There was at least one instance where I deliberately went after the dreadnought even though there were still 4 portals open because the team wasn't closing the rifts fast enough and it was pounding the station enough to reduce the mark reward.

More a delaying action than anything. But I agree, most of the time it's just a waste of time to go after it before the rifts are closed.

Pulling aggro to save the station? That makes sense to me. But having 4 ships pound on the Dread from the get go? And no one moves away as I (you, the 5th man/lady/thing) desperately try to close rifts. Heavens above have mercy on their souls cause I sure won't.

I'm still baffled by all the leeches in the MU event. I run 5 characters through this, and tonight I had someone sitting in place the entire match all 5 times.

Does the penalty just not work for this event or something?

This event taught me that ultra casual STO is still too hard for many players, and I'm talking about the NORMAL difficulty here. I never even thought it is possible to die in a fight against a friggin' Miranda, yet I've seen countless players in various ships nonstop blowing up.

Since they eventually grow sick of dying they then proceed to avoid every mirror ship and only power up the station defenses.

This is why we can't have nice things.

While I also see a lot of people failing to close the rifts (hell, they kill every ship around them, but then they just move on...), I had a very nice ME (elite) pug yesterday with everyone knowing what to do, nice damage and a reward of 75 marks at the end.

    So there is that.

Random groups can alsways be hit and miss, in STO as well as in DOTA 2 or WoW.

to stop that you have to disable auto attack and turn off your auto firing weapons otherwise your going to be stuck shooting at things even if you dont want to.
Can't one simply turn off auto-attack and when you desire to close a rift, hit ESC to 'untarget' whatever you're shooting at? With no active target your auto-firing weapons don't have anything to shoot at.

I think the AFK penalty doesn't apply to this event, mainly because a player who concentrates on closing rifts and not shooting could get tagged as AFK and get the penalty.

On the plus side, I've had two good runs in a row. Last night we pulled 50 marks in a normal MI - I actually experienced the 'no mo rifts' bug for the first time.

Meh. I got a cloak on every character. So I cloak and go after rifts when the ships leave it. If not, I decimate them with my Defiant/B'Rel or Romulan Equivalent (Soon to be the T'Varo).

I don't even care about the bonus, which is more marks... Whoop-di-doo, more marks. Meh. I just care about getting the transporter device.

If I'm in my Science Destroyer or my Odyssey Tactical Cruiser, I'll close rifts or power up the station, respectively, so long as someone is willing to take the aggro off me, which rarely happens.

They do this because they believe this is the same Mirror event as before. "SHOOT EVERYTHING AND IGNORE THE STUPID OPTIONAL OBJECTIVES!"

Which is surprising, because this event is for 50's only. The Mirror farm closed down, why bother zerging through it? You get LESS rewards the faster you clear!

I've seen this too and I don't get it.

I had one guy in a Fed DSD who couldn't take down a 3 pack of Mirandas. He ended up having to pop evasive maneuvers and run away. I watched him attempt to engage a second time, but a Trident sci ship spawned from a nearby rift and attacked him. He panicked and popped evasive again. This time though, he ran all the way to the other side of the map and abandoned any further attempts. He eventually followed someone in a Gal-X and just took pot shots at things from behind him.

The saddest part is that they even took out the necessity of READING the objectives. Obisek TELLS you what they are. Nope. People still too dumb to get it.

Once I get my 14 transporters (lost two days because of the outages), this mission will get filed in the same place I put Fleet Blockade. It seems that in most pugs everyone just wants to pew-pew and ignore the purpose the mission. To frustrating for someone like me who normally queues up according to the spotlighted rewards (aka fleet marks). I can see where those maps could be fun with worthwhile mark rewards in a pre-made team who knows what they're doing, but using the public queues...

Even the worst Fleet Alerts or Elite Crystaline Entity reward more marks than an average (normal) Mirror Invasion run. Suprise, suprise though - those two missions are all about the pew-pew. Only the carrot at the end of the 14-day stick offsets the playing time that I'm wasting on this mission.

I actually had someone get down right rude with me when I suggested that closing rifts was paramount to final reward score. I think my face still hurts from how hard I facepalmed.

Yes. But this happens a lot of times precisely because that dyson destroyer was searching for someone that was already fighting the ships from the rift. If he cant find anyone, he have 2 options, fight himself the ships or run away to try to close other rifts. Its never recommended to fight the ships poping up the rifts with a ship that is not capable of decent dps. So some players, just dont waste time and fly away to just aid other people. That is not a bad thinking, on the opposite.

Its better to gain time closing rifts faster than try to fight the ships if you dont know you can take em down fast. And specially if u know your team is noob and nobody will help you to close the rift while you already decided to fight the rift ships. And once you are started, u cant just go away. They will not let you lol. Thats the problem, every ship emergin from a rift will attack you no matter what, so , sometimes you get surrounded by ships in a moment without doing almost anything lol.

The problem is, still, people doesnt know that going 4 guys to the very same spot is not a good choice. So, the only guy that is doing what it is supossed to do, go to the other side to spare the effort, is not the one who is doing things wrong, precisely. But sometimes it is just useless to keep trying to tell your teammates that someone needs to go with you, they just dont listen.

