So, they added the required filter to manually select the doffs we want, but still its completely useless. Not even an option to "check all" or "uncheck all". The whole point is to select ONLY the specializations we want. Do we need to uncheck all of em everytime we want a single specialization to be chosen?? this is stupid. Its almost the same spot we had before. I unchecked all specializations, thinking, well, i hope the next time they will be unchecked, so i only need to check the specializations i want to appear.. but again, they are all checked again every time we need to manually select a doff.
So , it turns out that i spend less time searching manually for the doff i want like before this patch, than using the new filter system.. good job again, cryptic.

Sigh.
The Filter should of come with the DoF's "Specializations and Rarity" unchecked, so you could of picked what you needed. Guess we will have another patch for DoF's again.
Well I agree with what everyone said here. Why oh why do I need a Security doff an an astrometrics assignment? Bring back the old algorithm, as unbelievably inaccurate as it was, at least it showed me doffs from the actual class that I needed, and not by traits. Then there's the so called filter system. From bad to worse IMHO, like policestate76 said, unselecting all the doff classes every time what a pain in the left TRIBBLE. Write a "Remember my decision" piece of code and save us all from this frozen wasteland.
The Filter should of come with the DoF's "Specializations and Rarity" unchecked, so you could of picked what you needed. Guess we will have another patch for DoF's again.
They didn't do that? Despite THAT'S HOW IT USED TO WORK?!?!
Yep. Nice to see Traits back but Specialisation filtering is next to useless.
For those tasks that require a particular specialisation it even goes halfway to being helpful and puts them to the top of the filter list, great if it was click-to-include, rather than click-to-exclude. Nor does it reorder the corresponding list of doffs to match the filter order, so you're still left with having to unselect every single other trade or just ignore the filter entirely and manually scan as before
Other useful Doff mgmt features >>>previously present<<< and now removed:
-- Actual number of commodities short -> e.g. 12/20. Now only turns the matching full amount icon to red, so you replicate that amount and then end up holding spares as you had part of total already in your inventory or bank.
-- Success specialisation on top-level list view-> e.g. shows 2x sci required and yes it will slot any sci but you now don't see that the slots really want Astrometrics to have a good chance of success, until you open the full detail view, decide 'no don't have any of those left' and back out - again!
-- Removal of slotted Doffs from unassigned/available list -> Doffs still remain in place until the task is started, so unless you remember everyone's names/faces, you can still keep slotting away, before realising that you're re-selecting the same doff each time and merely moving them between different open positions within the assignment.
-- Full View of Required items -> Even with the super-sized UI for an individual assignment, a long list of required items doesn't fit in their available display frame/section. The horizontal scrollbars then needed have been increased in size, this patch, but are still a pretty small target and if you drag off then you just end up moving the whole window instead.
-- Persistent Filters -> As nascar1420 states in comment 12. Should you muddle through with the slow click-to-exclude filter, it gets reset anyway at the next doff slot, even on the same assignment and you have to re-enter all over again.
A new filter is coming. An image was leaked a few days ago.
If you are talking about the image that TTC showed on Twitter last Friday then your a little late... That image was for this morning's patch... IOW, the filter you speak of is already in game ;-)
The new filter sucks!! I need 2 security officers. I UNCHECK all the other officers select security guy #1 now I have to go back and UNCHECK everyone again!!!! to get security guy #2
Let me say this again..............the old DOFF UI was just fine and dandy the way it was NO CHANGES WERE NEEDED!!!
I really regret paying for a lifetime subscription
Someone please let me know when the DOFF system is usable again. Im not coming back on until then
Look for a tab on top called roster and then filter:status and recent should be there.
Thanks but that's not what i was looking for. I should've been more clear, so that's on me.
When i open 50 doff packs and want to grind down the new additions to my duty officers, i can't filter for those within the "assign" tab. At the moment i always have to check the Roster, memorize the name, switch to the assignments tab, scroll through an insane long list of officers and pick the one i memorized. After i'm done, i repeat that process between 50 and 1xx times. It is quite arduous.
Sadly, it's making even worse choices than before.
The new algorithm is so keen on Critical Successes that it sacrifices regular success and adds in more failure chances. 2% more critical success chance is NOT worth -10% regular success and +10% failure/crit failure! Also, the filter is just useless with all the checkboxes.
With the new algorithm, I'm actually spending even more time replacing appropriate DOffs. Well played, Cryptic, user time spent in-game increased.
On a semi-related note, is there a BACK option on crafting? I pick an item, see that I have components missing, click to go to that recipe to craft that item...and can't go back one step. Am I missing something or do you have to re-select the item you're crafting?
Assuming these observations are accurate... I am flabbergasted that these 'fixes' are what have been patched. We have gone from a working UI (pre-9.5) to a nearly unworkable UI, and from a focus on success to the detriment of critical, to an extreme focus on crit, and no accounting of success at all.
How hard is this to ideate? How can someone who plays the game not see that this is aggressively frustrating the players?
Please reconsider ARC. Please make it optional, at the least. PLEASE.
It seems the vast majority of your most active players (forum regulars) hate the idea... and while that's a small subset of the playerbase, I think it's an important constituency.
THE PLAYERS DO NOT WANT THIS.
Assuming these observations are accurate... I am flabbergasted that How can someone who plays the game not see that this is aggressively frustrating the players?
Its like they gave the requirements set for the revamp to a combat gameplay-focussed dev and they spent 5 mins before going: "borrrring! I'll just let an algorithm pre-populate everything as no-one wants to play this dumb feature."
Clearly if you try and manage assignments manually then all these issues jump out in very quick order, so how did this pass any reasonable test plan in migrating the existing feature set?
Doffing isn't everyone's cup of tea, but if I had a spare 10-15mins I'd drop in even on busy days and refill my assignment lists (still levelling CXP on alts and anyway it's good for a little dil & R&D harvesting, when the Real World gets in the way of a proper play session) and Cryptic gets an addition [micro] uptick in the monthly playing figures that keep management, advertisers and partner organisations sweet. Barely done any since launch, too inaccurate/risky on auto, too slow to adjust using manual.
I still want to know why they inverted the filtering options that they USED to have in the doff assignments. I mean, the roster still filters the same way it's always done, why didn't they just port that over?
Clearly that was too intelligent a choice for these....... people.

