Using D7/Kamarag Original for PvE?

As a Romulan, I actually like the D7/Kamarags... so is it possible to build them so that I can use them for E-PvE?

T3 ships arent really viable for end-game stuff. You could make them work for normal-grade PVE but I wouldnt take them into Elite STFs except on a lark and only with a group that knows you'll be sandbagging the rest of the team and making them carry.

My Rom sci used to fly a T4 Draguas before Roms had a science vessel of their own, and even with end-game fleet and reputation gear it was really iffy. T3 is too far back I think.

Is it possible? Sure, even Elites aren't really hard. Is it really a particularly good idea? Well, not really.

The T3 K'T'inga has roughly the same hull as a B'Rel Retrofit (which doesn't have a reputation of being a sturdy ship), has 2 ENG Consoles. Your margin for error is very small. You also only have a 4/2 weapon setup, but that is equal to a BOP.

You CAN play it for level cap PVE. Hell you can probably even sneak it into an STF, people may think you're a KDF player flying a Fleet K'T'inga. But I wouldn't fly the T3 K'T'Inga into an STF where people are expecting endgame level performance with endgame ships. It's not fair to the players, unless your team knows of this and is fine with it.

I've taken the T2 KDF K'Tanco and Fed Cruiser Refit for STFs before, but only with fleetmates who knew about it. I wanted the challenge, I wanted to play with those ship skins. But I would never dare taking them into other missions with people who may not appreciate one flying a low level ship, because your performance is below standard and your ship will not pull its fair weight.

Me? I get irate when I identify low tier ships, when I'm doing everything I can CC'ing, destroying stuff, saving the objectives, and what not to support the team even more than I normally should... because some dude is flying around in a low level ship and can't pull his weight at all.

I ground a Fleet K't'inga and am running it as a TOS-era treaty transfer ship with Rommie gear, it's lovely.

The issue for the OP is that he is a Romulan-KDF player. So he can't get the endgame Fleet K'T'Inga. The only D7 available to them is the T3 ship which, IMO, is inappropriate for endgame with people you don't know well.

The Roms could use a playable D7, since it is a canon ship from TOS as part of the agreement between the Romulans and Klingons (Roms got D-7's since their shipbuilding was woefully bad at the time compared to the Klingons & Starfleet; The Klingons got cloaks).

Sadly, as with most other things ToS, I have a feeling that Cryptic won't hear us out becuase they don't like ToS past T1... :( I mean, KDF gets their D7 at T5, yet the Rommies can't have a Fleet T'Liss skin on a T'varo body?

However, I just had a bit of a brainstorm. Being that the Rommies are woefully lacking for low-level ships, I mean, they go Tac-tac-tac-eng-finally a mix, this gives us a way to get some variety into the low-level lineup...

ToS D7 skin as a C-store alternative to the T'Liss (akin to NX or Grissom in Fed lineup). K'Tinga at T2, Kamarag at T3, both kitted as "engie based" cruisers for the Roms, complete with full warbird makeover. Then take / make a new BoP line (starting with "classic" BoP at T2, and modify it some in Rommie-esque designs for T3/4. Thinking straightening the wings some for T3, adding the D'Dierex inspired split wings center nacelle at T4) to fill the "science" role in the early levels - no EBC on any of these. Then it's a matter of making a T4 "Escort" (Pre'Kif? Ha'beta?) to give the Roms a full-on low-level shiplist...

And before the KDF chimes in with their complaints, as much as I'd love to see a low-level KDF science fleet, the raider-BoPs do a passable job with their all uni lineup. Do note, that for the Rommie Warbird-BoPs, they get a "standard science lineup", not the uni-lineup of the KDF... :)
Detecting big-time "anti-old-school" bias here. NX? Lobi. TOS/TMP Connie? Super-promotion-box. (aka the two hardest ways to get ships) Excelsior & all 3 TNG "big hero" ships? C-Store. Please Equalize...

Standard K'tinga or Kamarag I would say is a stretch but the Z store Koro'tinga could flourish at end game.

That upgrades the ensign eng into a Lt. Eng thus enabling the flavor of the month AtB and adds a third eng console.

    TT 1, Bfaw 2

    EptS 1, AtB 1, DEM 2

    ET 1, AtB 1

    HE 1, TSS2 or ST 2

    2 Spire AP consoles

3 Fleet Neutronium + HP consoles

    1 Assimilated console

    4 AP DBB

    KCB, Omnidirectional AP Beam Array

Sphere Warp Core for AP bonus

That will give you 6 forward firing weapons, 5 of which boosted by the engine at Bfaw most of the time with mid 30's hull HP.

    3 Cruiser commands available.

Ya that should be more than fine even in ESTF's

I got the Kamarag which was awarded for the introductory run of the 'Temporal Ambassador' FE. It is the one in my sig banner. This is a fun little ship. I run ESTFs with it all the time and I do not get complaints nor do I feel I am imposing on anyone. I am planning on getting the Fleet version shortly. Because I really like it.

I am unsure of how different the 'regular' Kamarag is from the FE one. Does it have one less aft weapon slot and one less console slot? My advice is to use it if you like it. It does have a learning curve to using it well. But it is just as viable as any other of the smaller ships out there with the same number of console slots.

Standard Kamarag is a T3 grade ship, FE "special" is a stock T5. Fleet variant is available as well...

I think the Kamarag is C-store level though, we're talking extra ensign and console over the "stock" T3s...

You can definitely bring that ship up to a level where you get more damage output than the average pug. Especially the Koro't'inga class (T3 C-Store Variant).
You'd need some expensive gear. Fleet Consoles and Weapons, maybe Lobi Consoles, a good Space Set, Romulan Embassy BOFFs. rollercoaster already gave good build advise. I got my T2 Exeter in with two beams and the grav torp up to 5k pre Rep-Revamp, so it can definitely be done.

The problem is in the average PuG you have to carry the team either by doing a lot of DPS or by providing Crowd Control, or best a combination of both. You won't be able to accomplish this in a T3 ship, so you will get frustrated a lot. You cannot slot Gravity Well, and if you go full out on DPS, i.e. BFAW and A2B + DEM you'll get alot of aggro that you just won't be able to tank.

If you show up in a premade group in a T3 ship expect to end up on a lot of ignore lists and get hate tells, so that's no place for it either.

You could join the STB channel in my sig, but that would require you to use a canon loadout, i.e. Disruptors and Photons, and not to get higher than 5k DPS. Forming groups can also take a while there, so you can't rely on that channel alone, either.

My proposal is to to get a T5 ship you like (I personally love the Mirror Mogai from the exchange) and use that for general duty, but also fit out your D7 to play single player content and premade groups that allow low tier ships.
