I have this same issue with weapons and shields disappearing on Crystalline Catastrophe. I did NOT have this issue before season 9. Something changed with the patch, and not for the better.
Because as I've said before, and that you refuse to believe, it is an engine issue.
There is absolutely nothing that can be done about it. There is absolutely nothing that has been changed in Season 9.
This is an engine limitation.
It can draw X number of beams and X number of shield effects and X number of torpedo effects and X number of fighters and X number of cannon shots and everything else all at the same time. Once that number is exceeded, it does not display the effects anymore (and it is very, very random what it does display).
It is a Cryptic Engine limitation. Period. There is nothing that can be done.
This issue has plagued STO since launch (get into any large engagement with lots of ships and mobs and you will see it). This issue has plagued CO since launch (get a bunch of players all in one spot, say, the Takofangs fights, and you will see it). I'm assuming it's in NW as well, but I don't play that.
No dev will come in here and say anything other than to confirm what I said above. Period.

Yup, its not only the limitation of the engine. Its very OBVIOUS that cryptic did something as well with S9. Because as every body else, before S9 i only had these issues once in a while, not always... :mad:, btw, undine playable ships are laggy as hell. Maybe that has something to do with it.. LOL.

+1 No problems until Season 9. Now I can't see my weapons fire (unless I turn camera sideways to eliminate seeing other friendlies making pew pews.), although I can see the cooldowns on each weapon.

Oh I never said it was happening like this before season 9. My point was just that noobish player make it worse since if they have a button they think they need to push it. Ive done maps where it was just a couple of normal cruisers and escorts and we had no issues. But then we didn't have a billion fighters or need to call on photonic ships and send distress signals. Like before S9 I necer had an issue in the Voth Battle Zone but now the final Dino is a slide show. I don't even bother with the bonus Voth round in the undine zone, its just unplayable.
undine playable ships are laggy as hell. Maybe that has something to do with it
that could be part of it. I personally call the Karfi the lag boat. Between its sound effect, fighters and smoking engine trail. Any Fleet Alert against the Karfi is usually laggier than normal

Could this in anyway be in the slightest, similar to the problem with invisible weapons?

Well, working with layers is really usual, and i am sure cryptic used em rendering the weapon effects as well, but in any case, it doesnt matter at all. The only thing that matters if this getting fixed asap. How many time cryptic will "let" us to experiment this game-breaker limitation??

Interestingly, I noticed today in ESD orbit that the contrail from my AEGIS impulse engine would vanish when I was behind my ship and tilted upwards at about a 30 degree angle looking down towards the top of the ship. If I'd swing the camera around to pretty much any other point it'd vanish again.
This is on my Mobius. Same ship I've been having the missing weapons animations since S9.
It seems to be the 'Visual FX quality' setting. I set it to low, and this problem dissapeared. I'm guessing that cryptic tried to improve the visuals for weapons, and somehow broke them instead.
The difference between low and high seemed extremely minor to me, so even if this is not the best solution, at least it makes the game playable again.

Of course that fixes it. The lower the quality, the lower are the requirements for the engine. But thats not the point, i dont want to see my torps with a crappy quality. Just one fuzzy light in the space.. At least for me, god what is the point to play a game 4 years old if i cant enjoy it using maximum quality settings. its ridiculous. WE should be able to use max quality settings, thats all. The two only things you see in space with you are fighting are your own ships and the weapons. Two essential things. I dont want to forget about one of em. The feelling will be not the same, not by far.

But thats not a solution for all weapon types. Voth cannons have no visuals at low settings since they were released. I gave it up, hoping for a fix for them... instead I hope we will get a fix for that new bug here...

There is a layer bug
before season 7 you could target as sphere with your mouse in front of a gate or cube
now if a gate is behind your target you cannot target sphere with your mouse pointer until you move the camars angle showing no target behind your desired target
This is a differnt bug i believe

the problem is too many seperate avatars on the screen at one time in your visble area...and these avatars/ships are using beams torps ect .....adding more resource drain

Yes, I've had the same problem with the gate/sphere targeting. Hope this and the hidden effects issues get solved. I have had to downgrade my graphics settings, and still in some instances am losing weapons/shield strength halo/etc.
My deflector animation is working again.... don't ask me how I fixed it. Been changing so many settings since S9, can't remember where they started....

