Doomsday Machine Won't Start

So, I'm doing a Captain's Log (so sue me, I do those) after completing "The Ultimate Klingon" as a Lieutenant Commander (level 16), and up comes the mission thing from Commander Burgess. Now, I've done this rodeo before, so I know he's a mission giver. I close it without a second thought, and finish the log.

Problem; now I can't talk to him at all. Period. At ESD, I can't talk. My mission tracker swears the mission doesn't even exist, because I can't hail OR skip. I can't get any mission pop ups, I don't get anything.

What do I do? I'm not about to start a new character!

    I'm trying right now to replicate it; I'm going to do "The Ultimate Klingon" again, and see if completing it a second time doesn't jar the game back into working.

    It worked. I recommend replaying the previous mission then trying to use your mission journal should this ever happen to you on any mission.
