The Crafting System needs useful endgame stuff to craft at low levels

A lot of players think that the Crafting Leveling process takes too long. And it takes a long time.

The biggest problem with that - it takes very, very long until you can actually craft gear you're interested in. Before that, you can only craft low tier items. There is not really a big market or need for low tier items.

So most people - alone for the reason to not waste crafting materials on useless items - will just end up doing the 20h daily. Now, with the "nerf" that you can't focus that daily on just one school, it seems it will take even longer to wait until you can craft somethnig you want or could feasibly sell.

So, my suggestion - give us something to craft that can be useful even at low tiers.
One possibility could be stack of consumables, maybe of large batteries and team batteries, and regenerator and repair components.
Maybe even something new.

Not everyone needs this type of consumables, but some have a use for it.

For example:

Craft Supply of Auxillary Batteries
  • Critical Failure: 1 Aux Battery
  • Failure: 5 Aux Batteries
  • Success: 10 Aux Batteries and 2 Large Aux Battery
  • Critical Success: 15 Aux Batteries, 2 Large Aux Batteries, and 1 Team Aux Battery.

Craft Suplly of Medical Regenerators
  • Critical Failure: 1 Minor Regenerator
  • Failure: 5 Minor Regenerators
  • Success: 10 Minor Regenerators and 2 Major Regenerators
  • Critical Success: 15 Minor Regenerators, 2 Major Regenerators, 1 Critical Regenerator

Have you ever been inside your ship??
you can craft consumable in engineering already.

Good ideas! I also wouldn't mind seeing the crafting system tied into Bridge Officer skills so that we can craft, say, a skill book that teaches Torpedo Spread 3.

Which really just augments the point that that should be a part of the current crafting system.

Agreed. More and better consumables! In SWTOR consumed buffs last for several minutes (maybe an hour?) but disappear when you die. I'd want to see that in STO.

    I would agree.

I would never consider crafting anything less than a Mk X for a max-level character, but at low crafting levels you're just throwing rare materials away on a common item you can probably find elsewhere.

Thus, most players will sensibly stick to crafting low-level junk to advance, assuming they bother with crafting at all.

Giving high-level characters an alternative like crafting consumables from common materials makes sense. Large hypos/shield/energy boosts aren't available from a replicator and it's inefficient to travel to a vendor or create them with a normal ship-interior DOFF assignment.

I hope the Devs will consider this idea and implement it as soon as it is feasible to do so.

There is an incentive to crafting super high quality low level items, new players will pay a fortune for them. Nothing like selling sets of Dual Antiproton Pistols Mk IV for 50K and piece when the materials are free from STFs and all it costs me is 15min to craft it.

I would say that the crafting system needs to be fixed, preferably make it more in tuned with GW2, actually allow us to create multiple items at once, or at least let us que up 20 pitols at once. The time to craft is identical to Evony and I'm confident everybody hates it. 5min for a Mk II item, 15min for a mk IV item, I presume it will take at least 20hrs to craft a mk XII item when folks achieve that rank in the next 6-8mo. And 20K dil to burn through a 20hr project, what were you all at cryptic thinking? "Let's create a crafting systems that requires players to spend thousands of dollars if they want to rapidly craft through it"?

How bout they let me craft some better quads and aux DHCs. Different mods, different energy types, whatever.

Maybe some better single cannons too. More of that [range] mod from the hirogen box.

I'd still love to craft MK 12 transphasic clusters and piercing tetryons

There's also rapid reload transphasics, that could be a craftable mod from projectiles school which I would love to have on say, quantums or photons.

Crafting better tractor beam mines would be cool.

One thing I wish is that the items with very short craft time of like 10-30 secs you can do multi copies with one shot. Say one with 10 sec time I can craft 10 of them if I have enough mats and it will take 100 secs. To make 5-10 mats right now you have to just sit there bored click, wait, change screen, click, wait, change screen.

I believe creating multiple items is actually on the agenda for the crafting system.

    I agree.

I'm sick of leveling up new characters. I'm not making a new toon until we get a new faction (preferably Cardassian).

Consequently those purple Mk II-VI AP arrays I'm making are mostly going straight into the trash.

Oddly, they sell surprisingly well on exchange.
