Preparing for season 9

rahmkota19rahmkota19 Member Posts: 1,929 Arc User
Hey guys,

I put up a similar thread about this subject back when season 8 was about to launch, so I figured to put in another one. Some advice as to how be as prepared as possible for next week, so you can enjoy all the new content as soon as possible.

Getting ingame
- Sign up on Tribble. You don't have to play on it. It will add an option in your launcher above the patch progress bar. If you patch Tribble, you will have downloaded all Season 9 files that are currently present there. That way, when everybody will start their major patch on the 22nd, you just sit there and let your launcher copy files instead of download them from a server that is glowing red due to everybody patching.

- Prepatch. When you close STO now, you get the launcher that starts patching. Let it finish this patch. This contains Season 9 files. The launcher will shut itself down afterwards, so you don't need to keep an eye out on it.

- Go Gold. If you are not ready to wait for hundreds (or thousands) of people that want to get in the game, get a subscription. You get placed up front of the login queue. Think of the Disneyland Fast Pass, a similar system.

Ingame
- Replay "Mind Game" if you are a Romulan. Get the Bio-Molecular Warhead Launcher. This is a nice Photon Torpedo Launcher with a 20% damage modifier against Undine. It will come in handy for the missions you are about to play. Make sure to play this BEFORE the 22nd.

- Position yourself either in the Dyson Sphere, ESD or in Gamma Orionis. In the Dyson Sphere for the new FE or the Undine Battlezone. ESD if you want to see the awesome updated station. In Gamma Orionis if you feel like replaying the revamped Borg/Undine story arc.

- Get Plasma resistance. The Borg and Undine are using plasma-based weaponry. Getting resistance against this will ease the combat you will have against these enemies.

- Get the language you are playing the game in up to speed. One of the new PvE's, a ground one on Bajor, will be based around dialog reading and picking the correct option. Make sure to be able to read this dialog, otherwise players will get frustrated over you.

If anybody else has suggestions or improvements on what I said (I was not active testing S9 on Tribble, so

A few things I wanna add in myself

For the waiting part? You may want to wait on waiting in the Dyson Sphere bit. You probably won't be able to get in until "A Step Between Stars II" (or whatever is going to be called) is completed, so you'll probably be wasting your time there.

    A few other things:

    1) If you haven't done so, get the Ancient Warp Core and Omnidirection AP Beam Array from "Sphere of Influence". The new Fluid Dynamics comes with better AP weaponry, so if you want to farm AP weaponry without paying Dil and fleet credits out the nose, this is a better place to do so (IIRC, they're still Mk XI, but they have [CrtlH] [Dmg] and [Acc] tags to them)

    2) DON'T start any reputations until next Tuesday. You'll save a lot on EC and XP

i agree grab the bio-molechular warheads from mind game people said they was gonna remove them but acctually i found mine on tribble my other copy tooned was bugged so it looks to be grandfathered in so meaning grab them on all ur romulans.
Also u might wanna farm up for all ur toons and boffs the http://sto.gamepedia.com/Phase-Shifted_Personal_Shield

Thanks, I was thinking about a thread like this the other day. So, if you have started reps but not finished, what are the recommendations? Also, you might want to pick up another game to play for the first two weeks or so.
Have you tried the new forum on your phone?

I'd say stop and wait it out depending on where you are. If you're close to completing a Tier (like a day or two away), go ahead and do so to get it over with. Just don't do anything else.

And another thing I just realized - save up your Zen, Lobi and all of that. Master Keys go on sale, like, a day or two after the patch drops and there's guaranteed a new Lobi ship to come out.

My suggestion is to not actually log in at all. Install the patch on launch day and leave STO alone at least for a few days.

Trying to get in on launch day could mean either staring at the login screen while waiting in a queue, or somehow you managed to get in only to have to deal with the hideous lag and bug issues that will inevitably happen.

Do you have any link about AP weaponry that comes with Fluid Dynamics (will it be with boxes you get for completing reputation projects?) They didn't mentioned it in last dev blog.

the ap weaponry is the mission rewards for fluidic dynamics on tribgble i've seen the mission stuff so yeah it's there though they are mk xi though still free ap is better then paying out of the behind lol.

Dude, don't forget to pick up your flame retardant suit from the cleaners. It's not like you want to wear polyester on launch day anyway.

Back at the OP, I agree with those recommendations as well as being prepared that due to server load you might not be able to play on launch day. Have a backup plan or have a large amount of patience when you try to log in on April 22nd.

I have no idea where that link redirected, I am kinda unable to view that page right now. Guess somebody removed it. Seeing the responses of the two fellow captains above me, I am not missing out on something.

On a sidenote: the Preparing for Season 8 only got 2 replies, so this is almost 10 times better! YES!

My only two cents: 1) start hoarding marks, dilithium, exp, EC, and maybe some keys and zen. 2) Ensure connection is not lagging and do a couple of speed tests. 3) A pair of sharp sushi knives and a whole lot of rice and nori (wasabi and preserved ginger optional) -OR- a 23x25x10 meter frying vat with alot of frying batter (potatoes, vinegar, pepper, lemons, et al. optional) or both if you can't decide how you want your Undine...I mean "calamari" done. 4) And this one is completely optional, mute in game music and play this instead: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UmUVXOXiLeM or any other epic music that you like.
    Rejoice JJ Trek people....

    Mostly prepared by now.

    1. dumped almost all Dil in fleet projects.
    2. sub cancelled (yeah, those still exists :P )
    3. chars parked into easy to get back into it locations for when I'm less disapointed with stuff like removal of the after 50 progression system (Reps as they where & had been promoted) or lore sharkjumps like undine playerships.

Except for the LOR-Release, I never had to wait in the login-queue as a silver, even during the weekends and during prime-time. Imho it's definately not worth the money, just to skip the queue that either won't be present at all or just cost you a minute or two.
