no thanks, im not going to be one in a number of artificial likes and browser counts to make something look better then where it should be, where it has to earn its place to be. i could use the 10m ec without doubt but not at these type of scam contests were only 1 wins and the rest is just a win win for the organizer and thats it.

It's a nice gesture, whatever the amount. Looks like a nice page as well. I'll try to keep up with it, but I don't do Facebook much (prefer Twitter).

Hey man, I wish I had the assets to give away more than ten million ec but I don't. I can't see anything wrong with bringing people together to talk positively about sto. At the time of this post our page was only two likes away from receiving 100 likes anyway. I was only trying to give people an opportunity to join a positive community with a potential reward. I would hope people are joining more for the community and less for the cash. Just trying to give back to a community that has been so positive!

I agree I wish there were better web sites out there for creating communities however it seems to be one of the easiest and least expensive to lose. There are also Lots of people on facebook so It is generally a common site. If there were something better I would love to use it! Hope you still get the chance to participate though!

Lol, I and the other admin of the page know plenty about sto. This is all a way for us to give back positively to the sto community! You don't have to participate, but why would you not want to? Its all about giving back!

Pretty much every contest on any site regardless of its business winds up on facebook..

Yup. I don't do Facebook. out of principle. And I don't compromize on my principles (that's why they're called principles, because they come first).

Also, having to bribe ppl for 'Likes,' I personally wouldn't do that, either.

Again not bribing people. we were able to get 100 likes without any "bribes". Simply trying to give back to the ones who helped us get there and any new people who may not be aware of the community. Don't care for good advice, don't join. We would never ask anyone to question there principals and doing so would go against every point of the community. I wish you all the best in your STO experiences.

To anyone else who is interested in becoming part of a positive community working together to better ourselves in the Star Trek Online Game please join. You will also have the chance to win 10,000,000 ec along with other giveaways that will be ran in the future!

Its all about giving back to the community!

Thank you all the people who have gone and shown support on the page! We look forward to continued positive discussions on game mechanics and builds!

Bribery is a bad flaw of Facebook's.

Edit: I don't use Facebook, so I have to ask: has anyone checked the EULA?
Edit: Still having trouble with the rules of Facebook, but I found another issue with bribes other than social unacceptability:https://www.linkedin.com/today/post/article/20140403172903-68901604-bribes-not-likes

Please ignore the trolls. My fleet has had similar giveaways -- sometimes up to 1 billion ec, in some cases -- and have met similar criticism from players that either 1) resent the idea of "giving back" to the community or 2) are mad they didn't get anything.

Congrats on your successful event! Hope to see more in the future.

Silly man! Why would anyone not liking Facebook be against 'giving back to the commuity'?! *boggle*

And feel free to chalk this off as my inexperience with Facebook, but why are the likes even needed?! Can't the OP just run an awesome site without them? Having said that, more power to the OP for his STO helping project: I just won't be joining Facebook for it, is all, as I trust Facebook as far as I can throw them.

I would love to run the site without needing likes. When you post though nobody will see it? so what good is it just posting advice to myself? It was an easy community building site that was available. I wish it didn't work on a like based system. I wish it was subscribers to the community but I didn't make the system I will just use it the way it was implemented. getting more people to like the page is just a way to help grow the size of the community so that more people can be available to help give good advice and others who may have questions would have a place to go. Facebook just happened to be the free community building system I used, and it just so happen to work on a like based system rather than a membership/subscriber system on youtube/twitch.

I can understand being against facebook. If you ever need anything feel free to reach out here or in game. I would be happy to help out since you are against facebook and I can't argue that value to you. Only you can make that decision for yourself but I assure you I am not just bribing for likes. There is an honest to goodness positive community out there and I just want people to be aware of it and to participate in it if they would like.

    A nice giveway.

    I don't use facebook.

    - Its basically a data-mining operation for commercial companies to target me and sell my info.
    - Facebook can also track you all across the web through facebook enabled web sites (there are many.)
    - They won't let me be anonymous.

It's going to be a very long time before I use facebook in any fashion other than professional consulting for others.

A nice idea. Always good to have nice friendly communities online. I myself seldom use facebook, but my mrs virtually lives on there so she will be entering for us and signing up. A good idea and I hope it goes well for you guys.
As for the naysayers, don't worry about them. Many communities enjoy giveaways and competitions to spice things up a little bit, we plana Christmas giveaway in our fleet, why? because its fun for people :)