The really dumb thing was bringing in this new UI in the first place imo. It was (as far as I know) not needed, yet it was done as a "Look here folks! We're doing things!".
Biggest complaint about the new filter is that it doesn't filter out DOFFs already used this seems basic. It also does not remember preferences either not so basic.
I am still asking why they had to break a system that already worked.
They didn't do that? Despite THAT'S HOW IT USED TO WORK?!?!
.....
I swear the devs don't how their own game works.
The difference is, before the new system, you could see everything on the screen, and you could see almost most of the specialization doffs candidates at the same time. The problem is the new stupid upractical UI, that breaks everything. The only thing the devs did is translate the old filter method to the new system, thats all. They didnt even bother to make things better, nah, who cares..
More things i noticed, it turns out that some requirements in the assignment are mixed all the time. Lucky me, almost all of those assignments are common for me and i know what doffs and resources i need, but be careful because sometimes it will show you an extra doff requirement or some resources, and that is NOT true (if you click in the assignment anyways, you will see that actually you dont need those things.. xD).
Of course the "old" problems of the new system remains, the system keeps slotting any purple doff of any specialization in a lot of assignments that requires an specific specialization, and the system doesnt even consider the failure or disaster probabilities. In assignments from marauding categories, this is a total pain. I need to manually slot research lab scienteis, assault squad officers, tractor beams officers, etc manually all the time. Not to mention, of course, we still have the already slotted doffs preent in the candidates list.. really amazing... .-. For god sake..
I am really scared about how many more things i will discover by tomorrow..
The selection UI is now identical to what we had before, I really don't see the issue here. A select all/none option would be appreciated, but this is way better than the unordered, unfilterable list we had before.

ITS WORST. As i said in my previous post, the filter is the same than before, but the problem is, in the old ui you could see everything you needed at the same time in the screen, including your doff candidates. Now, the new filter does nothing because it will take you far more time to uncheck all of em and check the ones you want than just searching through your candidate list (the way it was before..).
You can still just search through your candidates list? I don't see what the issue is, the selection UI is identical, it's just in its own window now. The traits and specialization you need/don't want are highlighted in green/red.
I had to use a Backup Computer to get into STO, but this new DOFF adjustment even made me hate DOFF system, when I use to love it!
The UI new is unfriendly and unintuitive.
The New Filter they just put in makes it pain to find the DOFFs you do want! And it lags down the computer to a crawl! And even more, the Filter has EVERYTHING Checked off, when it should be unchecked, so you could find the DOFFs for a paricular job (or is the Devs saying Critical matching matters more than sucesses?)
I'll give Cryptic an A for speed of 'fix'. (Ignoring the fact that they thought no filter was needed in the first place.) And a C+ for quality of the fix.

I give them B+ for speed (should have been in place before launch)
And F for quality (filter does not filter to what we want)
And the DOff system is the best part of the mid season!

Huh.. dont say that.. , i think the best part is the new crafting system... oh wait.. or not.. hmm. .let me think... bort uniforms maybe?? bah, i dont know. I am really not convinced with anything at all lol. Everything was just bad enough before season 9.5. Why cryptic needs to keep pushing and pushing...
Thread move. Please keep DOFF-related feedback in the DOFF and R&D forum. Thanks!

Surely this"fix" was not designed by someone who had doffed before. Did the old system give you the option of slotting a doff that is already slotted? I found this annoying.
That's the worst part of it: the functionality isn't even close to where it was. If they created something completely different (and MAYBE even better!), we'd adjust, get used to it and move on. What we got instead was much, much worse.
At this point, we're wasting more collective time on it, and if we don't, we get things like 28% failure rate on dilithium mining projects because the DOffs are assigned poorly. That's one of the most obvious examples...my Miners that I purchased specifically for mining aren't even being slotted automatically for mining.
The inefficiency of the new interface is staggering. It's not just that it seems like they've never used the DOffing system before, they're prioritizing all the wrong elements in the UI. We don't need the wasted space on padding the boxes, the bigger pictures, etc. Heck, it's even harder to see if I critted or not. I don't even care about the costs required to start the project...just let me know how much I have to fill it, Contraband anyone?

selected isn't helpful at all, but more of another layer of frustration that will keep me from logging in.
With these changes it really seems as though most of the ppl building the game haven't used
these systems extensively enough to know how a player actually interacts with them at a high level.
The "most recent" tab is still there, it's been moved to the left side of UI and still functions the
same. Unless you're opening tons of fleet doff boxes, then it just gets overwhelmed apparently.
So, suppose it's time to find a book or something else to play for a bit to keep me busy until things
are fixed/adjusted/repaired as i don't feel like fighting to get the UI to actually be a UI, instead of a
frustrating jumble of information.