And i am not really proud to say it, but i am one of "those" that no longer goes to close the rifts anymore. I just keep fighting ships no matter what and i dont waste more time trying to close the rifts. Someone else will do it. Because im really tired of trying to do the things in the right way, and in the end, its useless, so, lets just kill some ships, to enjoy myself, and in the process we can get to the timer faster. As long as i get my transporter, everything is fine lol. Maybe this is the very reason we see so many pew pewers in the event. I really cant blame em.

A good thought, but he didn't close a single rift the entire time. Not even when following the GX. He really was that bad.

Well thats another story. If you have a science destroyer and you go to a rift, and you see someone's else is fighting the ships, its your duty to close that rift. If you dont do so, you will receive a big FACEPALM right away lol.

Ok, now I'm curious. What amount of marks do you guys get from this?

I've had good, bad, and ugly MUE runs, and I've seen a bunch of different mark rewards from it.

The worst I ever saw was a 38 mark reward (on elite) where I swear I was the only one doing anything.

Best I saw was a 75 mark reward (also on elite) where I got the one group I've ever had that had to wait for the dreadnaught because we'd killed everything else.

I don't have a regular group to play with, so all 8 of my chars get PUGs to get through this event. At the start, I'll go for whatever isn't being done (rifts, sats, ships, whatever) regardless of the ship and char I'm in. If the station goes down, I'll concentrate on getting the defense level to 5, then I'll cloak and wait out the mission timer for the dreadnaught. Once it shows, it's back into the fray, clearing out each rift and closing it (usually on my own).

On average, I get 45-50 marks for this mission's elite run, just because I seldom see anyone closing rifts, or doing anything useful. I've geared most of my chars to be tank/agro combos so if someone wanted cover to close rifts, they could just follow me around, although I've never seen anyone do that yet.

Anything from 40 to, on a good day, 80.

Initially I was doing the elites, but after getting regularly around 70 marks they started dipping to around 60...then below.

So I started doing the hard runs (I see folks calling it 'normal' but it has two chevrons on the difficulty) just to avoid frustrations.

1 out of my last 20 runs was below 40 marks. It was actually very bad. 32 marks. It was horrible. One disconnect, one leech, and the rest of us. I think I was the only one that could easily take out any ship that came through the rifts. Hell, I can pop those battleships in about 20 seconds by myself.

We did fairly well I had thought all things considered, the starbase was shut down once. And we had only gotten one level of defense lmao.

I died like 5 times just because of us getting overwhelmed. When the best player in the queue is me in my T'varo trouble is brewing lol.

This is a spiral. The first days, i did elites, around 70-100 marks every run.

After that, i realized it was almost stupid since i dont needed so many marks, so i changed to normal. Then i started receiving about 50 marks for every run.

Now, the problem started when people realized that there was no "need" to "cooperate" or communicate with other teammates to pull out all the rewards. Everybody doing what they wanted, as we said in previous posts. So, 30-40 marks every run in these conditions. But i really dont care, i just want the transporter.. lol.

I've gotten as high as 55 (on normal) but I was once on 'team' that got as low as 25ish -very, very sad- with 45ish being about average. No support what-so-ever on that 25 mark run. A science ship having to clear its spawns before closing the rifts (I think I managed 5), only two upgrades run, and I don't know how many times the station went to zero structural integrity.

Well, the changes to the rifts in today's patch certainly didn't help things. I ran two runs just to test the changes. Both times there were so many rifts open that we couldn't keep up. First run we got 32 rifts closed, but the station was still overwhelmed. Second time we got 26 rifts closed, but both the station and the poor Vo'Quv attempting to defend it got blown to smithereens. It's rough.

Best so far has been 83 when the group actually played together (gotten it in both my best ships and my farm toons). Worst has been 30, in an Elite (not a very elite group). Tactics with the right mix of ships is more important than anything else (especially after the botched 3/27 patch), but too many people just think in terms of 'TRIBBLE tactics, I have fleet gear!' and get overwhelmed. I'll be glad when this is over.

The update has made matters much worse. The spawn rate on the rifts and the ships is insane now and this is on normal. I don't know if it is possible to save the station at all with the changes as the screen is flooded with rifts on top of rifts. Even a well coordinate team can get quickly overwhelmed. A pub squad has no chance at all.

    Two 27s. A mess of 30 - 35s. A few 40s and two or three 45s.

Lately no one seems interested in the rifts until the second stage then they start closing them like they were going out of style.

Closing 10 rifts with an escort after soloing the spawns is never a good sign.

Last night I had one run with my Vesta where my screen was basically solid phaser beams when I tried to clear up the other side of the map. With someone screaming in team to close rifts. Not another friendly ship in sight of the fracas. I'll have to give the Vesta credit, as long as its shields are up it's a sturdy ship. Sadly a screen full of enemy phaser fire has a pretty good chance of knocking them offline.

I'm sitting afk in a Mirror right now. no one wanted to close rifts or even power up the defense while i drew aggro away from the station. they jsut kept coming in droves until I was destroyed. I've had great pug runs with 80-plus marks and a few with under 30. This looks like the latter:mad: I'm sick to death of this event and I'm not ashamed to say I'm only here for the loot now across eight toons.

And yeah 7 more to go.

I think that's the point. Now with so many rifts opening, maybe people will pay attention and CLOSE rifts instead of blasting the current wave and bailing to find another.
