Oh boy, here we go again............. I really hate ship selecting

Ok...... So I'm an engineer, used to fly escorts on him to supplement the dps...... Which is currently the name of the game. So I have some escorts.... But the gameplay was boring... REALLY boring. Went to cruisers, experience improved dramatically. (Beams are really [imo] much better than cannons) anyways. I like flying certain ships, but I want to kill things REALITIVLY quickly, (discovered kerrat) not a vaper, but reasonable..... Oh wait..... I like the Intrepid. TRIBBLE. "Lets combine the 2 low dps skill sets and kill things!...... See my dilemma? I like the galaxy, hopefully gonna get the 3 pack, but that's for it's own purpose. Really what I'm saying is...... I want a build that kills things, but I'm broke so... Yeah. And it's an engi till I buy character slots later. I will only use phasers.... 5-8 thousand dps is the target, with phasers. So,engi in a sci ship, 7 thousand dps. There's my challenge to u. And a galaxy would be great 2 but I got that covered I think. Please use stoacademy.com skill planner, complete with a skill tree that ill try to copy later.any of the intrepids is fine, I can get it one way or another.

Engineers are going to be naturally good for tanking, so what you need is a ship that is great for damage output to supplement your lack of offensive ability. So look around for a ship that has at least a Lieutenant Commander Tactical slot. For this purpose, the Avenger is the ideal choice for both Engineers and Tacticals. If you can get the Fleet version, please do.

Here is my own Engineer build.
I completed a 2-man CSE, ISE, and KASE, Optionals included. And I soloed Winter Invasion.

    I am confused.

Do you want DPS or PvP?

The two are not the same.

Get a carrier? JH carrier can dish out dps and tank, recluse is a weapon short but its powerful as well. Avenger or anything more tactical will work too.

If you insist on the intrepid, you have no tac consoles, no tac officers, and 6 weapons. Its asking a lot to get top dps out of this ship, esp if you mean single target dps. I have no answer on trying to solve that problem ... rep passive skills help, best weapons and tac consoles help, high end sci dps attacks will help some.

    DBB up front seems reasonable.

But you are in the wrong ship for your goal.

There's always the Dyson Science Destroyer, using your engineer captain abilities to make up for its limitations then split the boffs between tac and science. Alternately, run the Vesta with LtCmdr Tac and again play the half-and-half game, and its certainly better looking than the Dyson (though lacking the Proton cannons).

I only have the C-store intrepid, which I recent aquired with my VA ship token.

    I have never flown her...

I will see what I can do with one.

If you don't like the looks on the Avenger, the Excelsior Retrofit is very good DPS wise as well and can take a few more hits, and its got that classic Excelsior look :D

I got kinda angry cuz it costs to rename your ship. I had just bought a ship and I wanted to use the free rename, so I did, I rename it the Frontier, but I spelled it wrong without noticing so now my ship is called the Fontier. And I can't do anything about it.:mad:

Totally off topic, but the rename cost is a joke. couple thousand EC.

    Hmm.. Phasers, two tac consoles...

All I can say is give your tac Boff Tactical Team and Beam Fire At Will 2, and give the ship six beam arrays, no torps. Try to save up for Vulnerability Exploiters from yours or another fleet's Spire. You'll need two.

I'm leaning to FAW1/AP:B1 + transporter doff + manual shield redistribution. The ol' girl is going to need all the help she can get...

I ended up with surprise company tonight, so I didn't get much play in. I did hit 7k on the one fleet alert I flew. I'll see what I can do tomorrow.

well as a Eng you ship your gonna want is the avenger atm but being your not wanting it. you can go with the Armitage Class Escort Carrier aka the Akira. its a bit more tanky then the escorts your flying now plus you get some toys like fighters and a nasty aoe torp ability. this thing was defiantly made for aoe damage. with everything leaning more to a tac side of things you would blow threw normal pve like it was not there.

You ask for the impossible, and I deliver.

I'm just under 8k. If the group that I was in did better (we barely made optional) I would have been firmly over 8k.

Good luck, you need to fly really well to pull off that much DPS in a phaser intrepid...

Edit: Doffs are in the notes tab

I actually have been running the dyson freebie.. i like it alot on my engi, ill post the builds later. thanks for the feedback btw.....i am not wanting the exel quite yet, cause it gots a biased buff (better than alot of ships)and sounds like it "might"(not) get nerfed. but its on the "to get" list, along with the vestas, oddies, avenger, voy refit, and several others. sounds like i now need to get a voyager.. :D

Off topic, but most people I see in Excelsiors don't really do that well.

But, there is this one guy, an engineer... I don't know how he does it but every time I see him I have to just tip my hat to them...

Huh, so it's not just me who finds escort combat boring? Awesome.

I'm in the same situation as you, my main is an engineer and I find I can't "settle" on a ship. I've got mostly cruisers but I've got some carriers, escorts and science ships to suit my taste of the moment.

I have no advice for the intrepid (sorry) however your two main DPS cruisers are the Excelsior and assault cruiser refit. You can pull off high DPS in all the other cruisers but those two are the best "starting" point.

As a tactical officer, I find escorts boring now. >.>

Cruisers and science ships are much more fun.

I've flown as Intrepid as a tactical captain and I seemed to do pretty well (I've never used a DPS meter). For that ship, most of your damage is likely to come more from science abilities than from your weapons.
