Silly Question

adorenkoadorenko Member Posts: 0 Arc User
I was looking at the difference between the Avenger Battle Cruiser and the Fleet Avenger Battle Cruiser. It would seem to make more sense to get the Fleet version, I don't see any 1000 day vet stipulation on STO Wiki. So, is there any reason not to get the Fleet version over the C-store version?

Also, some threads I was in yesterday talked about an upcoming ship discount sale. Do the Fleet modules fall under the ship discount sale or would they count as a service?

The fleet version has the better stats but it does not come with the console. (the console is not that great so you're not missing much).

but you should also get the fleet version for just one module if you have already bought the c-store version. so its not like you have to pay full price for both. (unless you bought the fleet version first and then later decided you want to buy the c-store one after.) also c-store is account and fleet is per character so also something to consider.

fleet modules dont come under ship sales.

Also if you have the C-store ship which is an account unlock, you can get the fleet version for only one module on all of your chars.

I have the fleet version and it is just a slightly slower advanced escort with better hull and shields to compensate, as for the Cstore version you get a extra console that auto targets the enemy which IMO isn't worth the outlay.

Generally I find it better in the long run to get a C-Store ship and then upgrade to Fleet version as with C-Store one all your chars on that faction gets access to that ship and then the Fleet version will only be 1 Fleet Ship Module instead of 4 Fleet Ship Modules.

The fact that I can equip one more console by itself outweighs the special console from the C-store, I think, plus the extra hull HP and shield HP puts it over the top. I don't see myself needing this ship again on another toon as I have two Tac officers already, the other one is flying a Scimitar so can't use it anyway. If I created another Tac or another character I think I'd have to kill myself (JK). Plus the 500 less Zen, I can't see why I wouldn't go with the fleet version.

    Thanks

Almost forgot though since those modules don't count under ship discount, do they ever become discounted under another discount weekend?

Buy C-store version, then buy a Fleet module to upgrade it into a fleet version. (2500+500)

You might think you are wasting time getting the C-Store version, but C-Store ships are available to every character on an account, which means you just add a Fleet Module to swap for a Fleet ship.

    1st char - 2000 for Fleet ship Modules, or 3000 for C-store version+module.

    2nd char - 4000 for Fleet ship modules, or 3500 for C-Store + 2 modules.

    3rd char - 6000, or 4000.

    4th char - 8000 or 4500.

    You get the idea.

Edit - wrong number of Fleet Modules, Avenger is 4, not 5...

You're right this makes perfect sense, however if I were to make another Tac character he would be a Klingon. I already have way too many characters right now, with a wife to not annoy the hell out of even more than I already do.

You have to decide if you are looking big picture or small picture with STO.

Small picture, $20.00 for a Single Character ship is cheaper then $25.00 for an Account Wide ship - and then spending $5.00 more for the Fleet version per character.

Big picture, if you think you are going to be playing STO on and off over the next few years the Account Wide version is probably going to be more beneficial to you.

What if Cryptic adds new playable species that you really would like and so you start a new character, and now you do not have access to the Fleet ship?

Considering you can earn the $10.00 difference in less then a month of playing it seems short-sighted to me to go the Single Character way.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

    Fair enough.

    Something else to consider.

Ship Customization. I bought them both same day because the C Store nacelles are swept up. Looks nice, the fleet version are swept down like a star cruiser. I preffered the C Store style. And getting both gives you the choice.

I made the mistake in the past several times, Where I bought the fleet first, then Got annoyed in the Customize Ship section seeing Better Kit Bashing if I'd have bought the Cstore then upgraded. But, Since I didn't.....

So wasted money if you REALLY want all customize options for the ship, IF there is any options to customize. So consider that.

Perhaps but if I do start another Fed toon I'd probably want a different ship anyway. Plus I'm also planing on getting the Ody bundle for my Engineer(Main). So I will have options in the future when comes to T5 or "T5.5," I don't know would you call the C-store Ody a "T5.5" ship?

Ship customization isn't a big deal for me. I don't think I've customized a single one of my ships. /Shrug

Yes, the C-Store Oddy is equivalent to a T5.5 Fleet ship: 10 Cosoles, extra Hull, etc.

also known as T5 +1's, or just "fleet level ships"

Do I need a T5 starbase to upgrade the c-store version? I would log in to check, but I can't.

You need a Tier 4 to get the Fleet Avenger.
