Didn't think of that... but it could be useful when running into the clog of godawful huge ships that seem to be parked around every desirable warp destination these days.
Does it have some safety to not send players through sector boundaries? Cause cruising too far beyond those has resulted in some being unable to login to their characters due to the position of them being so far out of bounds it causes a crash of the client immediately.
I assume this works like singularity jump, which is infamous for going through walls.
Jeff, there's FUN ... and then there's USEFUL.
How *useful* is this Space Fold ability? What's the cooldown on it? If the cooldown on it is short enough (under 30-60 seconds?) it could be darn useful on top of being fun.
2LY isn't much in sector space and isn't even really 2 light years. and the reason it can't be used in system space is there isn't a single one large enough. 1 light year at warp one should take.. 1 year but in game it doesn't. warp one is like 5 times the speed of light. but back to the point it is just a silly gimmick. So really it doesn't have a true use it is just a gimmick.
The Fold is basically a Sector Space only power (kind of like Slipstream) which has you pop 2 light years ahead of your current position (if you were moving, you don't lose momentum) and then goes on a 15 second cooldown.
That's pretty much it.
Personally, I like it. It's a neat little feature that comes with the Solanae warp/singularity core.
15 second cooldown? That can be used multiple times (ie. at least twice) when crossing a single block of a sector on the orthogonal directions. That starts getting actually useful!
Trick question then ... can it be used DURING a Slipstream?

When the average speed of most ships in slipstream is around warp 30, you can go those two light years in the space of 3-5 seconds... so I personally would think it's better off to be used between slipstreams.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once.

Yes, I've used it while in slipstream, helps to cut down on the travel time a bit, on trips from Sol to the transwarp gate at the bottom of the map, as well as when traveling to DS9.
You want mercy? I will show you mercy. Acroyear mercy. The swift mercy of the sword!
I have the core on my Sci Destroyer also, partly to get the 3 piece set bonus from the solange set (the leech) so i don`t need to use the shields from it and partly cause it is just fun to use:D

with all the transwarping going on IDK. Tour of the galaxy?
Is this the dyson ships? Do you have a link?
Sorry, but apparently trying to answer your question I came up with 3 more lol
It would be GREAT if the ability was usable inside Sphere space... take the wait time out of getting from point to point.
Other than that... no clue.
Edit:

OMG yes!!! I hate getting my warbird stuck on a BoP...

lol, this is why you and tacofangs are some of my favourite devs.

It is through repetition that we learn our weakness.
A master with a stone is better than a novice with a sword.
Has damage got out of control?
This is the last thing I will post.
I have a few small phrases for you.

Sol System Spawn
Solonae Dyson Sphere Spawn
Q'onos Spawn
DS9 Spawn
Haven't had a chance to try it yet, but if it has great animation and is what you say it is... then yeah, I'd agree!

Tovan Khev: *Sigh* Admiral, there's another bird stuck in the grill, again.
Really they just need some big windshield wipers.
Un-named Admiral: Dangit, I hate having to fire off the Thalaron just to get the junk off the front. Oh wells. Charge and fire when ready.
we're in 8.5 and dinos rule. How about a space pterodactyl?
Lets see, Borg engine plus slip stream, plus, transwarp, plus jump= maximum possible award from tour.
I would be a lot happyer with it if it took u 4 ly for double the cd but it is fun to keep over taking ppl.
