I am at a tier 2 level and am wondering what is the best load out for my ship I have 2 slots on front and aft

currently I have disrupter and photon torpedo on front and back

I have read about the different loads and i don't do an PvP. I am wanting to go to quantum torpedo on front then use the other three slot of some sort of beam array...though i am not sure which type to put there... Any advice?

Get beam fire at will, turn broadside and pew pew, then head on and let loose with torp high yield or spread. Rinse and repeat.

Are you running through the storyline missions so far? Have they been difficult or relatively easy? If they have been good so far, I would not worry about it too much since you will be moving onto other ships.

3 beam arrays (1 front, 2 back) with the torpedo in front would work nicely. Keep hitting the target with broadsides until the shields are down and then bring the nose around for a torpedo to finish it off.

As for weapon type disruptors are fine. The idea is to get 3 of the best quality (rare - blue) you can, or at least uncommon - green. And then match the damage type with the tactical console entry. I always did phasers simply because that is the lore, but quality is the most important thing.

Well my question wasn't necessarily about my current level but more towards which types of weapons were the best and what sort of ratio to use such as equal beam and launchers or more beams... on my other character i went strictly for DPS and it was okay, but I'm wanting more of a tactical approach to this.

Once you get to your final ship, are you expecting to be a cruiser? Typically you see 7 beam arrays and the Kinetic Cutting Beam from the Omega Weapon set.

As for damage, Antiproton is very popular, but you will see advocates for disruptor and polaron as well. Phaser seems to be low on the list, but I like to use it.

If you are a low lvl player get a escort and equip dual heavy cannons. I don't think that you have the slots or the duty officers to use beams effectively :)

Im not sure exactly what last ship I am going to use...my other character has the Odyssey class ship back from the 2 year give away. Don't really remember what classification of ship that is. I will probably go to an escort next rank and try it out

    "Best" is subjective.

Look around the forum here for build ideas and you'll start seeing patterns in the chaos.

Keep a few things in mind: copying another person's build does not mean it's the best and may not match your playstyle. So you may be using the "best", but if you don't use it as designed, then it won't be the best.

OP, since you're new and still working towards 50, and if you want to stay in Cruiser the entire time, I suggest sticking with Beams and a Torp front and rear for the time being.

With more playtime you'll get a better feel of what you want. Read around the boards to get some ideas.

Another route to make your leveling a lot faster, smoother, is playing Escort until you get to Lv40. Fire power on Cruisers at low levels is kind of meh, and you may not have the skillpoints to really make them hit that much harder and maneuver that much better.

Once you get to Lv40, you can get a freebie Assault or Star Cruiser. Or whatever other freebie ships at Rear Adm. C-Store options start opening up at Lv40, but everything else at Lv50.

The easiest, safest arming of Cruisers are as Beamboats. Cruisers aren't fast moving, quick turning ships like Escorts. The Beam Arrays with their very generous arcs allow Cruisers to maintain good firing arcs on targets even with their slower turn rates. Some will do Dual Beams up front, but there are serious compromises in doing that with a Cruiser, esp. mobility and defense-wise.

You are probably tired of hearing it but it depends. There are a lot of different "cruisers" so which one means a lot for which loadout. I am driving a tal shier adapated for example, with turn rate boosts and dual heavy cannons. But that won't work on every ship (most "cruisers" don't have the tactical seats to use cannons effectively). Same for officer suggestions; my setup of 4 cannon skills, 2 tac teams and a gravity well won't fit in a tank type ship.

If you just mean a "typical" 8 gun, cmdr engineer ship with no tactical seats, say so. If you are thinking avenger, say that. Something else entirely? It matters a lot.

all that to say NOW is the time to experiment. Lower levels, *any* build can do "well enough" against your opponents, so try different stuff. You won't have access to the best items, of course, but poke it full of turn rate consoles and try to sport cannons. Poke it full of beam arrays and try the AOE approach. Put a torp on and an officer to support it, see what you think. Maybe try a mine launcher with a pattern. This is the time to learn the game by doing, in other words.... we can steer you a little bit but there is so much to be said for trying stuff out.

The last free one you'll have access to at lvl 40 is probably going to have you lean toward the assault cruiser for balance since the star cruiser is meant to be a tank and not a DPS

At first, try a beam boat loadout with the assault cruiser like this:
    TT1, BFAW2
    BFAW1
    ET1, EPTS2, EPTW3, DEM3
    EPTS1, EPTW2, DEM2
    HE1, HE2

You might need to find someone who can train EPTW3 to one of your bridge officers if you don't have enough points in weapon performance. Next, you'll need 2 conn officers that reduce tactical team cooldown to put in your active duty space roster. If you can get 2 energy weapons officers to reduce cooldown on beam special attacks, then use APB1 instead of BFAW2.
Get a warp core engineer to boost power levels on use of EPTx.
If you need a tad more shield healing, swap EPTW for EPTS and SPTS for EPTW.
If you have the room, add a systems engineer to reduce DEM power use.

I recently gave advice to a relative who just made it to lvl 50 recently. She had no idea what she was doing. She picked up the assault cruiser at lvl 40 and set it up like I have above. She hopped in a STF with my fleetmates and did extremely well (4.5k DPS in ISE) for having no rep and no idea what the tactics and strategy was. 8 AP MXI beam arrays, no obelisk warp core, so omni dir AP beam, and mk XI blue mag regulators. So there is a lot of room for more DPS.

Once you get to lvl 50, go (back) and run fluiid dynamics several times and collect those mk XI AP beam arrays. They aren't too expensive, usually less than 500,000 EC each, if you want to throw EC at it and buy them off the exchange.

If you happen to have the ability to get at least 1 purple and 2 blue technicians to reduce cooldowns on use of auxillary to emergency battery, then the loadout will be a tad more interresting:

    TT1, APB2
    BFAW
    ET1, A2B1, EPTW3, DEM3
    EPTS1, A2B1, RSP2
    HE1, ST2

3 technicians to reduce cooldowns, 1 warp core engineer to boost power levels, and a Systems engineer to reduce DEM power use.

You can farm technicians in a mission after a 7 part chain the B'Tran cluster, but you will probably get blue ones more often than not. The purple one is rather expensive on the exchange, though.

Thank you everyone, great to get some fresh perspectives. Also this is not my first character I've been around for a long time lol
