if its removed on the day of release from your folder by some automatic proces i have no control over.

So now it downloads the entire 5gb's.

GG cryptic.

    GG cryptic.

Even though the files are already on your computer, the patching process is not instant. It takes alittle while. Also, there are two things shown when patching. Received is the amount of data actually downloaded, Ptached refers to the actual data patched.

Thats real nice theory, except i can see my system is downloading the entire thing.

The launcher never saved the prepatch data.

    GG.

Step 1 - Sign up for Tribble.
Step 2 - Log into Tribble a few days before the big patch goes live.
Step 3 - Download the Tribble updates.
Step 4 - Log into Holodeck after the new season goes live and download a tiny update.
Step 5 - Post detailed list of steps for angrybear32.

Interesting, I guess I didn't get that error because I always keep Tribble up-to-date. :o

If you pre-patched, then it isn't downloading the whole thing. It keeps the files in a separate folder and then mirrors them into the live folder.

So right now as I'm patching up, it shows the 5gb total. It says that I've patched just over 2gb of that. However, it also says that I've received less than 100MB. That means that I've only downloaded less than 100MB while it's mirrored roughly 1.9GB. I also don't keep Tribble up to date all the time.

Correction: it PATCHES the entire 5GB.

I've patched about 1.3GB, but only downloaded about 230MB so far - and I've been away from STO, as a whole, for the better part of the month.

I am signed up for Tribble, have been for some time now.

I have been keeping Tribble updated since the pre-patch started showing up.

I downloaded an update to Tribble last night, something less than 300mb.

I logged in this morning to download the inevitable final patch before the servers go back up.

When I did I found a 4979mb patch waiting to be downloaded. After more than 3 hours now, I've downloaded `1.8 gigs and patched a tad over 2.2 gigs. It'll take me the rest of the afternoon to get the rest of the patch.

I downloaded the pre-patch again last night before bed. That's in addition to downloading it at least twice since it started up last week. Tribble is and has been up to date as well yet here I am, downloading the near 5gb patch once again.

The pre-patching system obviously doesn't work for everyone. For those it does work for, congrats.

The rest of us though are left trying to get the blasted thing on what is basically the busiest day to try and get it. And for me, since I don't exactly have the fastest download speed, that means it takes even longer than usual to get the patch.

I pre-patch and every time I close the game, the launcher wants to download the pre-patch again. I know it's supposed to close once it 'sees' that the files are all there, I've seen it do so on a friends computer. On my own machine though, if I leave it alone, it will download the whole patch again and again.

Will I actually download 5gb's, of course not. It'll probably be somewhere between 3.5-4gb's. After downloading the pre-patch twice and keeping Tribble updated, I'm just glad I don't have a download cap.

I'm curious of what speeds you're running at right now and/or if its maybe an overload on cryptic's end.

I only have a 1.5mb download speed, so that's part of it. Currently I'm actually only getting between 70-85k download speeds from Cryptic. It varies quite a bit but my guess would be that's because the download server is being hit hard due to the new season.

Not to mention how Cryptic might be taking priority of requests, which this is an assumption, those with the fastest speeds making requests get serviced better.