this needs to be fixed as i cant even see my ships weapons fireing now, and its hard to tell if im attacking something or if im just sitting there trying to heal my self from the enemies attacks
How can you blame the Game Engine? I'm sure it works fine if you're plugged directly into the server, like the Devs are.
Just think of the amount of data being sent over the net from, let's say, the Undine BZ. Over how many hops there and back total? Aren't you going to lose some packets along the way? We're talking about A LOT of data per second, a different DPS indeed.
Either way it's bad designing and ultimate fail once overload is reached. The Devs think fun is mobs, mobs and more mobs and it's simply ruining the game.
You'd be surprised just how little information actually gets sent in a MMO.
For example, I'm going to fire a Torpedo Spread towards 3 ships.
I'm not sending to all the players, "Fire 3 torpedoes in that angle and arc towards Mob 1, aiming for the main hull, upper left engine pylon, and forward sensor dish, and 3 more torpedoes in that angle and arc towards Mob 2, etc etc."
Instead, I'm sending to all the players, "Player A uses Torp Spread 3 power towards targets X, Y, Z." The rest of the information gets generated on the fly on the client's end.
Why? Because it's not important 'how' the torpedo looks in flight - it just matters that the power fired. The visuals aren't synced up that way.
Anyway, it's not a bandwith issue. It's a Cryptic Engine issue. And there's nothing that can be done to solve it. If you never saw it in the past, you apparently never ran Crystaline Entity or Starbase Fleet Defense (20 man) as it happened there ALL THE TIME. Or you're running on very low detail levels.
Period.
That said, I find it interesting that some people say that weapon effects and such got improved with Season 9. Maybe running a second 'pass' on them in flight and such. An idea, for sure - as it would eat up the available number of 'effects before things start vanishing' that much quicker.

Yes, these graphic problems are getting worse with each patch as today I noticed the same thing.
I was idling above DS9 and depending what angle and direction the camera was pointed, ships would disappear (though their targeting window remained visible) and reappear, not all the ships mind you, just a few select ships. Even the wormhole would disappear depending on the camera position.
I'm currently in the middle of uploading a full dump via the Cryptic error reporting gizmo (all my previous crash reports took all of ten seconds) that is 1579573242 bytes (over an hour upload). Must have been a doozy.
No visuals on shields or weapons looking forward havent got a clue what im shooting at most of the time but if i look from the side or front its ok...???? need eyes in the back of my head at the moment,,,,,,also the sound quality is bloody terrible,,,,,all since S9 and getting worse with every patch.
Ow, lol, i had the worst terrible experience so far with this thing. Yesterday i was doing the "Last Stand" mission from the romulan arc, the one where you need to fight in a shuttle to defend the city. Well, i didnt see any projectile, or any weapon at all. Not only that, my shields were off, i had a stupid icon (cant remember about what) over my shuttle all the time, covering the entire shuttle and i coudnt see anything. Just a yellow blinking spot in the screen and the enemies flying around (everybody knows shuttle related stuff sizes are really terrible in this game). No weapons, no effect, no shields nothing, just my shuttle and the stupid yellow icon blinking. I didnt have a clue if i was shoting straight, from rear, or watever. After 15 minutes i just droped the mission. For god sake. I didnt even see the high yield elachi torps, and i was going boom all the time cuz i didnt have a clue wat was going on. Terrible. I hope they fix this someway, or the days are coming to an end.
I have little new to offer, other than I have also observed a very noticeable worsening of this problem around the time of season 9. Something did change about a month ago as the problem is significantly worse, and I've seen it happen in instances where not a lot of things were being rendered.

i have just experienced this vanishing act for the first time just now, doing elite conduit infected. Not a nice thing to see your weapons, actually, not seeing your weapons firing.
I also noticed the fx for the assimilated engine i have on my andorian tac ship were vanishing as well as the fx for the universal adapted console. They'd blink on and off as if someone is turning the lights out.
My personal thought on those sayin pwe will cshut down sto, if they were just milkin it, they wouldnt be implementing new content all the time...... it is disappointing tho they keep releasing broken patch after patch on us tho. They want new content, thats fine, i have no problem with new content, what i do have a problem with tho, is the lack of them fixing bugs. Very disappointing

Season 9.5 should be all about fixes, forget changing the crafting for now, do that at a later date. Fixing the bugs, specially those that are 4 yrs old, would make soooooo many people stoked. I would be one of them

Pre S9 I can't ever recall having my weapons fire be invisible. After S9 launch, this oddity started occuring.
I've even upgraded to a new graphics card since S9 launched, with max detail settings possible I still get this problem.
Might need to try low settings and work up, see if some setting in particular is causing it.

This Shot Clearly shows my ship (Excelsior in middle of screen) being hit, i have full shields but the shield gfx is not showing, also my weapons are firing as you can see by the cd on my weapons display
