What happened to "Supreme Commander"?

In the DS9 episode "You Are Cordially Invited", Sisko congratulates Martok for being promoted to Supreme Commander of the 9th Fleet. What happened to that KDF rank in the upcoming expansion?

It's not a KDF Operational Title. It was more in reference to the fact that Martok had Overall Operational Command of the Allied Forces during the Dominion War.

I am Thor, Supreme commander of the Asg... oh wait!

i think that was just a nickname, martok was still a general and addressed as such until later on to his position as chancellor.

Martok replies to Sisko by complaining how much paper work there will be to be a Supreme Commander so it sounds like a real rank to me.

I don't think THQ was ever able to fix the AI pathing bug. Matches that lasted longer than an hour and a half tended to stutter to a crawl, making the game unplayable.

Perhaps it's similar to Eisenhower's "Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces" rank which is just a title/rank during war times only. Maybe similar to a Five Star General typically only for war time.

The Wikipedia article on Military Rank mentions the term "position" in several paragraphs as if it was synonym to rank.

"supreme" is just a word to point that it is big deal, xD, nothing more. Adjetives are not used in ranks.

Is this an opinion or do you have any facts that validates this from a Star Trek IP perspective? Promoting General Martok to a Commander (albeit supreme) makes no sense.

It wasn't a promotion or demotion in rank as such, it's a title given to him to show that he was the highest ranking general in that engagement or campaign and in charge overall, his full title and rank would probably be on the lines of ..

General Martok, Supreme commander of the 9th fleet.

Think of it like our title system in game.
