So, since coming back and just running a few missions, I've found myself with an entire inventory full of green and blues. I've checked the prices, and a few of the blues went for a good amount, so I can sell them, but the majority of what I've got is worthless. Is there an STO-equivalent to "disenchanting"? Is there a way to break them down to something else? Or do I just recycle them for whatever credits they give?
Go to the vendors, you'll get 50% return. recycling will give you much less. I usually head to SFA or KDFA, put blues and purples on the exchange and vendor green & whites to bar staff.

The better option is to sell them on the exchange in ESD ,Drozanna, or anywhere else access is given you will make more and get them out of your inventory
1)Check the Exchange to see what price they are listed at, and, more importantly how many of them there are, some items are regular drops from mission rewards that no-one wants, if there a re 200 of them on the exchange, you can bet they are pretty much worthless ...
2)If the EC value on the tooltip is 10000 EC, check to make sure they are being listed at AT LEAST 5000 EC, anything less than HALF the tooltip value is pointless listing, as you can get 50% (some places 60%) of that value from a vendor.
3) Some items are usually worth more than others ... i.e. Weapons with the [Acc] or [CritH] modifiers, even if green, will generally go for a decent price. As are the "currently in vogue" TAc consoles, such as Plasma or Disruptor.
4) Warp Cores (M/AM and Sing) are generally worth more than other items, particularly Blue (Rare) ones with power/subsystem boosting [mods]
Though the Replicator Recycle feature will give you less ECs for a item then selling back to a Base Vendor. Useful is you run out of inventory slots and need to make some room, but its better to treat your surplus as Vendor Fodder if you have the chance...
It depends on the time you wish to invest in selling items. You can use your replicator(delete the item from your inventory), which will net you 40% of the items value. Go to a vendor for 50% of value or a rare vendor which will provide 60%. Or try and sell it on the Exchange. Generally though, items on the exchange at less than half their value rarely sell.
As a matter of course, I usually only keep items that are very rare or that I know are in demand to sell on the Exchange, and since I'm only out 10% by not going to a vendor, junk everything else that I don't intend to use.
What I have done when I first started playing STO is check the prices on the Exchange of all the loot I got. For those items that I can get significantly more money listing on the Exchange for sale I would do so. The rest simply gets sold to a vender for 50%. Be careful though, Commodity Vendors only pays you 40% so avoid selling to them.
The only time I use the Replicator is when my inventory is full and I need to make space for something to pick up. Since the Replicator gives you 40% of the value, you should start with your least valuable items.
Basically I sell the following items to vendors because they are not worth listing on the Exchange since most people simply list them for 50% of the value. There are plenty more that are a waste of time to list on the Exchange though.
If you are into improving your Doffs and you are not in a Fleet, then the Exchange is a good way to sell off your unwanted white Doffs. I currently have around 280 Doffs for my Fed toon. Only 15 or so are white Doffs because I have been selling off white Doffs as I gain more green, blue & purple Doffs.
What I have done when I first started playing STO is check the prices on the Exchange of all the loot I got.
That is an insane waste of time and efforts. When youve played several months and years, you will never sell almost anything in the exchange, because it is worthless. The only things worthy to sell in the exchange are rare purple items that you only can adquire in rewards, lockboxes, and stuff like that. Any regular item, even if it is purple, is not really worthy most of the times. When you start playing, 50.000 EC is a great deal, but when youve played for 1 year, that is absolutely nothing lol. And you will end just recycling the items to save time, mostly lol. Because you will use other methods to gather EC, like selling keys, contraband, etc.

I only did that initially when I first started to play to learn what is worth listing and what is not worth listing on the Exchange. Most things are not worth listing on the Exchange. A few things are, but the only way to find out is to check. Nowadays, I only check the value of something if I am not sure of the value of an item.
The only prices I check on a consistent basis now are for white Doffs that I want to sell on the Exchange.

Is not that. ANY regular item, even if it is purple, its worhtless in the exchange. I mean, you can try to sell it for high prices, but the probabilities that someone will buy it are really low. Of course there will be always "noob" people that will buy it, because he is new or he doesnt know a few things. I mean, its the same to me to sell the item to the vendor and gain 20000 ec, than to sell it in the exchange to gain 30000 ec. The diference is not worthy the time and the need to check every time the value of all the items i gather in a run. Imagine doing that with , lets say 30 items. Thats insane. Besides, as i said, there are thousands of ways to gather EC in bigger quantities, and selling regular items in the exchange is not one of em, precisely.
White doffs, well, thats another option, but again its not worthy to gather white doffs to sell em in the exchange after that. It makes no sense. Not for the quantity of EC you will get.
I gather about 400k EC every day just selling the items on the vendor or just directly to the recycler. That is just doing that, and i dont even worry about it. It is someting that you will end doing as a routine but not with the goal to gather EC. If i want EC, i buy a master key and i sell it in the exchange, or i farm contraband and i sell contraband in the exchange. Those are maybe the fastest ways. Farming foundry missions are useless (they are the same as doing a run of 30-60 minutes in regular play).
Few people buy equipment off the exchange, except high quality stuff round mid-level (VI-VIII purples for twinks). Unless you're an exchange junkie and put time and research in (to find the select few items that will sell), trying to sell any quality X-XII stuff, even purple, on the exchange, is a complete waste of time. The only stuff that sells steadily on the exchange in my experience is crafting mats and odds and ends like Contraband and stuff like that.
Everything else goes to a vendor, which gives a bit more than selling to your on-board replicator.
Especially if you play on Elite setting, the loot you get gives a decent, steady return at any vendor.
Duty officers are one thing that nearly always sells quickly in the Exchange though, in my experience, and they have a high enough market value each (10,000-30,000 for white, depending on type, much more for rarer ones) that it's worth the bother of checking prices. I've never really been able to work out what other things sell well, apart from Contraband. I think it probably varies over time.

10000 - 30000 EC is not high enough market value. Lol
The only people who sells white doffs on the exchange with the only purpose of gain EC are people trying to do massive doff selling , using doffs from their fleet (fleet white doffs are really cheap) and they are selling em on the exchange. There is a moment when you need to discard every white doff from your roster. At that moment, i dont even bother to sell my white doffs, i just dismiss em. Because the EC i will gain is ridicoulous and i will gather it in the next 30 minutes of playing selling the loot i pick..
Nitpicking is a time-honored tradition of science fiction. Asking your readers not to worry about the "little things" is like asking a dog not to sniff at people's crotches. If there's something that appears to violate natural laws, then you can expect someone's going to point it out. That's just the way things are.

Selling doffs is a pretty great way to make money though. Especially grinding up the doffs from the duty officer packs.
Edgecrysger - well, you must be richer than I am. It's worth a few seconds' price-checking to me not to mistakenly sell a 30,000 DOff for 10,000. (I can rarely be bothered to do Tour the Galaxy, which may have something to do with it.)
Having said that, it mostly goes by department, so once I've checked the going rate for, say, Science DOffs (those tend to be at the 10,000 end) I just post all my unwanted Science DOffs for that much without going into any more detail. Civilians are the exception; some are 10,000 or even 5,000, but some, like Refugees, go for the most silly-high prices of all DOffs.

That only gives you 40% value. Some like the bartender at SFA give 50%. Not much difference, but over time it adds up.
What? I've never found a vendor that gives 60%. Can you point out one for me?
I would like to know where that is!

Chief Supply Officer Maela on Deferi Outpost 3 used to offer a higher rate but that was fixed (to 50%) a long time ago.
