BOFFs - training

Currently I am trying - and failing - to figure how how to train my bridge officers.

I have a rommy engineer. I want to train her tactical crew with some tier 4 skills (Spread: Beta III, for example). Due to an in-game bug she cannot use any of her candidate pool to train her existing crew.

So... I have a fed tactical char. He can train the desired tactical skills. Unfortunately, you cannot take 'comissioned' crew and put them in the mailbox for an alt to train. As well, you cannot train candidate crew until they have been commissioned. Once commissioned they're bound to that character.

Because of the rommy training bug the bound crew (Jem'hadar and Tovan) cannot be traded - they can *only* be trained using candidates, but my rommy does not get the 'train up' option from any candidates.

Can anyone tell me how I can get my Rommy's bridge crew trained with tier 4 skills I want them to have?

If you're trying to train a bound BOFF in a skill that can only be acquired through Captain's Training (i.e. Dispersal Pattern Beta III), it cannot be done. You'll need to have another unbound BOFF trained in the desired skill, or learn to live with Dispersal Pattern Beta II.

    I don't even have that.

Since my rommy can't train her crew using candidates - she can only offer engineering skills. I'm just stuck until they fix the bug.

If you want to train a tac boff in a tac skill and your an engineer captain, give a tac boff to someone in your fleet who is a tac captain and has the skills you want on that boff. You can do it through a person to person physical trade. They can train it for you and return it to you all trained up.

As stated, even bound Boffs can be trained by other captains, it just has to be handled by trading face to face. Some caveats to this:

    1. You will have to unequip all gear the Boff has

    2. If it's a valuable Boff, make sure you trust that person as there's nothing stopping them running off with it

    3. The receiving person will need to have an empty spot in their Boff roster. Most people don't have any more slots than they're using, so finding someone to do this can be tough.

I have a fed rom tac. I would be happy to train your guy(s) ... I will be on tonight (off and on 5pm-12 est).

The rest of my roms are kdf though (the fed was a mistake, honestly), so I cant help with science. I don't promise to have all the skills you need but I have most of them.

Ok, Dispersal Pattern Beta II (I assume DPB is what you're looking for since it's what you mentioned) can be acquired at the Bridge Officer Trainer, found at ESD, First City, New Romulus Command, and the Romulan Flotilla. You need do nothing more than go there and pay the required EC to train that ability on the desired BOFF, but it is a T3 Skill.

Dispersal Pattern Beta III (T4) can ONLY be obtained through Captain Training, therefore the desired BOFF would have to be traded (sans equipment) to another Player's Tactical Captain to train.

Since Tovan Khev is bound and cannot be traded, he cannot be trained in this ability. I do not know for sure whether the Jem'Hadar BOFF is bound. If not though, you could only trade him to another Player who doesn't already have a Jem'Hadar BOFF in their crew. Then that Player's Tactical Captain could train the ability if they have the ability to do so. If you discover that the Jem"Hadar BOFF also cannot be traded for training, then your next best solution to gain DPB3 is to trade another Tactical BOFF to be trained in that ability.

I'm not sure what you mean by a Romulan Training bug, though. I'm not aware of it. But I do have a FED TAC ROM Captain that can train DPB3. If you like, I would be willing to do so. Just contact me in-game: @BaddMoonRizin

Well there is no bug really. Tovan and the Jem'hadar, can not be traded for training, as they are bound on pickup. the Jemmy can be trained by the officer trainer. Tovan, Not sure.

As for other boffs romulans can only be trained by Romulans. there was a few people complaining about that a few months ago. So you would have to have a romulan boff candidate, to train your Romulan boff. A Kdf or fed Boff wont train a romulan.

For some reason this is not a bug but working as intended......

Fed and KDF boffs can train a Romulan. The key is that you also need a Fed or a KDF in your commissioned roster.

So, if you want to train your Romulan Engineer Boff with an Andorian Engineer Boff you need to have some other second Fed Engineer Boff in your crew.

Only a very small number of special boffs like Tovan are actually bound to character and cannot be traded. All other boffs can be traded in person to another player for them to train captain-only abilities before trading them back to you.

    Welcome to Star Trek Online!

OK, first things first, Cadet: You gotta dock at Earth Spacedock (ESD). Once you beam in, you need to head to Quinn's office, which will be to your left off the transporter pad. After you talk to him, he'll send you to Lt Laurel to pick up a new ship. That should complete the promotion mission.
