the reason i ask this question is i am hearing more about neverwinter now then sto i hear they are spending more time creating stuff for neverwinter then they are on sto and with it going to x-box neverwinter may be there main priority now is this true is sto playing second fiddle to never winter
last i heard STO was their number 1 performing game in america.
i would not say nw recent updates have been that big. you can play the content through quite quickly, they just tend to randomize it and gate it off through grinding unlocks. we have our second expansion due in october. we are getting actually trek talent voice overs on a fairly regular basis, so it's hardly like sto is being ignored at all or playing second fiddle.
as for nw going to x-box, that game looks like it was designed with a console in mind with how the fighting works. i think that was just inevitable. im not sure how easy it would be to convert sto but that might be the next thing they do if nw conversion works well.
Yes. They have a history of dumping their older games and moving onto the next project after 1-2 years. That's why CO is on life support. They even admitted to moving STO devs over to Neverwinter. The same way CO devs moved over to STO. See Neverwinter get less support when their next game comes out and STO will get even lower on their priorities. In fact they are already building their next MMO right now.
That's why their old logo was a FACTORY. Because all they do is quickly churn out one MMO after the other in a production line.
i get that but do cryptic favour neverwinter over sto
at the moment STO and NW are equally favored, but if it came down to it and they had to choose one or the other, Cryptic would choose STO every time, if for nothing but the IP.
btw where did they say NW was headed to the Xbox? I'm curious as to what that's gonna be like.
When you have several games out under one banner. Its hard to really share the amount of time to put into it. And when your making new games. Just now they came out with the Swordsman, and with STO having a huge update in the next few months.
Same thing happened to GM. Too many brands under 1 roof. Which is why many of the older brands was dropped.
USS Casinghead NCC 92047 launched 2350
Fleet Admiral Stowe - Dominion War Vet.
each game studio has its flagship product it mainly focuses on and then the rest, considering how co went down the pan since f2p or ultimately just more ignored then some others out there in the superhero world, its not likely to get as much attention neverwinter is recently new and its completely designed around the grind and lockboxes and such, but that hasnt made the noted impact that the team on that end were hoping for, but if its moderately successful enough it may see some updates. sto however is the one and for now its one of the only trek games in existance that is still running on the big stage and officially, that combined with what appears to be a rather large wallet to work from to get such noted actors on the game for their voice overs and large content updates. this looks like the main product for the entire group.
T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW. Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

what do you guys think
I think you do not play neverwinter?
I went back to my characters last month for a bit and... my gear, untouched through 2 updates, is still on par with the best in the game, and I bought it out of the auction house almost a year ago! The new content was just a rep grind exactly like STO rep grinds.
NW lacks content, far worse off than sto in that regard. Once you do your daily rep grind, there is absolutely nothing at all to DO in the game except grind for artifact xp. It is a fun ride up to max level but once you hit that 15 min a day and you are done until the next day. You could group up to do a "stf" (dungeon crawl) but the loot is of poor quality and the boss fights are all the same (imagine the planet killer in the undine assault, except imagine it summoned a wave of trash every 30 seconds but that you could one shot the trash with "tractor repulsors"). They have slowly fixed a little of the exploiting but I kid you not the primary strategy of most of the heroes in that game is to toss the bad guys off the nearest cliff -- its just easier and faster than fighting them.

Swordsman is not being developed by Cryptic. That's PWE's own baby.

The Xbox market has relatively little MMO competition.
DC Universe Online pays on the PC and PS[3,4]. Approximately 3/4 of their players are on the playstation side. If Neverwinter's profitable with just a PC player base, then they have the potential to double their profite by adding XBox support.
Neverwinter is going to China on a console. With that, it has a potential to make way more money then STO will ever have. That is what makes Neverwinter more important to Cryptic and PW.
"Star Trek Online is powered by the most abundant resource in the galaxy . . . Gullibility"
NW on a console would be a massive improvement. The biggest thing keeping me from playing it now is the annoying control layout, and the fact that I can't change it; put it on a twin-joystick controller, though, and it'll start to make some kind of sense.
As for STO being "disregarded", all I can do is sit over in CO and give a sad little smile...
I for one welcome our New Roman overlords, and would like to point out that I'd be much more useful as an informant against rebels than working in the bronze mines.

That's how i heard about it this morning, as i get the weekly email shot.
Ah, last I heard Neverwinter was. It's doing great. It makes them money. It's performance this past year has been sterling.
Neverwinter isn't an MMO, so it'll be fine.

Steam isn't an indicator of success or failure. It's like saying that if it isn't selling at Wallmart, your product is bad.
