Okay we all have at one point tried to use a master key and tried our luck for that half of a percent chance we get a lock box ship and if you are like me you never got one even after opening around 15 or more lock boxes.
The lock box ship being the best prize in those boxes while the very rare doffs being the only other thing that is at least decent across all boxes that have them, while most other rewards feel meaningless except maybe the small amount of lobi you get.
The exchange prices for just about everything have been rising for some time possibly due to the amount of loot that can be obtained from mirror invasion elite.
A example of this is the fleet ship module which has gone up by two million EC on average making it now 9 million which compared to the boffs you get from the c store which are 7.5 million on the exchange it is now cheaper just to grind dilithium.
My fleet recently started raising EC for a event where it would be a battle to the death on the underused Andoria for a lock box ship, the amount of EC raised would be 85 million so the leader of our fleet would purchase the ship than give it to the winner along with any left over EC.
Now due to inflation a good amount of ships cost 90 million EC and up, now my solution to this is a temporary fix but would work for two months or so
A one week rise in the chance of obtaining lock box ships to maybe 10% or bring back the gold lock boxes,
I know cryptic doesn't want to mess with their monetary bovine but for those of us who can only throw real money in every now and then such a event even if only for one week would motivate us to spend real money for a reasonable chance to get a lock box ship.
Sorry for my ramblings but I want to get a feel out there for those that agree.
I agree that gradually creeping master key and fleet ship module prices has really hurt.
I used to be able to be a master key for 1.2mil when I first started playing, recently I've seen them up at 2mil in some cases.
I'm not sure dropping tons of lockbox ships will help the issue though.
"If this will be our end, then I will have them make SUCH an end as to be worthy of rememberance! Out of torpedos you say?! Find me the ferengi!".
Price increase + inflation is natural in online player driven economies...Cryptic would never directly interfere (Besides the 500m cap on exchange items) Would simply TRIBBLE off players and be all around bad for business...
Does it stink for newer players who want that shiny lobi/box ship? Sure, best suggestion would be to wait for a sale, during which make sure to farm daily, and spend money for Keys or Fleet modules to sell...Sell them then buy a ship.
People have been playing this game for a while and there are quite a few at EC cap on multiple characters -.- so of course theyre going to start buying out the lower priced ships ionly leaving higher priced ones
I buy master keys simply because I am capped at 10 billion being a free player. My thought is that if I need money I can always sell the keys back on the market. I am fairly recent to the game and when I started playing STO the price more or less floated between 1.9m and 1.95m ECs.
I bought my last key for 2.2m ECs. I did that because I hit the 10b EC limit again. However, this time I actually went beyond that because a lot of items I listed on the Exchange were bought up... a lot quicker than I anticipated especially since I was not under cutting other people's prices.
Looking at all the stuff sold my account would have been sitting at around 10.5b ECs if it were not for the cap.
Ever since the announcement for the chance to win a Jemhadar Attack Ship prices of master keys has gone up.

The Dilithium exchange is going to inflate once people start trading the DL they're gonna get from the Mirror Event. The same thing happened both times we had the CE event.

That's it?
I've been wanting to pick up a D'kora for some time now and the price has been a stable ~130 million for at least a month now, perhaps more. Then last night, someone must've bought all the ships and is now selling them for 239 million.
Forget that ish. I'll let whoever that is sit on their mountain of ships, they won't be getting a single EC from me.
One reason key prices are going up and the items that are coming out of lock boxes can be related to the JHAS promotion. Please are converting/buying promotion romulan packs at the chance to get a JHAS and/or selling the packs on the exchange.
Once the promotion ends, they zen will flow back to the keys, and the lock box items, and the prices will lower.

I bought 5 D'kora ships from market at very cheap price long ago, and now they are in exchange for a reasonable price :P
Grinding for MkIV epic gear?

The problem actually isn't the drops it's the missions. The dailies, the ground missions, the events, the 1 foundry a day, just isn't enough EC to actually prevent the prices from rising like this in most cases. The problem with the ships is that they are so rare they are just stupid rare. RNG has never made a good system of controlling a market and manipulation of loot chances has never been a good way to keep prices nominal.
Add to that a currency that no one can farm without spending real money (Lobi) and you've got a serious systemic problem on your hands.
For example, I've opened all the boxes I can trying to get the second time ship because the console on it is great especially for a science captain. Did I ever see one? Nope. Do I have enough EC across all toons to get one? Nope. What's the best way of getting EC? Buying keys with real money and selling them in the store. How many keys will it take to buy a 90million ship? 90. See the problem there?
And that's also not including trying to buy enough keys to open boxes to complete the temporal set (all the devices/weapons, ground and space) You can't buy these directly, you have to build up enough lobi crystals to buy them which are randomized when you open a box which doesn't help either.

And you think this might actually happen?
Peculiar.
