Tweaks to the Odyssey

It can be a nice setup but there are some really annoying (and kinda weird) thing about the ship setup.

First off, and I suspect harped on a bunch already, is the inability to launch both the saucer and the escort at the same time. And there isn't even really a reason why
you shouldn't be able to. That single change would sharply improve the utility of the set since maybe both ships out at once would actually make the combined firepower (such as it is) somewhat useful.

Next is the inability of at least the tactical version of the ship to use full on cannons.
The Klingon version of the ship can and the vesta can. Why can't at least the tactical version of the odyssey use cannons?

Also, the bridge officer setups don't make sense either. It's supposed to be a engineering ship, a science ship and a tactical ship but they all have the exact same bridge officer lay outs.
Don't get me wrong; the universals are nice; but it would be nice if the science version had it's commander slot as science, the engineering version had engineering commander and the tactical had tactical commander. Makes it something more of a choice than just watching 5 power points and 1 console slot shift around.

The AI on the two launched ships has a nasty habit of wandering off or not using it's specials. It would be nice to be able to tell the saucer to hold it's gravity well or to fire it.
Would be nice to be able to tell the AI who to attack as well since it seems to get stuck on a target a lot or shoot at some guy at 10k who took a pot shot at you and not retarget on the guys closer that your actually fighting. The utility of the AI units is limited as well since they don't try and even remotely hit the same shield facing as the mother ship which tends to make anything they shoot, other than the saucers GW3, very pointless.

a more "shot in the dark" aspect would be the ability to upgrade the two AI units or at least have what they do based off your skills/ship for things like HP, weapon damage and the like.

It would be nice to see some of this done but I suppose I'm just venting a bit. Ah well.

On your first point I'll agree that the synergy of the 3 Oddyssies could use a tweek. I only went for the Ops as the bonus for using the whole set without being able to use the powers simultaneously just doesn't seem to justify the 3 slots it takes up. I can get more use out of the saucer and two defense consoles. Maybe if using all 3 is considered all OP, allow the 3 to be used with limited abilities.

On the second point, they don't need cannons. The Oddy's are advanced cruisers, but are not really warships like the avenger. Plus without the saucer separation they turn like cruise ships which makes cannons less effective. If you like head on attacks, dual banks can be very effective on them.

3rd point, the bridge set-up is fine as is and very flexible. Cruisers by definition are engineering centric. Even the avenger has engineering for its commander slot. The universal lt. cdr. is what's going to balance your ship towards tactical or science.

Final point, the AI's could always be better, but I don't think the pets should be full control either. The main purpose of them is to create distractions and pester the other ships and they do a fair job of it.

Ops Oddy should at least have one hanger bay makes sense cause it is supposed to be a Command and Control ship it should have a hanger bay of Federation Fighters.

I believe the reason it can't launch all its pets at once is because that ability is reserved for the MVAE.

Multi vector assault escort's multi vector assault mode. I think it's a moot point tbh, being locked out of a console is silly

The whole pitch is a shot in the dark...there are many issues with many ships and they already "looked" at the oddessy.

The Oddy can't launch both its pets at once because that would be a mess.

See, unlike MVAE which spawns two pets at once, the Oddy can launch and recall either/or almost at will, barring only the cooldown. The game would have to keep track of which model to use, since launching both pets alters the ship model. The MVAE doesn't deal with that. What you've got is:
    • MVAE Whole
    • Alpha/Beta/Gamma
Which are all kept track of at once. The only decision the game needs from you is which section you chose to pilot. Simple.

    vs
    • Oddy Whole
    • Saucer Off, Aquarius In
    • Saucer Off, Aquarius Off
    • Saucer On, Aquarius In
All of which the game needs to keep track of. This is the only ship in the game with this many model hotswap variables, and aside from not wanting to step on MVAE's toes, there's no code to keep track of all those variables and creating that function wouldn't be a cakewalk.

Fix crew mechanics, saucer and Aquarius respond to carrier commands. That would help.
Have you tried the new forum on your phone?

Mostly i prefer the saucer being out than the aquarias. The reason being is that the aqaurias dies like super fast compared to the saucer.

Mainly I would not have them both out at the same time. I would like to see the button turn red when they no longer are viable to fight. I sometimes forget about both while fighting and only after a while have to recall them due to the fact that i left them on the other side of the map. I do like that they are green on the map , so most times you can follow them on the medium small hud map.

If i could have tweaks to my ships consoles would be the ability to hav the inside of the ship be more extensive.

Overall, i just have one question. Now what. I have all the consoles, i have all the ships. With my tac oddy geared up , i ask cryptic now what. What else can we put unto those ships?

Hanger pets? Make the aquarias a hanger pet as that is how i see it. Similar to the hortas, but not required to have a slot.

Also, aquarias takes 1000 crew from your ship? Really what the hell for.
Whether you think you are right or wrong, either way you are RIGHT.

The Ody itself is a very fine ship, it trades a bit dps for more survivability. A Hangar would be nice, but it would make the Ody to strong. Its already a good dps ship as it is and doesnt really need a boost. As for the pets, one is near useless (the escort), the other is at least usefull if you dont have much gear (Sacuer), but the Set is totally outdated, so yes, here they should take a second look.
