Hardpoints

Hello,
I don't really know if there was a post about this since the search engine didn't show any at all.

Basically, I'd love to see some hardpoints in the game, even if only visually. I mean, we do see them in the game on the textures of ships, IE torpedo tubes, phaser lines, cannons on ships. And for the most part it does work.

Dual beams, dual, heavy and quad cannons work for the same part. But when you're flying a ship with 8 turrets, it is a little weird to have them all shoot from a single spot, especially if you are flying something bigger, like Voth Bastion. The same goes for singular beams, too.

My idea would be, that each ship would have, let's say 2 hardpoints front and 2 back (for beam arrays and turrets) and the hardpoints would be chosen based on where you fire (as in, if you fire front with turrets + dual beam + torpedo, you'd fire from dual beam as usual, two hardpoints would fire turrets and torpedo would also work as usual).

I'm unsure how much of this is intended balance-wise (as you can pretty much tell easily what kind of weapons a ship has when it fires on you - PvP wise), and how much of it is just... Well, being like it is. But I think it'd be a nice improvement.

Anyone else has any thoughts on this?

    Heh. I have said that before. It machine guns with turrets. I think that it looks weird, but also kind of cool. I don't ever use eight of them, though. If I go All-Turrets then I equip the two Console Turrets also.

    I ~would~ like to see weapon firing from the correct places, though: phasers from the arrays and torpedos from the tubes.

    I think this is a great point. The firing in the game is really not that great since we're either firing through our ship, out of our nacelles (which i've never seen on film/tv) or just randomly firing from no where. On my BoP, i have two very large cannons at the end of each wing, yet they don't fire... at all... the only time i've seen them shoot is if i have the quads equipped. Shouldn't they be my default hardpoint?

    All I want is for DBBs and DHCs on the T6 raptor to not have a shared hard point. If DHCs and DCs had to share one or DCs and DBBs, I would call that a fair trade. :D

    Yeah, only the quad cannons are using the wing mounted cannons, the DHC's and the DC's just come from the bits under the "head".

    I was actually thinking about this recently...I was thinking that they should move the DBB hardpoint from the DHC point to the DC point...since no one uses DC's anyways.

    But I suppose switching the hardpoint to one DC's and DHC's use would make more sense.
