Suggestions to improve the doff UI and doffing overall

Suggestions for the Doff System

As someone who plays mainly for doffing atm I was horrified by what you have changed in the doff system, as such here are a few suggestions that might make it a lot better

1. Go back to the old style doff layout or something very similar, here you have access to all the data you need on deciding what doffs to send on assignment and what the items/restictions are that are needed. both your in progress and assignment log screens still use the old system and it works perfectly

This new system only gives you the critical success and disaster traits, it does not show success traits at all, and the suggested doffs all have critical traits, one assignment, Approve Jem Hadar Boarding Simulation
gives you 4 suggested toons, not one of them is security which is the success trait, thus giving someone who is doffing in a hurry a 8% chance of failure that would be neagted if just 1 security doff was reccomended

2. have more interaction with doffs, show us stats on each doff like how many assignments he/she has been on, this would help a lot of people out with deciding what doffs to get rid of if they aren't being used for any assignments

3. Bring Doffing to Gateway so we can continue to do doffing and maybe crafting when we cannot log into the game

4. give us a list of more than 3 suggested Doffs for any assignment, it can be very frustrating to have to then go from 3 doffs search entire roster to choose. you could easily fit 6-10 doffs in the suggested list, this would help save time.

5. Give us the option to favourite certain assignments and then show the cooldown time for them, this would make it a lot more useful for people who constantly search for certain missions in the hope that the cooldown timer is up.

6. Please add new doff assignments, especially planetside

7. Fabricate Prototype Console From Alien Artifact mission has now been made obsolete with the introduction of the new crafting system, once this doff assignment was creating the best console you could get, now these *prototype* consoles and sub par compared to fleet consoles, Field Generators were the last item you could make serious ec from, now you can get them from crafting for dilithium it makes them an everyday item.

My suggestion is to revamp this doff assignment, make the prototype consoles actual prototypes again, make them unique, give them random modifiers, this will increase the variety of consoles you can get and give more diversity to builds, it will also give people reason to use Strange Alien Artifacts again, especially as they drop from doff packs and lock boxes (i think) and can be got from several different assignments already.

8. On Roster please change so that you can access traits and species from the filter at the top without having to click the little down arrow to show them, these two features are usually overlooked or not known about for a lot of players and are much more useful than Status which I have yet to use once.

9. Install a couple of buttons to the assignment screen when selecting a mission so you can easily select each of the critical and success traits, as they show on the assignment. this would save a lot of time changing from the suggested doffs to full roster then selecting certain traits from a long list and then selecting specialisation from a long list.

10. Get rid of the current Select doff list, this is beyond useless. We need it to be broken down into area of expertise (tactical, security, engineering, medical etc) we need to be able to view traits, we do not need to know crafting skill what so ever. we need to be able to search like before or search by actual traits for that mission (see #9)

11. Request more button, please replace this with the old request more duty officers tab, this wasn't a problem at all and looked a lot more professional, Request More just looks lazy and doesn't describe what More you are requesting

12. Active Space & Ground lists, I think it would be an improvement to simplify this by just showing qualifying traits available instead of all doffs, that way you could click on the trait you wanted and it would give you a list of all doffs with that trait for you to choose from.

13. Cargo Bay, please could you look into changing this into a list view,(an actual list 3 or 4 columns, not like the tabs we have now that do nothing) with total amounts of items not just total amounts of each stack (eg don't list 2 lots of 250 x Provisions, just list Provisions x 500) also some tabs to narrow the list, like data samples, commodities, quality etc or maybe 3

14. Now that nebulas and clusters have been removed we need to have a larger list of assignments from these areas to accomodate all the possible assignments that were available be it through current sector or operations or even tactical


What do you guys think? anything I have missed or could be imoved upon? any other ideas?

    Agreed; the old UI is much more user friendly.

    I like this idea. I generally "weed" on quality alone (getting rid of greens and duplicate blues mostly), but this would be a vast improvement. They could call it 'crew evaluations'.

    I agree, especially for the "iconic" planets that we can visit like Bajor and Vulcan, those could do with some more unique assignments and/or chains. Perhaps tied in with crafting, like the ability to make Lirpas on Vulcan.

    This seems to be the case; these consoles have been surpassed by too many better options to be viable for wide-spread use anymore. Perhaps we could do with a new chain that also uses the GQ commodities as a replacement?

    Oh my... never even knew those were there, and I've spent SO much time on doffs; they might be more easily visible on widescreen monitors though, if they were simply placed behind the Quality button rather than on a second row.

    Indeed, this is one of the major flaws in the new design. I'd put this down as part of nr 1 above.

    A quick solution might be to move the viable cluster assignments for Personal and Department Heads to the Current Map list, and tie them all into the new sector space button for cluster assignments.

    One suggestion, though it would likely take a lot of work: I'd like a remote contact, like a contact at Starfleet Operations or something similar, that lets you browse all currently available assignments, or at least Current Map ones, with a note on where it's available. I mean, we can assume Starfleet Command has people who oversee its missions from a central point, can't we? It would be great if we could access that, and save on travel time.

    My only complaint with the current (as in live, on Holodeck) doff UI is that the section of the screen devoted to the doffs we're sending on assignment is very small. The Tribble UI does this better. However, everything else, I prefer Holodeck to Tribble. The Holodeck interface is more compact, shows more information at once, and requires fewer clicks. The Tribble UI seems to be a case of trying to simplify something (maybe to alleviate information overload?), but actually making it far more difficult to use in the process. I really hope it's a WIP.

    At one point I'd like to do some screenshot comparisons of the UIs, so I can point out what I mean better visually.

    I believe this is already the case. The list of cluster assignments seems to be showing far more unique to that cluster than 'current map' presently does on Holodeck.

    Leave the current UI (or something very much like it) in place for the game client, and reserve any new, simplified, mobile-friendly UI for the client that is intended to run on mobile devices (i.e., the Gateway). One size does not fit all, and I do not want to see the demands of mobile reduce the ease of use for people who are playing the game with desktop computers.

    My current issue with the DOFF only (won't get into the R&D as that's another thread) is how the missions are presented. I do my DOFF missions with goals or missions in mind. AKA say I'm focusing on Diplomatic XP. The current holodeck layout works efficient for this. The Tribble system does not.

    This is probably my biggest issue with the new layout. I don't have a problem with trying to make it mobile friendly though seems to be a bit crazy I get why.

    If you're going to have a complete assignment button have it workable... ;) Currently you have to view the details to complete the mission. I'm guessing this is just a general bug at the moment and wouldn't hit holodeck but needs to be said just in case.
