Thoughts on the Nadion Saturation Bomb console

Hey guys! With the advent of the Patrol Escort refit and the Fleet Patrol Escort refit, a lot of people are talking. Everyone who gets the ship seems to love it, myself included. Now, this, as the title notates, does not concern the ship itself, but rather the console that comes with the C-store version. Upon the initial gaining of the console, I thought that the console would be underpowered and weak. when I built a Phaser build on this ship...... wow. this console is fantastic. It isn't ideal for PvP, but I did use it there and one-shoted quite a few players. and pulled down a cube in KSE in one second or less.

http://skillplanner.stoacademy.com/?build=gibbsfleetpatrolescortrefit_4854

I do have to note that I am running the Counter-Command deflector, as well as impulse engines (I could not find the counter command impulse engines on the list.) and the traits Fluidic Cocoon and Biotech patch were not showing on the selections either.

The point of this is, What does everyone else think of the Nadion Saturation Bomb think? as well as the ship itself. Thoughts?

Well, speaking as a Sci Captain and flying it at a Sci vessel (Universal Lt Com is manned by a Sci Boff), I'm loving it... Approach group - pop GW and let loose the "Dogs of War".

It may not be the "optimal" thing to do, but it's fun as all get out. :D

Yes in combo with grav well I am finding it very effective on lots of things... I love doing it to probes in KSE

I just wish it wasn't locked to only the one ship class... :(

I really like to use it for the huge boom and i think its actually one of the few "Gimmick"-Consoles worth equipping, just for the raw firepower.

How does the Nadion Saturation Bomb console rate on the old Fleet Patrol Escort (the one with 5 BOFFs and the universal ensign?). Yes, I still have it on my primary character.

Yeah, I was wondering about that myself.

Ultimately decided not to buy the ship this time around because I have yet to see a ship that made me want to pry my Sci captains out of their Vestas.

But it had occurred to me that this ship would be an excellent cloak killer. AoE's all over the place on ships with no shields up?

What's the cooldown like on that sucker? How long does the radiation field last?

Cooldown is 3 mins, the radiation disperses pretty quickly from my experience.

Wont work unless you have detected the ship.. you have to have a ship targeted to use it. Cant use it as cloaking ship finder.

The Radiation field lasts for 10 secs and combined with GW thats a painful 10 secs for anyone caught inside.

It is one of the best 'gimmick' consoles. Pure unadulterated firepower.

It's on par with the vesta console options. But given the new doff's that add a bonus failure when using subsystem targeting, i can't see using it on my sci toons.

My tac toon loves the fleet variant. My engineering toon is 'getting used to it'.

On par with the Vesta consoles? I kinda doubt that... they don't really match the Nadion Bomb... All phaser damage (even the cloud is phaser damage), fully buffable with 5 Phaser consoles.

I like it, don't get me wrong... but it could use to be toned down a smidge.

Engineers would seem optimal for most if not all Escorts.

I would have to really wonder about the "on par with Vesta consoles" part considering the big beam from it can utterly destroy things if you have a good setup. The Gravitic bubble is extremely handy and pretty dangerous to NPC's with their super torps, and the AoE heal + GW or Tractor Repulsors is fun stuff.

It would be nice if it just was general energy damage. But they force us to use phasers if we want to get everything out of the console and the tailgun despite phasers being useless. The new undine Rep uses Phasers, the Andorian Ships use Phasers and now this. They should change the proc of the Phasers to something more useful then i would be happy with a patrol escort (but not the ugly Tempest design)

am i the only one that has a problem with this console? i mean the scimitar in cannon is the most recent super weapon we've seen, and we know it's supposed to be able to kill anything hit by it. the skill is in good balance as it takes like 9-12 seconds (forget how much exactly, i dont have one) to charge up and fire, and that whole time it's completely vulnerable. once it fires it really doesnt do that much and is a single burst attack.

this new little federation console came out of nowhere, has no reason to be so powerful, has no charge up that i've heard of, and has been oneshotting people. like, the complete and utter shattering of any idea of balance from this is ridiculous. sorry, i know alot of people have already bought this ship and love it, but this is wrong. what do the other escorts in the game have?

amitage: torpedo console that is rarely effective against most targets
prometheus: separation console that is both highly buggy and pathetic
defiant: cloaking device that decloaks you for talking to a wall half the time
BOP: small increase in damage when attacking from a rear side
gurumba: deathstar like beam that 3/4 times doesnt fire right.

come on guys, there's no reason for this....

