Torpedo on A2B BFAW build?

So I'm building up a fairly standad BFAW / A2B cruiser. I don't have access to fleet stuff but do have all the reputations done so was planning on equipping 6 romplasma, KCB & experimental rommie beam. However the 3 piece romulan singularity set bonus looks tempting. The downside is I would have to drop a beam array to equip the torps. Then to keep the torps from being dead weight I would end up having to "rock" the ship, moving it forward to fire the torps then move back to bring the rest of the beams into range. I suspect this will lower my overall combat effectiveness, that the bonus and torpedo damage won't balance the loss of one beam and the need to briefly move half my ship out of range to fire the torps but was curious if anyone has tried something like that and made it work?

As you said yourself, this will represent a net loss. You can try it on a DBB build, but those are only effective on a few ships, the ones with 5/X weapon slotting, as 4/4 ships simply lose too much for forfeiting so many of their weapon slots.

It could work if you removed the kinetic cutting beam since it doesn't FAW or is buffed in any way. Or are you using it as part of a 2 piece bonus?

The only torp+FAW thing I have found to be successful is a phaser/disruptor beamscort with the Bio Torp from 8472 rep. Since the 2pc set gives bonus damage, it's well worth using.

But for plasma, you're probably right that it would be a waste.

Just realized I posted in the wrong forums. Anyways thanks for the advice, I was pretty certain it wasn't worth it but that plasma hyperflux like it it would be so cool on a BFAW beamboat if it weren't for needing to install a torp.

I use the bio photon torp on my cruiser A2B build and it was the reason I finally broke down and got a combat parser. To check and see if it was more damage or not. After a week of checking my personal combat logs, turns out it was. Not by a whole lot, but it was more effective even in that build.

Probably is due to the set bonus. Just like why so many people equip the KCB, the set bonus is the big impact there.

So now I roll with a torpedo.

Not sure about the OP's question, unfortunately, because I wasn't using the romulan stuff at all.
