All balance issues aside, what is it that you like(d) about PVP in STO?
I like the "sports" aspect of it, although sadly this has suffered under all the additions of ever more powerful gear and ships. When I think about how I imagine a perfect STO PVP system, it would be a cross between Unreal Tournament and FIFA soccer with pre-S2 STO space combat mechanics. Capital ship combat, arena matches, coordinated teams, building a ship from a large, yet fixed set of items and abilities - these are the things that I like. The surrounding world is not that important after having seen it all. I wouldn't mind playing a game that was essentially only the PVP component of STO.
What are your favourite aspects of PVP in STO? Do you like that there are always new ships and items, or did you prefer the old days when it all remained fairly stable and one had to find new combinations of existing items/abilities to create the next big thing? How important is it that PVP is surrounded by a PVE world? Is the PVE world just a glorified chat room for the PVP system or do you feel that PVP would be pointless without the PVE around it? Do you like arena matches or do you prefer C&H or Kerrat? Is "scoring a goal" enough for you, or do you prefer objective-based PVP maps? Is hunting for gear/rep an enjoyable part of (preparation for) PVP, or is it a chore that you'd prefer to skip?
I'd happily play a sandboxed pvp only version of sto. I do like the RPG elements of gear and character progression - but I'd prefer that to come from PvP, not PvE.
And no, the rest of the universe isn't very important to me. I've not used sector space in a year and once I've clicked through the dialogue options in this months new pve content I never touch it again unless I have a pvp goal/gear progression in mind.
Thinking of building your own game Macom? Let me know....
I think the sports aspect is appealing to me, too. I am not that excited about persistant PvP stuff in the form of territory control. I like the idea of well-trained teams duking it out at high skill levels and admiring their skill, as well as being part of a team.
That said... I am so fracking lazy that I can't really be bothered to do any of it myself anymore.
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
I like developing interesting builds and pitting them against other players' ships. Arena provides a controlled environment with a chance of some balance between the teams, more than Kerrat which is unbalanced by rule (15-0 doesnt tell you anything about yoru build). Other than that I dont really care much for PVP here. Games have to be PVP from the ground-up to be good at it, and STO is primarily a SP/coop PVE arcade game.
Personally i like seeing the cooldowns of enemies' abilities and spike/debuff them when they have nothing or few "exit-strategies", everything followed by insults via pm

Anyway, what i like of sto pvp is when you meet good players who don't QQ after a good match and play just for the fun, or when you have to face premades with a group of old friends set for a specific purpose. Fun times.
I have a chance at dying, then adapting to the build that killed me. Sadly most people just run away if they get lucky on me. Adaption is no joke. Just ask the borg.
The dress is gold and white. Over 70% people says so. When viewed from a certain screen angle it appears blue and black. The dress displayed on amazon is a blue and black dress, but it's not the same dress in the picture. If you're seeing blue & black you're slightly colored blind. A normal upright screen = white and gold.
PvP is the only thing left in STO that has challenge. Fighting another human being that can think beyond basic AI code and use the same amount of abilities you can creates much more excitement than the face-roll PvE we do just to get good gear.
That awesome moment when somebody asks where you get that scimitar holo emitter from. Used to love playing in premades but my fleet lacks the player base these days.
I like STO PVP because you never stop learning it, and everytime you get to combat a different build. When yours works as it should and others congratulate for a well played match... it's a pretty good feeling.

i like pvp because the pve becomes stale quickly... the ai does exactly the same things, in the same order, every single time. pvp evolves and is ever changing with new challenges at every turn.
i do like that there are new ships and new things to be had, but it has gotten a but overwhelming for me. just when i get the new gear\ship\reputation\ect. it's time to start grinding out the next.
i took a break for just a couple months and came back for a few hours the other day. i felt like i was years behind everybody lol
anyway that didn't do much to keep me back sadly.
Don't know why it says i'm an ARC user. i will never use that TRIBBLE Cryptic!
its the only part of the game that uses the engine and all the components within it to its maximum potential. in pve, 90% of what the engine can do is ignored. npcs have 1 or 2 station powers, a fore and aft beam and torp, with maybe a cannon thrown in too, things like resists, accuracy, defense score, power levels, self healing, active defense, intelligent offense, timing, position, none of these things are a part of any npc ship what so ever.
and when we say pve is to boring and easy, they double the number of them you face, crank up the multiplier on npc damage and hit points, and give an NPC SNB or target weapons, as if that's an improvement in any way. its not possible for me to enjoy pve when i have so much experience with the breath and scope of pvp complexities the game engine is capable of. in any story mission, i really wish i could just skip all the fighting and just experience the story line, because i hate dealing with npcs so much.

PvP is the best part of sto, such a shame of the buy in to be competitive though...
My PvE/PvP hybrid skill tree

It's the only thing keeping me playing PvP in this game.
