Season #10 - The Expanse

flash525flash525 Member Posts: 5,441 Arc User
There's nothing official about this post; let me make that quite clear straight away. This is just an idea that I was thinking up when at work today (my job consists of some very dull stuff, so my mind often wonders, and on this occasion, it wondered off into Star Trek Online).

Anyway, my thought here is to have a season that focuses on the Xindi and where they're at now. Doesn't have to be called the expanse (I just chose that title so people can relate). I'm thinking a new adventure zone (likely planet) with a new reputation system (Xindi) and an extended story arc.

It's highly unlikely we're ever going to see the Xindi as a playable faction, and they're not likely to become members of the Federation (or Klingon Defense Force) anytime soon, however I'm sure they'd have some sort of connection or communication with what's going on here.

Reputation Rewards could be an Xindi Bridge Officer (likely restricted to the Arboreal, Primate or Reptilian); Insectoid a maybe (depends on joints and models), Aquatic about as likely as an Undine or Tholian Bridge Officer, even less likely in fact.

We could hypothetically have five different lock boxes per the season too, each with a unique Xindi sub-species ship in it (and then another one in the Lobi Store?) Sure, Aquatic ships would normally cause a problem, but not only do we have EV suits, we could also just retrofit the bridge and beam out the water? If we're able to fly an Undine ship (S9) then an Aquatic vessel shouldn't be out of the question.

But yeah, just brainstorming here. Not expecting this at the click of my finger, just something I thought would be nice, and potentially a little different. To my knowledge, STO hasn't touched much on the Enterprise-era (or the Xindi), nor has the expanse been mentioned. Could easily be tied in to the Iconian story (them other aliens (names escape me) could be more puppets of the Iconians).

Thoughts?

After being puppets of the Sphere Builders, would the Xindi be so easily coerced again? I doubt it, unless they were extremely desperate.

Speaking of Sphere Builders, and I'll probably get lynched for this, but I'd like to see them tied into the game as well. IIRC, awhile back some posters came up with interesting suggestions for a Battle of Procyon V mission about ships being pulled through time, explaining why such older vessels were there (even though in the show they were just recycled 3D models for budget reasons).

However, since Cryptic's focus seems to be on Voyager and Delta Quadrant stuff for this year, I don't think we'll see any Xindi-related content for a while.

I'm not saying the Xindi would get sucked into the same problem again, I'm just saying that Cryptic hasn't mentioned the events of Enterprise and the Expanse. The Sphere Builders wouldn't need to come in on an Xindi-arc. The Xindi could suffer at the hands of the Borg, or the Undine and request our assistance.

Whoever made that post deserves a cookie.

Furthermore, all we know (from the ENT episode) is that there was a battle. Daniels never specifically stated "you see those ships there Archer, they're actually from this timeline". ;) For all we know, they could have been pulled through time to assist in the fight. Who truly knows? All we know about that event is that there was a battle. We don't know if it was Temporal or Linear. :)

    Aye, I wasn't intending for S9 anyway. :)

Hmm. Did you say Sphere builders? Who is to say they are not the ones that built the two Dyson spheres?

I've had this thought frequently as well. I'd actually like a mission where Daniels comes to us from the future so that we can go and save Archer's Enterprise.

Building a Dyson Sphere is a grand feat of engineering. Maybe the Sphere Builders acquired this knowledge from the Solanae, or vice versa. CONNECTIONS MUST BE MADE! :D

I'm kind of reluctant to even entertain the thought of season 3 ENT stuff in the main story of STO. While I did like the concept of the Xindi as a species and there were a couple of decent episodes, most days I like to pretend season 3 never happened. IMO, the Expanse and the Spheres and their builders was one of Trek's worst plot points/directions.

My distaste for ENT's third season aside, an expansion on the Xindi would be cool idea. Despite them being the main antagonist for the whole season, they really could have been fleshed out more.

There are a few Duty Officer assignments and the Voth Battlezone consoles that state that the Iconians are the Dyson Sphere Architects for at least the Solanae Dyson Sphere. The Schism aliens are the Dyson Sphere Builders. As far as Season 10 focusing on the Expanse, all signs point to the Delta Quadrant being the focus for the next few seasons.

according to the canon storyline, the sphere builder battle doesnt begin for another century yet, so i dont see this one taking off and im not really that interested in the xindi anyways. there is a better foundation for the dominion and gamma quadrant which looks a lot more likely.

    Now this idea i like.

Could even be a 14 day grind I'd enjoy.

Time travelling to the Battle of Procyon V.

    Awesome.

And we'd get to see the Enterprise-J

Xindi would be great for storylines and lockbox stuff. They have enough ships, backstory, and technology to be made into a whole faction, but are almost certainly not popular enough for that. So I would totally support giving out Xindi-themed stuff in content or lockboxes.

I know I'd look forward to a Xindi Bio-rifle and sticky stinger grenades.

I seem to recall a Path to 2409 that mentioned the discovery of a species very similar to the extinct Xindi avians. Perhaps this could be explored? They never explained why the Avians couldn't escape Xindus, but yet they had ancient outposts on other planets where the Council later met.

Maybe the origins of the Xindi species are complex and linked to long-dead alien races. Perhaps the Sphere-builders' interest in them had to do with more than their vulnerability to be duped into attacking Earth. There's plenty I'd love to see in future STO seasons.

maybe something with the xindi but not the expanse since if I remember correctly the expance is no more. when the spheres were disabled it was reverting to normal space again.

the entire point of the spheres was to alter space to allow the others to live there.

The problem is that the Delphic Expanse does not really exist any more. It was called the Expanse due to the distortions in that area, but since the events of Enterprise dealt with the spatial anomalies it is now just regular space - and regular space that is only 50 LYS away. In Trek terms 50 LYS is nothing. Heck, Bajor is only 52 LYS from Earth.

By TNG times the area of the Expanse would have been well explored and many of the species we saw in those Enterprise episodes would probably have joined the Federation by the TNG era - and are part of what makes up the thousand planets and the 150+ species that make up the Federation and its 8,000 LYS of area.

I think a few years ago a made a post about the Primates and Arboreals joining the Federation, the Insectoids and Reptilians joining the KDF, and the Aquatics staying neutral in reference to new playable and Boff species. I would rather see them added that way as an Expansion Pack - along with a bunch of new Mission Content - then to just see a bunch of new ships added to the game.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I'm pretty sure this games time is almost to the point where the Xindi are supposed to be serving on Federation ships no? Just open them up like a Defera style mini sector if you don't wanna bring them fully into the Federation.

I think that the xindi were introduced to expand the map with the expanse and mabye Betazoid and Ferenginar and other homeworlds and if not then i hope to see exciting stuff.

I would like to see the sphere builders again, and if they do them i think they would have to throw the xindi in there, but it all depends if it could be tied into the current iconian situation. if not they will probably leave it until after the iconian problem is finally resolved.
