn't occur to me
With new patches the list will grow.
