Way to go Cryptic

Much to my horror Cryptic has decided to go the Blizzard route and dumb down the game. I refer to the "new and improved" traits. Yes you could create a very powerful toon before with some thought and practice. You could also create a Jack of all trades one as well if that was your style. There was a nice customization level with being able to focus on space as main talent or ground or a mix. Now we have mandatory ground and mandatory space with a personel trait box . This is creating a GENERIC toon where everyone will sooner or later have the same toon with the same traits as everyone else. Stop caving to the whining "Oh that Klingon or Andorian or what ever is way to overpowered." causuals who want to take the easy route because they are either to stupid or lazy to learn the game character traits or jealous of players who put a lot of time into developing their toons. Please Cryptic get a freaking clue not everyone wants to have ground traits or even space traits for that matter. I loathe ground missions they are boring and I had my fill while leveling. Please please go back to how traits were FULLY customizable! Do not keep going down the Blizzard road!

Rep passive power creep was a growing problem that needed dealing with, and Cryptic's fix is a perfectly fine forward-thinking move that allows them to crank out more and more without slowly making everyone an unkillable demi-Q.

    Here's a thought.

You know what the Borg like to do? Then again, you probably don't care because they don't make teh epic deeps.

The trait system is far more customizable than you give it credit for. I assume you're complaining about reputation passives, in which case it's not as bad as you assume it is. There weren't that many terribly useful space traits to begin with, and now it actually requires more active planning depending on what you're going to do, rather than making a GENERIC one-size-fits-all reputation passive build.

I'll make like the Borg and adapt to the changes.

You can't possibly believe anymore that it was implemented to counter power creep. The new gear, ships, passive kit powers, traits, etc are all going to make power creep far far worse than a few minor passive buffs.

All of it was done as a way to monetize more stuff. Sure, they SAY they will not be selling more rep slots, but we all know its coming. Maybe not soon, but eventually. Once we get a handful more of reps, people will clamor for it, and they will sell them, perhaps through a T3 fleet holding.

At the very least, we can expect them to release some form of quickslot functionality for traits/rep powers much like the quickswap for ships. You'll have two to begin with, and they will sell more.

It has nothing to do with power creep at all, nor does it have anything to do with making the game more accessible to new players/helpful to vets. If that were the case, powers would have been capped higher than four. More like 8/8/5. That would have been a clear sign that they were aware of a power creep, and are beginning to put a plug in it without stepping on any who has invested into it.

Personally, I don't really care anymore. Yeah yeah, nerf our rep to you can find a way to monetize it, big shock. Superior operative and Technician nerf inc soon I'm sure as well (if they were at all serious about power creep)

Personally I was a bit dissapointed that we are 'forced' into more generic space / ground / special roles.
Before I had a choice to spec as many of the reputation abilities as I liked into either ground or space depending on how I felt. Now I am forced into 4 powers for each. What if I dont care for extra space powers and instead want to maximise my ground skills (or vice versa) ?

This has been the case since the game went f2p (possibly even before). This should not be news.

This. There also was a gigantic power disparity between toons that have grinded through all reputations and those who did not (or were still on their way through). Cryptic somewhat adressed this problem. Now you only need a couple days to create a character with decent traits and not at least 1 1/2 month+ of grinding a huge amount of different rep marks.

And get bored to tears while doing it.

That is another plus for this new system. The content won't get quite so stale so fast if we now can choose to only level a reputation to a certain point, or not bother with it at all. Less grind is surely a good thing.

Aside from the actives (which were only four so far) we always had to choose either between two ground traits or two space traits. There was no way to favour one over the other.

I have 14 toons...13 of which have 4 reputations completed. I put in the time to get them done. I put in the EC, XP and marks. I do not work to have my things later stripped from me. Someone said this was to help new toons...really? If that were the case they would start at level 50 and not 1. New means you have to work just like everyone else to get what you want...your mommy doesn't work here and can't give you the shineys..you have to earn them. Someone else said that this was for people that don't have the time to do the reputation systems. Oh, so lets take things away from players that devote time to the game so that individuals that just drop by once or twice a week have a better gaming experience.

You say I haven't lost anything that the traits are still there. I can't use them the way they were marketed to me. I would have never bothered to finish all 4 reps on 13 toons had I known they were going to do this.

It's bad enough when you work for a month to get a trait and they nerf it...now this.

But you know what...it's ok. The only thing I plan on working on is fleet holdings. Star Citizen comes out in about a year and I have fleeties that have already bought ships there, including myself. So I will just bide my time and work on fleet holdings until it's time to bail. After the lovely mirror event and season 9, STO is just something to kill time until then.

To be honest I was one that stood against this change to the rep system. But regardless of the back lash it went through anyway. I've altered my traits accordingly and I'm not seeing much of a difference. My gripe with it is that I've pushed 6 toons through the reps where as now if I'd started from scratch I wouldn't have had to grind them all start to finish and saved my self a fair bit of time and EC in the process. But as it stands at this moment in time I'm still hacking through waves of NPC's and I'm about evenly matched even PvPing with fellow fleet members.
Oh, it's not broken? We can soon fix that!

It would be ... if there was something else to do ... like longer raids and dungeons .But the only content aside from the FE is grindy battle zones that their only purpose is to complement the Rep system .

Standard really. Power creep must be dealt with as long as it doesn't affect them, the moment it does well......

Well, you say that like its a good thing.

    Endless, identically structured reputation tracks.

    Yes, this change enables that.

Now, i ask you, is that necessarily a good thing......

Personally speaking, i would like to see a little more imagination brought to the table.
