As the title says. I'm gearing up my Vesta for PvP, and I'm trying to decide on equipment. Is the borg 2 piece really better for survivability than say, a fleet elite fermion deflector and Counter Command engines / Nukara engines, or MACO 2 piece, etc.
If your playing escort cannon style, counter command deflector/engine does a good job.
Solonoae deflector/warp core/engine I hear is extremely awesome, definitely matches borg.
If your healing, borg is fine for the vesta
If your draining, I think it's the Jem hadar you want with Breen being up there.
For snooping as a sci the Jem hadar deflector can't be beat
As I said, I had survivability in mind. And on paper at least, an elite fleet fermion deflector provides good buffs to healing, not to mention the helpful Sci cool down mod, combined with a tank engine seems like it should be superior to the borg 2 piece.
Borg 2-piece is perfect for shield tank sci ships. Other combinations may seem better from a theorycrafting perspective but in practice that hull heal will save your TRIBBLE more times than you can count.
I prefer full Aegis for my Healer-Sci. Boots healing,
defence and has some sort of Elite-Shield resistance
proc. Also nice with elite deflector. 2 pcs Maco with
elite deflector is also an option. Just try some and
decide for yourself. We have many sci-players in our
fleet and everyone uses something else
I think it's still one of the best benefits to have. Especially in an SV. Hazard Emitters is a great power, but it's uptime sucks, and the set bonus will often fill these gaps.
I don't know if mancom's leaderboards has any recent statistics after the last borg hull heal proc nerf, but before that, it was the dominating hull heal.
I am brain-farting at the numbers listed below. They aren't dates, right? But what are they then? How recent is it then?
It seems the Borg Hull Proc went from 1/3rd to approximate 1/4th or 1/5th. Well, who would want to give up on 20 to 25 % of his current healing? (I believe the bonus hull healing Undine Trait was worth around 20 Million EC on the Exchange...)
(Oh, and that is the total hull healing, the self hull heal is still stronger.)
Star Trek Online Advancement: You start with lowbie gear, you end with Lobi gear.
Has the sol set hull proc been stealth buffed? While the nerfed Borg proc was on dribble it was still at least 30% better than sol so has anything changed? I wrote that set off a long time ago.
On a side note the new craft able aegis shield is gonna add alot more versatile on set use IMO.
Not to highjack, but how would the 2 piece borg set work on an escort, let's say the Tactical Escort Retrofit? My brother loves this ship, and wants to make it as durable as possible, so I told him to go 2piece borg and fleet shields. Should I have recommended a different deflector and engine combo?

I unfortunately don't know a good PvP answer, but in PvE, I think it helps notably. (Of course, not relevant for story missions, but if you want to take a Voth control point solo or fight a bunch of Elite Borg enemies or something like that.. )

Its a good choice for Defiant since that ship has so few healing abilities, especially if you have a tac captain that doesnt bring inherent healing abilities. But you need to double-down on engine performance in order to get the speed up, since its not the best performer.
The other option for Defiant is build for pure speed and try to avoid taking damage in the first place.

Elite fleet res shields are top dog.
