I have been playing a while, but I cant seem to do enough damage to the borg or any other mobs. My current set up Consists of Anti-proton dual beam banks Mk XI and and phasers both dual and arrays both Mk XII or XI with transphasic torpedo launchers fore and aft. I need suggestions for weapons that would help or any ideas/suggestions at all really. I really want to be able to destroy borg cubes in the Ker'rat system easily. Any suggestions?
Your weapons are good enough to do that - switch to only using one energy type though.
What you need to do now is describe every other relevant aspect of your Faction, ship, character, Boffs, Doffs, playstyle...
I have a good fleetmate in STO, flies a Scim. Unknown to me and him, another Fleetmate parsed us, him in his Scim, me in my level 44 tacs brand new to her T5 ship - only 2 weapons on it were not white Mk VIII, and it had no consoles beyond a white Mk IX Neutronium Alloy.
I was within 100 DPS of him over a match - it isn't about what you fly, but how you fly it.
ETA - FYI, she is also capable of soloing a Cube. Not with ease, but she can do it.
I havent even gotten to ships yet! I'm a bigger noob, first day of dedicated playing. and the control mapping keeps changing on me. first im in battle mode all the time. then i fix it and when i look around with my mouse, my character is stuck running straight. after it worked fine for about ten min.s. im still in the tutorial for god sakes. i am on a brand new system and had to work around some "just got my new laptop and life sucks for a few days to make sure things are all systems go" phase. and then i opened a game i knew my system would have no problem with and now some more headaches. wish i had a different mouse to try.
The fact that you are taking on cubes, which do not move, means dual beams are fine.
Against targets that do move you will need to have a high turn rate to keep them focussed or
switch to single beams with a wider arc.
If you are a cruiser then fit single beams front and back and broadside to bring all 7 or 8 to bare.
If you are a science vessel you may need good consoles to have great effect unless using exotic damage.
You do more damage if up close so fly right up to it, slam it in reverse, hit tac team & unload everything especially if you have 180 degree beams like the Borg ctting beam or are using turrets rear.
Don't use transphasics in pve and never use two or more energy types
1st bit - reason why you don't in PvE is NPCs put far less effort into maintaining shields, so it isn't necessary - in PvP Transphasics are a must unless you can use other Torp types for a massive spike before a Tactical Team re-distributes shield strength.
2nd bit - not mixing weapon energy types - you don't do this because it reduces the benefit of matching Tactical Consoles to your Energy type - Tac Console benefits stack linearly, whereas Sci and Eng consoles are static/experience diminishing returns respectively, and this means you stack the best Tac consoles you can, and put universals in other slots.
I run an RLC with my Tac Orion ... On that ship I'm running 6 x Tetryon BA's and one Standard Transohasic Torp up front and the Cluster Torp on the back (for the little parting gift) All of the gear is cheap Blue XI stuff of the exchange/Dil store, with at least one [Acc] modifier.
It's absolutely f*****g brilliant! The Tets' rip the shields form the enemy, and the Transphasic does the rest.
I've also run ESTF's in it, and damn near come close to the numbers of a JHDC flown by a very wealthy, experienced, veteran player, and beaten the numbers done by players in Scimi's and Defiants.
The same toon also runs the 'vette, except she runs Disruptor DHC's and Turrets with the RR Trans Torp up front, and THAT ship also wipes away enemies, the Disruptor lowering defense, and the Trans Torp cleaning up after ...
Again all of the gear, from Weapons to the Consoles, is Blue XI Exchange or Dil Store stuff, no Purple or Fleet gear ... And the three "free" pieces of the Solonae set, plus the Obelisk Warp Core.
If you don't like Trans torps, that your choice, but I personally find them utterly brilliant! You should probably preface statements like that with 'IMO" ...
Simple - in PvE, you don't need the shield penetration, as NPCs don't actually maintain their shields properly. So, a basic Photon or Quantum will be better. In PvP, where only an idiot doesn't look after their shields, a Transphasic will actually be a bit more useful.
Photons are better for DPS, Quantums for spike, Plasma has a nice Damage over Time effect, Chronitons are pretty much ignoreable as slowing movement is only useful in PvP and even then it isn't effective, and Tricobalts are only of any use if they actually hit without being intercepted. Which isn't likely on either count.
Also, the Tetryon ethos of shield killing isn't very good, as by the time you actually bring the shield down it will probably be dead or dying anyway, and your shield killing proc is wasted.
Nice idea, less effective in practice.
ETA - I'm not saying you should go off and replace all your Tetryon kit, it will still be effective in any STO PvE content. Just that it isn't optimal.
without knowing captain type, BOFFs, DOFFs, ship, skills, etc... nobody is able to help.
However, mixing beam arrays and DBB means that only ever half of your weapons will fire on your target...so you basically cut your potentia DPS in half with such a setup.
i suggest you do some research for a viable ship build on the internet first, since there are trillions of possible builds ot there that have been proven countless times to solo even elite STF cubes.
theres a lot of different ways to do more dmg, but a good place to start would be to first choose one energy weapon type (Anti-proton or phasers for example). Then buy as many tactical consoles as you can fit on your ship for what ever energy type you use. Tactical consoles for a specific energy type give you a bigger dmg bonus than consoles that give a bonus to specific weapon types (Beams or cannons).

Go to stoacademy.com and post your build.
