I would love to have played the old STFs, sad that I never had chance to :(

They were awesome and actually challenging! You could even talk to the Federation Supply Crates in Khitomer Accord. :D

I would honestly like to see a more difficult level above elite. I have no idea what to call it but Uber or something that says, I'm more challenging than easy, I mean, elite in STO.

Ideally, they'd nerf everything at the high end because the power creep is starting to make the basic mechanics meaningless. And I like the basic mechanics, I think it's pretty cool the way they implemented and abstracted things; in fact, they've simplified it a bit too much already, I preferred it was it was when the game launched.

But they'd be screwed no matter what they did. If they made a higher difficulty level with higher rewards, people would moan.

If they nerfed the power creep, people would moan.

Somebody is going to moan no matter what the devs do, the devs just have to navigate their way through all the moaning so they get the least moaning for their buck.

I suppose they could add a cosmetic higher difficulty level, i.e. harder to play, but with the same rewards as Elite - that would probably be attractive to many people. But I don't think they could add another difficulty level with commensurate rewards, that would probably break the game's ceiling.

I'm all for increasing challenge but not just increasing enemy hit points and damage output. That's pretty much all Elite is which is why people don't find it much of a challenge. Once you know what they're going to do, and they always do the exact same thing, Elite just adds time to the mission

I remember the original STFs, played infected on it's first day released. It was a challenge because it was new. Then once the tricks were learned it wasn't a challenge. No matter how "hard" something is once you've figured it out it will cease to be a challenge. Adding hit points and damage out put to a mission isn't going to make it any more fun after the 500th time.

if you find the game too easy maybe you should try something than your Uberbuild. how about trying it with white Mk ix weapons and no specialty consoles? stick with the consoles you get from the vendor.

That's not what they want. It's not a real challenge they seek, they want "look at me" content. They want content they can use for e-peen waving purposes.

This is how I feel as well. Frankly, anytime they've tried to change the difficulty, all they're really doing is breaking things without fixing them. Take IGE as an STF. Before 9.5, i could almost clear the final room by myself. I ran it yesterday, and was being one shot way too often by the spread shot. that was the only thing killing me, other than the one time i fell in the plasma. Base enemies, shouldn't really be able to kill people in two or three attacks.

Rather than making the game harder or more challenging, they've just made it cheat to win to deal with the min maxers and those with the insane dps. Making the elite mode "harder" as they've been doing, has really only made it a race to see who can kill who first, which doesn't make for fun or challenge.

    Players: "Make content harder"

Cryptic: "Ah I see ... more spam, HP and instajib torpedoes. Enjoy!"

Player: "Wtf. This is completely messed up. Lag/FPS/ complete spam fest. Please fix by nerfing spam and buffing AI ... okay?"

Cryptic: "AI ... I see. How about EptE on NPC?"

Player: "But NPCs are just running around in circles getting stuck ... please fix"

Cryptic: "Make up your mind people! This is crazy. Okay let's just revert the code to original"

Player: "*explitives* ... why don't you listen... smarter AI ... more mechanics ... more challenge not spam and million HP NPC ..."

Al Rivera: "Forum posters are just whiners ranting BS. Everything is working as intended. And Excelsior rulez them all!"

You forgot to add that making AI is "hard".

Insanity difficulty sounds like a fun idea :D

Technicallly, you could raise your difficulty by using worse gear and select traits not relevant for the mission. Mk X white gear is cheap, no doffs or just white doffs are easy to get.

Then get some guys together who agree to do the same, and have fun.

Anyone going to start such a thing?

This type of solution always comes up in these kinds of conversations on MMO forums.

And it is a solution, of sorts, but it's not a very elegant one.

In the first place, people generally want to be challenged by content in which they can use the shiney stuff they've put time and effort into gathering and building. Colour matters, white is boring.

In the second place, the more elegant solution is always for the devs to make something that satisfies a customer need :)

For the OP .... if you want a nice challenge with the Borg and add in it fun and a Trek feeling, join the Star Trek Battles channel.
When I have time, I'd like to make a run together with them with my Engie's retrofit-phasers Galaxy.
I don't think ISE will be buffed anyway ... forget it ... why?
Not only for the DPS 0,1% elitists that someone mentioned ( they are quite few actually I guess ) but especially for the big majority of players who use ISE for grinding.
Remember the nerf rage regarding the Borg neural processors recent drop nerf?
By the way, you want a challenge? Fight the Voth.
It is sad that the rewards are ridiculous because I find the Voth fun and more challenging, especially Storming the Spire, because the Breach is a little hard with big whales like a Bortasqu' lol but, still .... and often times I went to solo the Dreadnought and try to survive to his super-GW :P
I confess I've not had time to dig the Voth Battlezone so I can't say anything about it.
As for the Undine, I don't find them challenging but just irritating with all of that spam and mucus flying around ... maybe like the EptE running-like-scared-chicken spheres that I don't remember lol actually more because they are a pain in the TRIBBLE of my pc too lol

I've been running PUG Elite STFs with white Mk Xs, only C-store ship consoles and no traits on a couple of fresh 50s. I'd say we get the optional at least 90% of the time with only basic coordination, and I haven't even had a single person grumble about how many colours I'm throwing out there in the two months I've been running Elite STFs with that setup. Maybe it might be somewhat difficult again with all 5 people running that, but PUGs generally aren't a team of min-maxers either. Only one I could call difficult would be Storming the Spire.

People will just run elite then anyway. With the amount of grind there is to do, people will simply take the fastest, most efficient route to what they want. When ranking up, most people just play on normal. Even at release, Elite basically just drew the content out with tougher enemies and having to return to repair when you've taken too much damage. Supposedly you had a better chance for higher quality loot, but it was never anything noticeable. Simply better to race to 50, spend your time finding loot that's worth more and you'll actually use for awhile.
