First attempt at Undine Assault

Hmm.

So, I gave it a try at Elite. After 3 mins everybody quit the STF so it was just me. I decided to stick around. Which seems typical for the STF?

I have complete confidence in the ship, weapons, boff's, crew and skill tree. I have no confidence in the rep system. So, I have to do more tweaks for firepower and a little shielding (somehow).

But just to lay to rest that I run with a subpar build. It's not. It handled well considering I had about 10 Undine ships at Elite trying to blow me up

Undine STFs aren't worth the time investment. You'll get way more dil and marks from doing the battlezone, even if you enter it when the instance is already half-finished.

Undine Assault at Elite or even Normal is too much of a toss up if you PUG it. I've found it to have a horrible failure rate because nobody, and I mean *ABSOLUTELY NOBODY* realizes what the objectives are and that you have to escort and clear a way for the Command Vessels to shut the Rifts down. I've gone into the Team & Zone Chats to inform fellow players what we're supposed to be doing. But the majority of the time, the idiots just stand around the rift to fight the Undine ships for 20-30 minutes and make no progress. It then gets to a point where they finally figure out how badly they're failing and leave.

The mission is ridiculously easy if people followed the objectives. It is soooooooooooo straightforward, so DPS oriented, that it's not even funny. Yet because people pay no attention, what should be a cake walk is a nightmare to the fools out there.

with a full team it's not easy (mainly do tot he amount of enemies not because it is complicated). it's basically impossible to do solo

i find the most annoying aspect of it are the one hit kill asteroids

Undine Infiltration is no better: always that one guy who either arrests an innocent or lets a disguised Undine walk free. *smh* Is it too hard to notice details? But atleast it is completeable.
    Rejoice JJ Trek people....

I did the video because people feel I'm a noob or newbie. Considering I stayed and everyone ran. The ship handled well considering the circumstances. I think I got a 80k dps hit and some other 10/20k dps hits at the same time and was still standing.

Are these actually considered STFs or do people just call them as such because they blow up sometimes for a change?

If it's supposed to be a STF they'd have to fork over 960 dil on top of the marks, but I don't think they do that. I like the concept of the mission, and I did it two times so far and won both. One was easy, one was painful. Depends on how TRIBBLE the team is. I've definitely seen idiots just not getting the mission structure.

For a really ****ed up mission, did anyone play Breach Elite since S9? The Bastion ships outside the hull destroyed my sci ship within 2 seconds, no chance to do ****. If you go at them with the whole team it's easy of course, but splitting up into 3 teams like it should be? Hahahaha, no. Of course once you get inside the ship, the mission is trivial. Fantastic balancing job there Cryptic.

I think that's actually been confirmed as a bug and they're working on putting it back the way it used to be.

I am not sure that anyone is expected to do this mission solo. Do you have a combat log for the first 3 minutes?

Actually, the first minute might suffice. At the 29 second mark, you seem to explode from a single weapon hit. But I am not sure - did you cloak just the moment you were shot (I can't quite idenfity the effect, and I have no sound on this machine.) Might be interesting to see what hit you and for how much.

How many people do that, I wonder, and how many have yet to encounter the Gorn map?

The Gorn map was my first map, I assumed that all maps were like that

Undine Assault's problem is that too many people quit, though I have managed to complete it with just 2 other captains (both had good builds).

Lately I've only played Infiltration to get my daily Undine marks fix, the elite level version is a walk in the park when compared to other missions.

Really there is nothing wrong with the map itself, the problem is the playerbase. Kinda like Mine Trap.

Though the rewards in relation to the difficulty deserve a revisit.

Undine assault is a very good mission, hard without being frustingly so.
The real problem is when pugging 99% of the time 1-2 people either quite or just go afk. At least every other time I've done it at least one player has turned around from the start, flown to the left hand side of the map and just sat there.
It's still do able with 3 players if you have a good build and everyone knows what there doing, but it takes too long for too little reward. Most annoying of all that **** who took no part still gets the reward.
Cryptic really needs to address the issue of AFKers. It was a bit of a problem in the older STF's, so far in season 9 it's made doing STF's pointless.

I enjoy Undine Assault though it's rewards are horrible for the time invested. Fairly doable with 3 people (that know what they are doing), just a bit of a slog vs a full group.

The changes it needs are for them to double the marks and toss in some dilithium (1440?). Though that would still be less then three Borg STFs you could have run in the same amount of time.

I was hit with a 80k hit from some 80000k dps hit from a Gorn ship explosion and then 2000k hit from a Undine ship. Not accounting what hits I took 6 seconds before. Additionally, my shields was fully up.

Next thing I knew from ;25 to :29 I just went boom. The same thing happens in Vicious Cycle. A hit of 100k then no less then 6 seconds another 100k hit.

    hmmm

I tend to agree with the people here who say its not players not knowing what to do.

because lets face it, it has some of the most derptastic objectives....if you dont know what you're doing after your second run.... well you're just dumb plain and simple.

I do think however that on elite, they should either reduce the damage elites do or reduce the amount of undine, because in retrospect its almost like playing the hive on elite (granted objectives are kind of not as basic as Undine assault), however I do end up fairing much better on the hive.

but what im saying is, I love a challenge....but this.... I mean really....you get barely anything from it and to top it off, the undine ships sponge pretty much everything even with MKII gear & your traits + crew specs etc its just ridiculous, I probably wont bother with my undine rep now till they do something about it, likely I wont be doing it for the next few months the way cryptic is lol

Very true it is hard to get everyone to team up and just knock the map over in no time they all just want to go solo or "play with my friend" and the above is the finial result... exit stage left or rage quit.

Let's face it people are stupid in STO. Undine Assault is fairly straightforward, if a bit time consuming, if everyone just works together and pays just a little attention. But I think that is unpopular in this game, see also CSE which could often go very bad before everyone was OP.

You need to have one or two DPSers get down range and destroy/weaken as many ships as possible right as they emerge from the rifts, then the rest of the team sticks with the NPC command ship to escort it along.

With a team that is informed on how to do it, it's a fun mission. I just hope Cryptic doesn't swoop in with the Nerf hammer.

I haven't been in an unsuccessful pug yet *shrugs* but I've only done it like 3-4 times. Personally the Undine Snot Wells(grav wells or w/e) are way to much of an annoyance for me to focus on any Undine missions other than the occasional BZ. They need to nerf the CD on them, and maybe kill the pull a little or something. Other NPC ships use Tractors/Grav Wells on me, and I can easily work around them, or just not care, but the Undine spam them, and I just start floating all over the place, and they seem to have far to many ships all the time too. The little ships are very easy to blow up, but the big dreadnoughts, and bioships take an eternity to blow up. I'll stick to my Borg STF's, and finish up the Rom/Solanae rep before bothering with the Undine garbage.

I thought WoW's forums had angry elitist snobs, but I never could have imagined the level STO forums has.