Hey that thing has a 3 minute cooldown and can only use the full potential when used with phaser consoles. So if you want to use the Tailgun and the NSB console you have to use Phaser weapons and Phaser consoles and with that you sacrifice any useful weapons type for this. I thought about getting the Fleet Patrol Esort but now that i know i have to use Phasers i will not get it. i will keep my Armitage with AP weapons.

Also, you need to be a tac captain and pop some cooldowns to be able to do the most damage, and if you are shooting it at anything fast moving, it doesn't do as much.

Your Armitage also has a specific damage-type console (assuming you use it, the Photon Torpedo Point Defense System), which means using Photon Tac consoles if you want to make the most out of that console... really it's just a matter of doing a direct comparison and picking what interests you:

    Tempest vs Armitage:

    31500 Hull/0.95 Shield Mod vs. 32000 Hull/0.9 Shield Mod
-Tempest has 98.47% Hull and 105.56% Shields of the Armitage

Cmdr Tac/Lt Cmdr Eng/Lt Sci/Lt Cmdr Universal vs. Cmdr, Lt, and Ensign Tac/Lt. Cmdr Eng/Lt Sci
-Tempest has much more flexibility, but only has 4 seats for Bridge Officer Traits

    5/2/2 vs 4/3/2 Tac/Eng/Sci consoles
-Tempest has that whole 5 Tac console thing going for it

    16 Turn vs. 15 Turn
-Tempest has 106.67% base turn rate compared to the Armitage

    Tail Gun vs. Hangar Bay
-Rear-firing dual cannon with full-time CRF1 and 90 degree arc vs. your choice of carrier pet

Phaser Bomb gimmick console vs Photon Torpedo gimmick console
-Easier to boost with a Phaser Energy build vs easier to boost with a Photon Torp build

Each craft has advantages and disadvantages relative to the other; don't let the gimmicks pigeon-hole you into a build, but don't ignore the perks building around the gimmicks provides either. :P

[EDIT] Has anyone tested to see if Reverse Shield Polarity absorbs the Nadion Saturation Bomb, since it does energy damage?

Everyone buying this ship for this console should know that if it affects PVP and causes to many tears it will get the nurf bat. This is comming from the track record of all the past consoles that cryptic has released. Now some were broken and needed a fix, but some were just to powerful for the liking of the PVP community. Just saying. Be warned.

It's not on a Romulan ship, so I doubt it. Oh it might kill a person here or there, especially if the player firing it cheesed it up first. But the ship cannot cloak, and has no access to the same level of BOFFs a Romulan can, so I really wouldn't worry about it. That said, it is still a good ship, PvP or otherwise.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

What?? Haven't you heard. Cryptic is against power creep. To say they have made a OP console is against all they believe in right. They just spent 6 months erasing our old Traits UI and making a New taits system just for the sole reason of fixing Power creep didn't they. Cryptic loves us, they wouldn't Forfeit gameplay for gimmicks to snag new players. I don't believe it. Father takes care of us. Father loves us.

It's been all the afternoon I'm obliterating Vo'quv, tankers, healers, bugs, random escorts and cruisers.

That console is great, I don't see the problem with it. Works just fine and to avoid it you just need to distribute shield power and get out of it. I time it with Alpha and Omega and when TT wore off from the target, unleash it while cannons lowered the facing. Can't get out of that ship! :P

There are many other powerful consoles. Now that we got something worth the slot... people complain. Hey, learn to counter it. If you stay in its firing line it's your mistake.

My comment on Vesta consoles is based on continuing to use (some of) them after playing with the ship.

Most times the gimmick console gets tossed, especially if it's not universal for something of greater value, usually a passive or universal console.

Ship-specific consoles generally are a bust. While cool, their abilities are almost always cosmetic and rarely change the outcome of combat:

    Ablative Armour
    Breen Energy Dissipator
Fed Cloaking Device (common, this is SUCH a waste of space)
    Manheim Device
    Metreon Gas Canister
Multi-vector assault module (The resulting 'pets' don't do enough damage to warrant)
    Phase Shift Generator
    saucer Separation Module
    Tholian Tetryon Grid
Torpedo Point defense (loved it at first, but was specc'd for quantums)
    Transwarp Computer

Point of MVAM is to enhance a specific part of the ship, not to make more damage from pets. A Beta Command split MVAE can zap around like a bug and deal some serious damage, if you know what you're doing.

