I don't think the R&D rifles changed in appearance compared to the original. It's a white high tier phaser rifle with orange holograms instead of blue.
That really disappoints; speaking only of my personal preference, I have always thought that the federation 'standard' phasers all start to look clunky and obnoxious after the mark 1 variants. I would love to have a Mk12 phaser rifle that looks like the mark 1 that you get in the tutorial. No big glowy holograms, no overly large plastic-y frame. Just something that resembles the phasers we see in the shows and movies. Same goes for the pistols.
Was hoping the TR116B would have been sleeker and more detailed.
Ugh. So they kept the holograms? I guess I'll be giving the 'ground weapons' part of R&D a pass from now on then.
I was hoping it would look more like the version from DS9, I purposefully avoid all the clunky hologram-covered weapons in this game. So disappointing.
So its still the Phaser Rifle model? .c. well thats nearly a deal breaker. How hard is it to model the actual gun considering how many new ground weapons they popped out recently. Really a lowblow considering how many people want this gun.
Considering how epicly lack luster their performance is, that is way over priced.
The only reason they are even that high is because relativity few people are able to actually craft them yet.
It's not myfault ifyoufeel trolledbymyDisco ball...Sorry'boutit.

Yea, I have to agree. One of the reasons I invested in fleet rifles: much sleeker (I was using the MACO rifle but grew tired of cliched sci-fi movie chunkiness).
How the Devs see Star Trek, apparently:
Star Trek: The Original Grind
Star Trek: The Next Grind
Star Trek: Deep Space Grind
Star Trek: Voyage to the Grind
Video also shows you some visuals of the rifle and the sounds.
So, in the amount of time it takes to reach level 15, collect materials and craft on rifle, you could pretty much equip your entire crew with an entire MACO set each (a set that seems to have a much more useful battle rifle).

So not only is it the same old hideous hologram covered clunky mess as the old gun, but it's inferior to a MACO rifle? A weapon that most players by this point already have?
I don't see myself advancing any further in the ground weapons crafting branch. The ugly visual reuse would be enough, but this just seals the deal.

I think the Sierra era they created was the (Klingon human disease) version for the Federation. They wore baggy pants (atleast they where pulled up!) big leather boots and strange shirts. Only the starting weapons resembled trek though.
"They should release TR-116 rifle to us. It shouldn't stay a pre-order exclusive and it should be able to be used at max level!"
"Okay, here you go. One TR-116 rifle, adjusted for balance, and given the Mk XII treatment."
"Not good enough!"
Clearly the Iconians nerfed the propellant
I may have missed something in that video I did (and if I did then I'd love to know what) but 'not good enough' pretty much sums up the 116's performance, especially against shielded targets. Something's off there and it's rendering the rifle significantly inferior to weapons of similar grade.
(NB: the MACO rifle was used for comparison in that video as being essentially sniper v sniper).

Yeah, most of this doesn't much confront me, but I hope the weapon's at least viable by the time I grind up to it. Else it'll just sit sadly on my mantelpiece.

I feel the same way. I was really looking forward to getting it. But seeing how it performs at the moment I'm not that excited anmore. In fact the only high end crafting item that still interest me are the Particle Generator Science consoles.
i dont know what i saw yesterday in-game. It was a Tr-116 and i assume it was the old one (does someone really already have the TR-116B? Saw the Arc Beams from R&D on the Exchange How can you reach Level 15 so fast?) But it looked weak compared to my Elite Fleet Sniper Rifle. And also not very nice Design. Too many Holograms and all that

Don't count on it... Why do more work than you have to... Right?

What's worse is that not only is the MACO rifle better its considerably easier to get as well and cheaper.

Phaser Rifle
Phaser Pistol ...its what I think of when i think of federation weapons...not a dust buster!

And its quite an accomplishment to make a weaker rifle then the Maco one, which has several handicaps since its a sniper.
