Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.
If it means retiring the existing fleet versions, then god I hope not. That's such a blunder.
I don't think they would need to for the others. I believe that the reason they retired the original Maelstrom was because it was almost identical to the fleet Saber, aside from a universal BOFF station and one less point in turn rate.
Though the idea of new consoles for those old dusty ships sounds pretty appealing. That Nadeon Detonation Bomb of the Tempest is pretty wicked.

Well, the Fleet Star Cruiser is practically never seen on account of being outlandishly expensive due to lack of C-Store upgrade, and outclassed by the Oddy Sci Cruiser, which shares its console and boff layout, but has Universals that let it do better and Sensor Analysis. In short, the Fleet Starcruiser is junk.
Basically, the D'Deridex boff layout on a Fed Cruiser. Add in Sensor Analysis for flavor.
I like that! Especially with the Sensor Analysis added in to make it unique. And this is a serious question: possibly allow it to have a Secondary Deflector as well?
I think that Cryptic needs to put more love in some ships. like the Star Cruiser, Deep Space Science vessel en Rec Science Vessel. They need more skins for it.

No, it's still not a science ship (defined as Cmdr Sci, SA, Subsystem Targeting).
No, it's still not a science ship (defined as Cmdr Sci, SA, Subsystem Targeting).
As it would NOT have subsystem targeting it would NOT be a science ship. I was suggesting a cruiser with Sensor Analysis and Secondary Deflector, but NO subsystem Targeting.
Or, it could be made to have Sensor Analysis and Subsystem Targeting but NO secondary deflector. My thoughts were to blur the distinction between Science Vessel and Cruiser when it comes to the features of the Star Cruiser.

Also, we had those constellation class assets leaked a while back. Heavy Cruiser Re/retrofit coming soon?
