I want some community feedback regarding how the game is evolving and the opinion of a minority group in the community, PVP Engineer Healers.
1. Do you like the direction that engineers have been developed for space in this game?
2. Do you feel that an engineer can ever compete with a tactical in terms of offensive capacity in space? please specify the build type you believe can do so.
3. Do you believe that it is possible now for an engineer to indefinately tank against a veteran bug ship or kumari?
4. Do you believe that engineers are being repeatedly nerfed in some form or another?
1. Yes
2. Yes, mine does every day. Too many people, even some veteran PvPers, are still in denial about the power of the Avengineer.
3. Yes, and said escort will die every time they try if solo. I will shrug off their alpha, heal through their spike, and if they stay near me they will die by pure attrition. Their only hope of survival is to not attack me at all and stay the hell away from me.
4. No.
Remember folks, tournament premades are the minority in the synergy. A solid engineer beamboat is both completely unkillable by a solo player (there is the rare and i mean VERY RARE solo vaper that can pull it off), and can do enough damage to be impossible to stay engaged with a protracted period of time.
My other engineer is a dedicated healer. It is not specced to do damage at all. It exists purely to heal the team. You cant have both worlds, there is simply not enough console/boff power space to do both effectively. You must choose. Damage or healing as your primary focus.

IRT numbers 1, 4, I was not aware that Engineers have been repeatedly nerfed. That claim to fame are Science Captains. But Engineers sit in a bad spot... Cryptic has no care for Engineers, which is good and bad. Good in that they're not going to tamper with Engineer effectiveness. Bad in they're never going to improve Engineer effectiveness. In short, they're in Purgatory. They're not going anywhere.
2. You are never going to compete with TAC or even SCI captains in space offensive capability, whatever ship type you decide to do, provided skill between the 3 captain types are the same. Engineers are good in 2 things:
a. Survivability
b. High Subsystem Power
These general leanings don't make for good attack prowess. Yes, the extra power will help in general, but it's nothing compared to what TAC can do or even SCI with Sensor Scan can do offensively. TAC will greatly increase attack strength with various captain or BOFF abilities. SCI's Sensor Scan is a small AOE that can land a very nasty resist debuff. But nothing Engineer does gives that kind of offensive or debuffing strength. Not saying an Engineer cannot do good damage. But an Engineer will not do the same level of damage that a TAC ever will in the same ship. TAC has too many tools for damage output, and today's STO cares only about one thing: Damage Output.
3. In today's game, esp. with the removal of __ Team shared cooldowns, yes, very much yes, provided you're in a tough Cruiser or Carrier. This has been possible even before the removal of __ Team shared cooldowns. The Bugship shouldn't be the biggest of your worries. It's the decloaking Warbirds that you should be worried about. Bugships are second fiddle to them, esp. when it comes to the initial alpha strike.
1) Yes, they are who keep me alive in bad situations when everybody is on me
2) Obviously not. Tactical captains will always deal more damage because of their profession-unique abilities. You can't hope to out damage a tac without a tac if he's doing things right.
3) Sort of, they'll have more resilience but less firepower and no, you can't tank forever in those ships.
2. Yes, mine does every day. Too many people, even some veteran PvPers, are still in denial about the power of the Avengineer.
No, just no. If you keep FAWing that's some real fake damage and even in that situation, a tac captain WILL outdamage you. It's totally normal that such ship outdamage a DHC build, they keep spiking instead of pressure damage. either you fight idiots or there's no point in what you said sorry.
have look at this match I did just yesterday with a tactical 5 DHC build Avenger (look for Riccardo in Blue Squadron). An engi in the same condition won't go beyond that number, it just misses tactical buffs such as APA3, Tactical Fleet, Tactical Initiative to cut 50% from tac powers, GDF! (this literally facemelts at low HP). and the list continues.

Let come the Borg set 'uber nerf' that cryptic is talking about and the boost to sensor scan, most engineers are going to begging you tacticals to save them instead of the other way around because they will not be able to keep themselves alive against a single dps science escort.
2. Do you feel that an engineer can ever compete with a tactical in terms of offensive capacity in space? please specify the build type you believe can do so.
A dedicated DPS-Engineer will deal less damage than an optimized DPS-Tac, but will have much more survival potential. An optimized DPS-Engineer will beat the pants off of a Tac who doesn't know how to click their Captain's abilities once in a while.
3. Do you believe that it is possible now for an engineer to indefinately tank against a veteran bug ship or kumari?
I had done so a year ago, where my opponent relied on sheer dumb luck or operator error to score any kills at all against my Regent. This was before Legacy of Romulus introduced Grace Under Fire. My Fleet Sovereign is geared more for melting PvE hordes right now, but I can easily respec it back to being essentially unbreakable.

Sensor Analysis is what will be receiving the change, and the only Tactical ships that will have it are the Tal Shiar Adapted Destroyer and Battle Cruiser. Otherwise, it will more-or-less be the domain of pure Science Vessels (and the DSDs lose it when they switch to Tactical Mode).
If you want to shake Sensor Analysis, the KHG/A-MACO shield will be your best shot in S9 since the sensor targeting assault from the Romulan Rep is getting completely changed.

I want this to be a unofficial player feedback thread regarding the state and development of engineers in the game.
Thank you.
