Maybe in Nov or Dec there will be a T6 lobi option. Better that you buy that (though maybe not if it's a Kazon ship, lulz) than a subpar hunk of junk now.
Wait until after Exp 2 is released. Buying now is a bad idea.
This 10 times.
The new t6 will have an extra ship traits, and an extra [redacted] boff seat (a new and unique boff that will be added with the expansion).
Knowing cryptic with their "powercreep=money" rule, and having seen the leaks around the [redacted] new BOFF, I can already tell you it will be a very interesting feature. Also, they'll need to sell those t6, and they'll need to make them really attractive, just like SRO for romulan for the last expansion. You might regret having used so much when you'll see that, and the future t6 box ships.
Save it, all current Lobi/Lockbox Ships currently swim in yellow fluid, don't touch them.
Beta, LTA, CE, Multiple preorder Versions, all Addon Packs except AoY, nearly all KDF/Rom and ~50% of all Fedships, over 25 LockboxShips, Endurer of Atari's "Year of Hell", but...
I agree with everyone else, save the lobi until Delta Rising comes out and we see how badly T-5u ships compete against T-6 ships in pvp and end game PvE. Would be a horrible waste of lobi right now to spend it on a ship that you'l have to toss away once Delta Rising hits because "competative" is translated into "you're a drain on your teammates, and you die, but you can still do some minimal dps"
Remember Cryptic has a horrible case of Power Creep and while every T5 ship is "competative" with every other T5 ship out there, many you shouldn't even bother using in elites and PvP without a very understanding team.
I can only join the chorus and say: wait until DR hits holodeck. We are bound to get a new lotterybox (Valdore console wouldn't surprise me, every other important one is already in a box) and when this happens we'll get a new lobi-ship which is probably a real T6 ship not 5U.

I totally agree.
I'm actually stashing lobi for that express purpose.
The boss being a gigantic Winter Epohh Researcher. As you lay waste to the Epohh Horde, she can occasionally cry out things like, "Didn't you want an Epohh friend?"
Just made 800 Lobi and was thinking about purchasing a Lobi store ship. I'm an engineer. Any pros/cons, recommendations, or points I should consider?
Thanks!
Engineer. Hmm. Not sure.
I think Engineers don't really belong into Escorts, since they have mostly defensive powers, and to really get the most out of an Escort, you want more offense.
They tend to be good in Cruisers (especially if you play support) and Carriers IMO. For PvE, having a few extra tactical powers tend to be more useful tha more defensive powers, however, since offense in STO seems to rule over defense.
However, if you want an Escort, I think the best choise is the new Xindi Escort. 5 front weapon slots are just great.
Options on the Cruiser Side
The Undine Bio-Cruiser seems neat overall.
The Tal SHiar Adapted Battle-Cruiser can serve as Cruiser or as a Science Vessel (though not quite dedicated). THoug I think I mostly like it for its looks.
The Elachi Monbosh Battleship. Not sure what to make of it. Looks cool, however.
Hirogen Apex Heavy Battleship. Not sure what to make of it.
Options Science/Carriers Vessel Side
I think the Voth Palisade is interesting, I use it on a Science Captain on the KDF, and I like it well enough.
Jem'Hadar Dreadnaught: Remains popular. But many only recommend it with the Jem'Hardar Attack Fighter aka "Bug" , which requires having the Lockbox/Special Promotion ship. Seems just wasteful to me, to buy an expensive lobi ship and then buy an even more expensive ship just to get a pet.
Tholian Recluse Carrier. I believe this one is also very popular.
Also, I think you can mostly ignore the concerns about Tier 5 Lockbox/LObi ships being useless after the new expansion. They already get a free upgrade to Tier 5 Upgrade ships. Even if that is not 100 % Tier 6 (by the current plans), it still is mostly, and Cryptic will not really want to risk that future lockbox ships are not sold because people are scared by the next tier upgrade invalidating them. And lockbox and lobi ships are definitely the most expensive things in the game - even if you personally never paid the price, someone spent the Zen that bought the Master Keys, and Cryptic's business relies on such Zen purchases. (And CaptainGeko definitely said that he does not consider this to be the last, without him stating any specific plans on when a new tier gets added. But no one should epxect this to be the last expansion or the last time STO gets a new level cap and a new tier of ships - unless the whole thing flops, but then we may face different problems.)
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Gonna have to go with the majority here, minus the whining. Until we get specific details on how the T5U/T6 upgrade and potential Mark XIV equipment (note, currently entirely theoretical; I don't think we've gotten any official word from Cryptic if there's even going to be such a thing) is going to work, save your money.

I have both the Recluse and the Jem har'dar dreadnought.
They are very good ships that are tons of fun to fly. The will get a free upgrade to t5U, sine they are lobi ships.
So you do get the traits and better hull. You do not get the specialized boff slot. But then again: The Jemmy dread is probably one of the best beatsticks in the game and the recluse is the bane of existence for most who have tried breaking the fcker....
What i want to say is this:
No t6 ship will give you the look of the recluse or the jemmy dread.
The ships will not be suddenly obsolete (if you go by the logic many in this thread are following, you should delete all non romulan toons and fly the scimitar variants exclusively....) when t6 hits.
Yes they will lack some traits of the t6, but at the same time the t6 will miss the traits of the lobi ships.
Mesh weaver frigate pets on the recluse are fantastic. The Jemmy dreads combination of heavy cannons and any fighter/shuttle pets + the option to go all out with buying a jem hardar attack ship to get the best pet in the game... and be your own little dominion fleet....
The Jemmy dead and recluse also offer lots of flexibility in the build you can run on them.
So, buy what you really want to have and have fun with it. Waiting for the "best" will lead you nowhere, since there will always be a new "best" on the horizon....

Cryptic has pissed on all current lobi/lockbox ships. We don't know if there will be any more lobi ships or if they will even be t6.
Wait and see, man

Ignore this statement on a claim which does not have enough evidence to back it up.
I recommend the monbosh for an engy. It's engineer-centric and a very versatile ship to play with. Great survivability too.
Do you honestly think that a starship trait, specialist boff+spcialist boff abilities will not be worth waiting for?

That is up to the user. But we're talking about someone claiming all T5 ships will be obsolete with concrete experience using them and T6s.

Or, if you don't already, could buy 2 lobi items of your choice, or two boffs.... also its up to you but i'd wait on buying a ship until october/X2
Despite advising patience earlier, I would add one caveat.
I don't know what your build is, but have a little look at the various lobi console sets.
While I couldn't honestly describe them all as must haves, nevertheless they can be extremely useful in specific builds.
At 200 lobi a pop for each piece, you might find a two piece bonus you like.
Save your lobi until they release T6 you want to fly

The Tal Shiar Adapted Battlecruiser is perfect for any profession. The universal commander and universal ensign make it great for any one.

On that basis alone, none of the current ships are worth spending on. Almost T6 still isn't fully T6.
dont know about lobi ships but i assume they will og T6 4 free like the LOCKBOXSHIPS
like already announced that those will!
I recommand the recluse
for its one of the best ships in the game