Phase Shift makes you immune to everything. Everything. If there's a problem, just activate it. Not even Nadion Saturation Bomb, Thalaron Pulse or Ramming Speed will hurt you.

It would be nice if it just was general energy damage. But they force us to use phasers if we want to get everything out of the console and the tailgun despite phasers being useless.

This is my concern with it. I can't decide which to go with:

I have a Romulan plasma build that, on top of the 5 tac consoles, could eek out another 25% base damage using two embassy consoles + Romulan set two piece bonus. (Torp and Zero point). However this would require me to give up the Nadion console.
I would clearly do more raw damage with Romulan plasma, with every hit. Not to mention the disruptor proc in there as well, which helps the team in STFs. But the rail gun and wouldn't do much damage and no nadion console.

On the other hand, a phaser build would buff the nadion console tremendously. WITHOUT phaser consoles the Nadion does approximately 10,000 damage per bomb, so I can't even imagine what phaser buffed bombs would do. From what I hear it would be a glorious sight to behold.
The drawback would be I'm reducing my maximum raw damage with every hit for a bigger boom every three minutes. And losing the disruptor proc to settle for a less useful phaser proc.

So far I'm ditching 7% of my damage in a plasma build to fit in the Nadion console, and settling for the nadion as a more modest boom. I felt this was a good compromise, but in the back of my mind I still wonder if a full phaser build would be worth it.

Don't let them promote you. Don't let them transfer you. Don't let them do anything that takes you off the bridge of that ship, because while you're there... you can make a difference.

I you use Fleet Phasers Or Elite Fleet Phasers (Dmgx3 available for all fleet weapons, if you PvE more because you usually dont miss much so better go for Dmg) and the Console from the Undine Rep you can get a 7,6%,( i think) boost for Phaser Damage.
Thats almost as good as the Normal Antiproton Build with the 10%Bonus from the 2 Piece Obelisk set. Of course you will still sacrifice the raw Dmg proc for a rather useless random 5 Second subsystem deactivation. So honestly i would go with a AP build or keep the Romulan Plasma and get the 25% Bonus DMG from the conoles but i dont know if Torpedoes are really good on Escorts Anymore since we have the Cutting beam with 360° Damage to defend your flanks.. Which consoles are best used with Romulan Plasma

The Nadion Cosole fires once every 3 Minutes. Might be Useful in PVP with luck but in PvE /STF Missions , if you have a good Team, is not needed. The usual Special Task Force Mission with a good team can be done in 5 Minutes with a not so good Team still in under 10 Minutes. And there are not so many moments were the Nadion bomb would be really Useful, maybe the final Boss but then over the whole time of the Battle more base Damage would be better.

    Why 10.000 DMG per bomb?

The stats say about 2500 Phaser damage per bomb and if the Enemy does not move another 500 Phaser Dmg for 10 Seconds so about 7500 Damage if the enemy does not move away from the Radiation field. And it says there that only 1-3 Bombs hit a target so from 6 Bombs 50% hit. so 3 Bombs with 7500Dmg Each make 22.500 Dmg Every three minutes. And you sacrifice the pure, raw Damage of Plasma or Antiproton forthat? Don´t. And always consider he Phaser Proc. Shields are down fas so that proc would be useless then, Many large Enemies dont move fast so a deactivated Impulse for 5 Seconds is also useless. 5 seconds Weapons deactivation sounds good but is not. And thats for pvE. In PvP every player will have ways to prevent the Phaser Proc from being effective at all.

You have to be in space to get the right values, this is a build with 4 Spire Phaser Tac Consoles.

    T0bDcWJ.jpg

For me it does not matter what energy type I use I normally go with the canon weapons for the faction.

I might not do the maximum damage but I like to play the game this way so my only advice is, play the game how you want to play it.

Well, with my experience with the thing. I've one-shotted cubes in ISE and KSE with this console, fully buffed with Alpha III, BetaIII, TT I, Tactical Fleet I, 5 Spire phaser consoles, and a weapon battery gets me to 60-90k per bomb. You call it on par with vesta stuff? heck, fully buffed on this compared to a vesta fully buffed, this nadion bomb will win any day of the week, now unbuffed, vesta will take the cake. But I love the console, Here's to hoping it's not nerfed!
