pennylongpennylong Member Posts: 199 Arc User
I'm having probs getting hold of any. I found the academy assignment but is there any other way to find them?

I couldn't see a category on the exchange to find them under.

hte doffs for R&D are "normal" boffs...there are no special ones. The academy assignment gives crafting materials for 1k dilithium

    Thanks

I was looking at the requirements for the tr-116b and it says you need R&D: Ground Equipment but I can't find one anywhere?

    Which one is that?

you dont, that doff was for those only for crafting aegis. you can still craft Aegis without it. just wont be as easy.

Thought i drop this little info page here.

seems that there is achance to get a R&D doff from the academy recruitment mission...not just materials. Thought it was only for "special" materials. Seems Starfleet thinks that their "human (and alien) resources" are actual resources.

Just a call out to everyone to help update this page:

I've added in the new materials and components, just need icons and some of the other text updated.

Ok so I have tried all the security doffs, including assault but none of these work. I'm guessing you need a special doff or something?

Oh I also opened about 35 doffs packs but no R&D doffs there either. :(

It's taken me two weeks to get the money to get my beam school to level 15. Then I find out that I can not craft it because you need a special doff. I have not been lucky to get a doff off that mission on 3 characters or from packs from the zen store. That mission takes 48 hours to run and I think another 48 hours to reset. I am going to say something that I hope gets you Trekkies upset and motivated. How is it that SWOTOR has better community guides when new content launches and here we are two weeks after launch and we are piecing together tidbits. How did the guys that had a ship full of dil get those doffs they needed to craft those level 15 items if we're having trouble getting them.

Not to sound like a broken record, but there are NOT any pure R&D doffs. ALL doffs are good at R&D also. For instance, a Warp Core Engineer is going to be good at building warp cores and if they are higher quality, you will get an R&D skill bonus for using them to build warp cores. There are some special DOFFs that give you a specific bonus when attempting a specific item, but they are not required. (I think) Any existing DOFFs will work just fine for R&D.

This sounds like perhaps a special DOFF IS required? Again, not sure, it's going to be months before my R&D gets that high, I am not spending a single purple crystal unless I have to.

The simple fact is that all the information you seek should have been provided by the developers, NOT the community. This entire 9.5 update seems rushed and not ready for prime time, don't blame the fans.

They're rare-to-uncommon from the Request R&D assistance recruitment mission.

There doesn't really seem to be a rhyme or reason between their crafting and ship specializations; I've gotten a white security officer that can build the special Engineering RCS consoles and I've also gotten the blue legacy Aegis Ferengi, Gumerre, from it.

As far as I can tell, there's no real good way to search for them on the exchange either - they blend right in with the normal doffs.

The DOFFS from the new Xindi lockbox have R&D School traits, find their names here and search the exchange for them.

edit: ignore that. Guess there's another type needed for the high level crafting for each school, like the Aegis DOFF.

You can get common R&D Doffs (required for level 15 special items) from the the Request R&D assistance recruitment doff assignment you get from your factions Personnel officer. The Xindi Dropboxes are supposed to have Very Rare R&D Doffs drop on occasion.

You can search in exchange for the doffs BY NAME. No other way works.

List of all R&D doff names are here:

The beam one is pretty much the only expensive one now. Just keep searching the exchange by name. Someone will post it for 20,000. In the early days of this I know I dumped at least 10 of these to fleet projects.

p.s. it's much cheaper just to buy the beam than to make it.

If you are buying the materials needed to make the beam, you are correct. If you grind for the materials to make the beam, it is cheaper to make the beam. It all depends on how much time you want to put in.
