So I logged in today to try out this shiny new S9. But, when I went to my Reputation tab, there was a message o'doom: "Your character requires a skill respec to be able to view or choose a reputation skill."
Now, this is in itself unpleasant, but what comes next is worse: I can't respec.
Clicking respec on the skills tab just closes the Status window. At the skill trainer, the Accept option on the respec thing is unavailable, even with all SP assigned (and what's more, the skill trainer won't let me reduce the amount of points in a skill without hitting Reset, and forces a certain number of points in some Admiral skills). So, I can't fix this issue, which leaves me with "invalid" (i.e. there was nothing wrong with them before S9, and they haven't changed) skills, and no ability to pick rep traits.
Things I have tried:
Logging out and back in
Restarting the game
Asking in chat (answer: a couple of others also have this, and nobody knows what to do)
So, uhhh....help?

There used to be a picture here, but they changed signatures and I can't be bothered to replace it.
The part about "skills invalid" isn't new, I had that bug on a character weeks ago. The new thing is that respecs don't work, and we shouldn't really have to use our tokens to fix a bug. :mad:

I go to skills tab, bottom right it says "Skills invalid" hit the respec button and it just closes the character pane.
Bad enough (IMO) that they took these skills i worked for a year to get but now I don't have any at all leaving me vastly disadvantaged. Not game breaking but still, competent software engineers should be running test plans on their product.
Will put it down to new-season-itis and not play for a week (or buy anything) till the patches to the patches come out.

I'm new, and I cannot get past the newbie quest "Spend Skill Points". I have "Spend Skill Points" plastered across my screen, yet I get the "Invalid Skills" and "Respec" option. Clicking respec does nothing.
This is awfully frustrating. I cannot play at this point, and my progress is halted. I'm too new to actually know what to do on my own, and the constant "SPEND SKILL POINTS" interactive option makes playing impossible.

Add in another "Ditto." What's worse - I don't WANT to respec: I like this toon's skills EXACTLY as they are!!

This happened to one of my characters as well.
I was able to respec and it did fix it for me. I still had a few respec tokens on hand to spare. So wont hurt to try if it's an option for you.

When I get in to work tomorrow I willl double check to make sure this thread is visible to the team. I am not guaranteeing anything, I am just stating that I will make sure it is looked into.
In the mean time, always remember that it is smart to open support tickets as well as report on our Bug forums.

So I really want to play this game again because its fun as heck but no one seems to believe I am having an issue with respect and invalid skills still. Devs seem to respond to ticket once every 24 hours, and they tell me I am the one having an issue by pretending to come up with why I am an idiot. I have done everything they have asked, they still will not fix the issue...has ANYONE (sorry for caps) figured out what's going on and how to get around this. This is the latest response I have received from Dev team...

If you are seeing the 'Skills Invalid' text next to your skills, then you will need to hit the 'Respec' button. This will cause the window to close, which is normal. This service is free, and when you next open your window, you will be able to spend all of your points on whatever skill you wish.
When I do this over and over again I re-open the skills window and walla...still not able to spend points on what ever skills I want. Nothing to click nothing to change...all old skills are still locked in.
Help me O-bi...NM wrong game...but please help if you know a solution...
