Aside from the setting... The core aspect of what makes Star Trek Star Trek is allegory. Every story told in Star Trek is a way of examing what people could be like. The Cheron(as silly as the execution of the idea was) were an allegory for racism. There were many episodes examining the fear of the unknown.

With Hazardous Zones being set zone-wide, perhaps we have a safe-area volume? And maybe areas around spawn points would by default be safe.

With option #5, the way it was worded made it like it would be exploited by shield levels and such. But the idea was it to control abilities that gives us True Star Trek vs STO Star Trek. That way Foundry authors would have classic Trek battles, especially if they take place in the pre-STO eras.

Hey folks, looks like we are going to do a weekend show. We've got a guest who couldn't make it tonight, and I'm also a bit sick and I think talking for two hours would kill me.

We've tentatively scheduled it for 4:30 p.m. U.S. Eastern Time on Saturday.

And we really want to hear some discussion on this: "Trek Feel" what is it? and how do you capture it?

Well, one of the core aspects of Trek seems to be the way it takes outlandish sci-fi scenarios and makes them relatable. Like the Cheron, their cultures had tech that made their exploits outlandish. But the motivations they had were familiar enough to make them relatable.

Definitely an important part of Trek, but I don't think that's really required. There were plenty of episodes that were just fun without social commentary (One Little Ship comes to mind).

I wasn't talking about social commentary, I was talking about the use of real-world analogies to explain the story. One Little ship used analogies to explain why the situation as dangerous.

Ok I see what you're saying. I think you kind of have to do that to make sure you're audience understands.

I do that a lot in my stories for my newspaper when I'm writing about a very technical subject. I find the best thing to do is to first say the technical explanation first, then find some way to summarize it in layman's terms. The same principle would apply to making sure something futuristic is understandable to modern audiences.

I have no doubt that there are a few techniques (tropes even?) used by various episodes of Trek. I would say that at its core, one could find a fairly consistent act structure that usually revolved around identifying, exploring, assessing and implementing a solution to whatever problem was faced by the crew.

I'd agree with that. At it's core Star Trek is about people coming together to solve problems. And I think a large part of that as well is that it is people of different backgrounds coming together, using alien races as a stand-in for humans of different backgrounds.

Possible tech topic for next show: building interiors. Yeah we've discussed it before but Dragonsbrethren was asking for help on it.

I already have a tech topic for this week. Building skycastles will require more setup time anyway.

For one thing we'll need to figure out ahead of time what walls and floors and other objects are not invisible right now.

Yeah, it seems like only the building blocks and some buildings have the icons. It would be far less time consuming to make a list of what is visible.
