Ideas, Thoughts, and Wishes

I love Star Trek. I really enjoy Star Trek Online.
But, like most people, there are things i'd love to see change, be implemented, or whatever, in ST:O, so I thought i'd write a bit about it.
feedback and thoughts from the community would be nice. from admins or devs would be awesome.

1) better reasons to re-do episodes.
when i look at an episode, and know it'll take 30 minutes to an hour and a half to do again, just to get another of the "pick one" loots, i roll my eyes and look for something else to do. it'd be nice if there was something more to draw you back to replay previous episodes.
branching story based on choice, an ability to hurry through cut scenes (or walking across the hull of DS9!), better loot drops.... i donno.

2) the ability to refine more dilithium daily.
maybe raise the cap to 10,000. maybe add doff missions to do it. i donno. i understand why the limit is there, but it is so limiting i want to pull my hair out.

3) slightly more dilithium and crafting materials in drops.
some people don't mind farming. some of us, it drives us crazy. while "casually" playing will never and should never get the quantities of farming players, dil and resources (and ec) are hard to come by in quantities enough to mean anything if you don't farm hard for them

4) multiple item sales in the exchange
it'd be great to search for item stacks rather than just items. if i wanted to buy, say, tritanium, i'd love to see someone selling a stack of 200, and being able to just by 80, and not the whole thing. kind of like the dil>zen exchange, actually.

5) crafting in stacks
being able to say "craft 10 eps conduits" would make life so much easier than waiting 15 seconds and crafting another. you select the component, and how may you want, and the time and mats needed are multiplied by that many, and off they go! the in game engine could even process the requests one at a time, so if you say "craft 10" and you crit, you don't just get 30. maybe you crit once. so, you'd get 12: 9 normal and 1 crit result.
this would just be for components, not equipment

6) BOFF interactions
this i imagine would be hard to do well, but i have to say it anyways: a huge part of star trek is the interplay of the characters. your BOFFs SHOULD be your supporting characters, rather than just an NPC party for ground missions. Tovan was a huge step in the right direction for this.

7) story/dialog that recognizes race
my first character was a ferangi. funny how no one notices this, even when they talk about ferangi in various ways. minor dialog changes to address gender and races in some way, shape, or form would be a nice touch.
my reman character keeps being called romulan!

8) mini-episodes
little extras to bring some life to the game, without being full blown adventures. i imagine things like certain doff missions, if successful, leading to story quests. some diplomacy here, some intrigue there, some trade negotiations, begun by doff assignments, but finished in some way by the captain

9) Choices!
i am a huge fan of choices, and of those choices having SOME effect, however minor, to the story. i see the mini-episodes idea a good way to implement them. maybe you reneged on a trade deal? a later mini-episode, that might effect how you're viewed. maybe you managed to solve a very nasty hostage situation without bloodshed? some may think you a coward, others may praise your diplomacy

10) story skills
this could be a good sink for people who've maxed out their characters and have no where to spend their expertise. the skills could be ranked (simplest way, 1-10), and different skills may be more expensive for certain paths. medial would be cheap for science, normal for tactical, and expensive for engineering, for example. skill points would ultimately be capped so that you can't max everything. you might be able to be a 5 in all skills, an 8 in most while a 3 in the rest, or half 10s and half untrained, for example. race could add bonuses to certain skills. skills could either work on an auto-win basis (you need an 8 in diplomacy, but if you have it, you get your way) or an RNG basis (with an 8 in diplomacy, you have, say, an 80% chance). if RNG is used, allow for "critical" successes and fails. these skills would come into play in the mini-episodes, future episodes maybe, and in....

11) non-combat missions
Starfleet may be at war, but as everyone knows, its main purpose is to explore. non-combat missions, or combat optional missions, would tap into that. first contact, bizarre planets, rescues, spatial anomalies, holodeck time, BOFF missions (see BOFF interactions!), and more. missions where your skills, and your choices, make the story.

12) reputation system
for mini-episodes and non-combat/combat option missions, a reputation system could be useful. just because you have maxed your diplomacy skills, it doesn't mean anyone knows you're a diplomat worth listening too if you've never been on diplomatic missions. maybe you're known to favor one race over another? maybe you're seen as soft, or as too willing to go in guns blazing?

13) non-combat rewards
anything from equipment that gives some kind of bonus to your skills, to purely aesthetic gains.

these are just some things i wish to see someday
it'd be great if some where already in development, and i know full well that, with the current system, some are unlikely to happen at all.
like i said, i'd be very interested in what people think

The devs really need to state what's going on with lockbox ships! People are scared to death of opening anymore lockboxes or buying keys cause there's a rumor going around that lockbox ships won't upgrade to tier 6 or that one will have to pay to upgrade and may not be as good as regulat tier 6's.

JUST COME OUT AND SAY ALL LOCK BOX SHIPS WILL AUTO UPGRADE TO TIER 6 LIKE THE BUG SHIP ALREADY!!

i think any zen purchase, or otherwise earned "top tier" gear, earned say.... from 60 days before the announcement (so, June 1st, to be easy) up to the day of the patch should get auto-updated for free.
Anything top-tier older than that should be upgradable for a reasonable amount (10,000 dil or less, considering the trouble gone through to obtain).
But i also think that while current top-tier should get upgrades to stay competitive, the best new stuff should be better, even if just a little, to give players some new gear to aim for.

the reason why i think only since June should get the free upgrade is because longer than that and you've had top tier for quite a while by the time the expansion comes out, and not only are more likely to be fairly expected to be able to afford to pay for upgrades, but are also more likely to go right for the new stuff, just because it's new and their gear, while great, isn't the shiny new car it used to be.

One of your requests come true, you can craft multiple components at once.
What I want to see more of is less destroying ships only disabling them, like you do in night of the court where you can't alter the time line. I would love that as an option even changing when we blow up to being disabled thus being unable to attack, same Re spawn timer but not crazy that we blow up so many times. It wouldn't be far-fetched to repair from certain doom that routine in Star trek.

    1) Once the devs said, they will not add any dill rewards for episodes. During replay event they are added a lobi reward for replay.
    2) No , because the game-owner convinces people to buy a zens and then changed them for dilithium.
    3) Same as 2) but i have to say after i ran 10 missions today and received only two purple materials, i was a little dissaponted.
    4) There are options for this, you have to just look carefully
    5) Same as 4)
    6) No, beause most of our boffs are random/customizeable. And Tovan? Most people do not like him (although I am not among them )
    7) There are to many races in STO , so it is probably not feasible ( but see here some more or less successful attempts in foundry )
    8) What you describe was in the exploration , but it was cancelled
    9) Not in STO , which used very old engine, but again some solid attemps in foundry missions
    10) Wait for new skill tree in the D4R
    11) explore the foundry
    12) Yeah it would be nice that you had a reputation in the universe as diplomat , warrior , aggressor , spy or pirate and depending on how you behaved so far , but this is not Eve , so this is little (0.1%) real, and as most people here should aggressor title

Star Trek online : Space, the final grind. These are the log-ins of your starship. Its 4-year mission: to explore the old worlds, to seek out still the same life and civilizations and kill them, to boldly destroy where every man been before.
