Loot left on the battlefield

section31agent#8506 section31agent Member Posts: 665 Arc User
We have all been there...STF mission is over and the loot is scattered all over the field but your teammates have left already abandoning the loot. Why don't they make it so that the rest of the team on the map can then plunder the spoils of war once they have been left behind?

It may sound silly but some players do not want to see ANY opportunity for profit go by the wayside. So what do you guys think?

I'd rather when the player leaves, their unclaimed loot leaves as well. Too damn cluttered on some maps.

I'll take this over spending dev time to allow one scavenger to cruise around the map for 20 minutes to collect 35,000 EC worth of vendor trash.

the issue i have with the loot is how much TRIBBLE you find that is worth next to nothing, so to me i dont pick it up and just leave the TRIBBLE behind, i do the same on swtor as well. however the loot rolls on shields, engines, cores and deflectors, i always need on these because you make the most of trash loot if you win it lucky.
    T6 Miranda Hero Ship FTW.
Been around since Dec 2010 on STO and bought LTS in Apr 2013 for STO.

Sometimes I just pick up the junk left behind during the mission just to clean up the map. I find it very annoying when the "Pick Up Loot" button appears in the middle of the screen when I am in combat.

I then simply dump lockboxes at the end of the mission and sell the various batteries along with the other valuable things at the nearest vendor. Of course if too much TRIBBLE fills my inventory then I dump the items during the mission, but that rarely happens.

However, not all left over junk on the battlefield is worthless. Many times I have picked up nearby loot with decent value (50k+ EC), even a few Phaser Relays of various marks which I was able to sell on the Exchange for 50k to 150k ECs from time to time.

^This is why I said this is the worst drop loot MMO in history, not even Neverwinter gets treated like this, and personally I find it hilarious that players defend this system so they can have access to ever special loot in the game. It makes repeating these non-changing missions even more boring than they already are.
Considering that the vast majority of good loot comes as mission rewards while leveling I do not see why dropped loot is that big a deal - and this is especially true at end-game where all the good stuff comes from the Rep System. I mean, the incentive to do the Reps to T5 is to get the equipment. If you can get as good or better items from the drops why do the Rep grinds?
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Actually, I came to the conclusion that NW is WORSE. Why? Because most of the time in NW when you DO get a loot drop it's one you can't use. It's like: Yay! a blue drop! oh wait... it's boots for a paladin.... but I'm a wizard....

Thus leaving you to either try selling it on the auction house, or vendor trash it. In STO you get stuff that you at least COULD use IF you wanted to... although you usually don't. But NW has that issue too. "I got a green orb.... except my blue one is better...."

The loot rolls could do with being totally re-written for lvl 50 players (not sure if that's possible) Pretty much everything white and green at Mk X and mk XI gets vendored or dumped, because most (all) VA's by that time are at least running Blue's or purples and Rep gear.

There usually isn't even a point trying to put them up on the exchange, as most of the time, there are 400 of the same item, and some idiots are trying to sell them for LESS than the recycle value even (go figure)

Just make it so that loot drops for lvl 50 players are Regenerators and Components for heals/repairs and/or Marks ... Replace that worthless White Mk X Force Field Console with 1 x Fleet Mark or 1 x Omega/Dyson/Rom Mark depending on the content.
Oh, hoho hohhhhh, Oh,, hoho, hohhhhh

Scavenger here. Some of that 'vendor trash' is pretty useful, for me at least. Especially the batteries.

everyone needs because there is always a jerk who needs, even if he doesn't. it's not as bad on here but it was TRIBBLE on "that other" MMO where a toon would need on an item he could not use

the problem is apart from lockboxes that nobody wants you never can tell what has been dropped till you pick it up, also any non LBox item has a recycle value even if its only a few ec pick up and recycle and you will be shocked how quickly the ec mounts up.
if its a tribble you pick up keep a canable tribble handy then send the carcasses to your kdf to turn in for GPL.

When I think about everything we've been through together,

maybe it's not the destination that matters, maybe it's the journey,

and if that journey takes a little longer,

so we can do something we all believe in,

I can't think of any place I'd rather be or any people I'd rather be with.

back on track. the only loot that you cannot pick up in a STF pug is the other guys WHITE items and lockboxes..

so its basically just junk.. leave it there.

i have auto loot selected it the preferances but this only saves you confirming that you want an item after you have clicked take item, i want an auto auto loot so that i dont even need to click take item so that any drop that i get near will be automatically picked up and placed in my inventory.

i can easily go through my enventory and dump or recycle stuff i dont want at a later stage.
