should I respec? meta question, not technical

So I have my main whose skills are terrible because I had no clue what I was doing when he was leveling up and I went gold after he hit level 50. The spec is really bad, like I maxed out gravitons when he's an engi flying an escort. I've had him for almost the whole time I've been playing STO and he's got the good gear and lots of stuff unlocked, plus he's my most fun toon because I like being able to boost power and tanking while flying an escort, so I'm not about to get rid of him.

Since I've already dumped a bunch of zen/dil/ec/time into him, a respec could go a long way. The thing is, respec tokens are super expensive when I still have more gear to get and stuff I want to unlock (plus I worry that I'll plunk down 500 zen and then notice that I messed up on something and want to do it again), and I was just thinking that with season 9.5 around the corner and an expansion pack coming up that now might be a bad time to do it. I've read that Cryptic gives free respec tokens when they mess with the skill tree, and it'd be silly to respec now and then find in a couple weeks that it was for nothing.

What do people think?

    If you have alot of stuff on him i would just respec him oO

    i had a similiar issue with 4 of my toons but i had no good stuff ont hem other than party poppers... wich i already sold .. then i deleted the toons and made new ones:D


    but in your case... just respec 500 zen is basicly nothing =)

    500 zen x 150 dilithium rate=75000 dilithium or 5 bucks...

    You get 500 zen per month for being gold.

    Post your build and let the forum see what you have to gain.

    If it really is bad, I would do the respec

    Don't you get a couple of respec tokens for subbing? I did with my LTS.

    You get one ever ten levels if you go gold at 50, you get nothing

    I got mine retroactive. I had 8 characters when I was F2P and all of them have multiple respec tokens. Has that changed? Was it a bug? I better be quiet now.......

    Honestly...i have never heard of it being retro active...makes me think of going fold for a month...

    Silver/lapsed Gold here. Never saved multiple promotion missions, but did save the level 50 one to do while subbed. Did get respec token for level 50, no retroactive tokens for previous levels.

    Thanks for the comments, everyone.

    here's my build (I skipped the ground stuff, and I still haven't figured out what shields to get since the cc ones aren't spectacular):

    If I respec I'd max out space, drop most of the sci skills (except the shield ones), drop the projectile tac skills, and dump the extra points into engineering skills.

    Yeah, I know it's funny that I'm fretting about this and it's only $5. But in the game 500 zen seems like so much more than $5.
