After month's of disappointment and having run a Fed Tactical Officer through various ships Zen/C Store and Market Place to no success I have discovered how fun the KDF side is in all ways. My new main, an Alien/Romulan Engineer, has been the most fun I have had in a long while. However, because I have wasted my money and months of grinding on ships I don't like I cannot buy a twenty five dollar ship for my KDF character when the time comes.
Currently my engineer is running a Vor'cha Battle Cruiser, which I do enjoy greatly. However, as I reach closer to level 40 ( Level 34 currently.) I am looking to the endgame ships. However, as endgame ship's go on this side I am not sure which one to get. Unlike the fed side, they all tend to be very good. So, I am looking for feed back on these two particular ships, the Mirror Negh'Var and the Vor'cha Battle Cruiser Retrofit.
-Mirror Negh'Var: I bought the Mirror Heavy Cruiser Retrofit when it first came out on the market. I used it for quite a while on my Federation Tactical Officer. I really liked that ship for it's all around nature and that Science station most of all. The Mirror Negh'Var looks like twice as fun with that layout with the engine/weapon bonus and a built in cloak. However, the Mirror Negh'Var on the Market is not dirt cheap like it's Federation counterpart. Not to mention it has a turn rate of 9. Saving for it isn't the problem so much as wondering if it is worth the price.
-Vor'cha Battle Cruiser Retrofit: The Vor'cha Battle Cruiser has proven to be a solid, even nasty in combat despite it's Lieutenant tactical station. I really can't say anything bad about it. I found it more useful, tough, and more aggressive than the Tier 4 Galaxy ever was. The Vor'cha retrofit just looks like an even better improvement.
So, I am asking for feed back on these two ships to anyone that has used either one or both.
Is the Mirror Negh'Var worth the price tag?
Should I just stick with the Vor'cha line up to the fleet level?
Note: As play style goes I favor being a support ship that draws fire, helps other players, and gives out enough damage to be useful. I am not looking to be a DPS monster, just an Engineer.
Personally, if you like higher level science powers (mostly gravity well), but prefer cruisers, the mirror Negh'var is completely worth it. One thing to point out is that the Fleet Negh'var does not have that amazing lt.comm science slot, and thus plays somewhat differently than the mirror one. IMO, i have heard the Tor'Kaht (the Fleet Vorcha) is one of the best fleet battle cruisers in the game.
Since one costs EC and the other costs fleet stuff, get BOTH!!
EDIT: to add to that, you will HAVE to do damage, a full support role is useless in PVE in this game.
You mean a KDF Alien that looks like a Romulan, or a Romulan Faction AlienGen allied to the KDF? If you're Romulan Faction you couldn't use either ship as you can only use allied-faction ships that are level 30 and below, level 40 and higher allied ships can't be used. I'm guessing you mean a Romulan look-alike, but just wanted to clarify just in case.

Your correct. It's an Alien with the KDF that looks like a Romulan. I like Romulan's I just hate Romulan ships. So, yeah.
Note: I know I will have to do damage. This isn't my first run as an engineer. I've run two Fed Engineer's prior to this one. I guess I was just trying to say I am not in the obsessed DPS race in this game. I always figured as an engineer if I could tank a cube and put up decent numbers I am doing good.
fleet tor'kaht if you can save up the EC for the ship modules.
I have the mogh as well when it came out but have gone back to my beloved tork.
Mirror neg might be your best option though and they are not that expensive my fleet has a few in the bank that we just give to members as they lvl up. fleet neg I do NOT like at all though.
Trophies for killing FEDS ahh those were the days.
Between the Vor'Cha Retrofit and Mirror Negh'Var, I would go with the Mirror Negh'Var.
First, both will have the same TAC BOFF station numbers.
The Vor'Cha has +1 more turn rate though.
However, the Mirror Negh'Var has a LtCdr SCI station. Just like the Fed Mirror Hvy Cruiser, the ship is quite flexible in contributing to the team.
The last thing is ease of access in getting the M.Negh'Var. If you've been opening lockboxes, you should get one pretty easily. The cost of a Vor'Cha Retrofit isn't cheap though, unless you got it with the Free Ship Token upon getting to 40. If you still have the token, then by all means, get the Vor'Cha Retrofit. The ship will last you quite a while until you get the resources for better endgame ships.
Makes sense really. You get the Vor'cha for free at level 40 and you'll probably be sticking with it until you have the EC to grab a Negh'Var, then decide which suits your play style best and stick with it.
I own both too. And as a fellow engineer I have to say I spend far more time in the Vor'cha.
It's not the Negh'Var's fault though really. I do lack the science skillpoint investment to make real use of that Lt Com station. Perhaps I have been spoiled a little as well by just how nimble the Vor'cha is in comparison.
That ship is brilliant, and it suits my play style like a glove. With no serious investment it can do decent damage, it can tank and it can heal. Whenever any new content comes along I jump into my Vor'cha since I know it can handle whatever the game throws at me.
I currently run a Dual Disruptor Beam Bank on my Vor'cha in place of a Torp Crashdragon. I like using it to drop out of cloak, take out the first target quickly, and then turn and broadside the rest still standing. I like Dual Beam Bank's but I wouldn't use more than one on the Vor'cha however.
Plus, after running nothing but Feds for so long the turn rate of any Klingon Cruiser is nice.
Anyway, I want to say thank you to everyone that gave their point of view. It gave me something to think about and finally come to a conclusion. I am going to stick with Vor'cha class and move up to the Vor'cha Retrofit when the time comes. Eventually, I will no doubt get the Fleet Tor'Kaht. I'd say a Zen/C Store ship; however, I've never been happy with any ship I bought off the store.
Having read the replies the Mirror Negh'Var seems more than competent but I won't need to have it. On the Fed side the Mirror Heavy Cruiser was great because it was like buying a cheap Ambassador class with a turn rate of 8. It was a better ship to me by far than the Assault Cruiser. However, on the KDF side the Tier 4 Vor'cha has proven to be more than competent and Tier 5 Vor'cha look's to continue it. Not to mention, it allows me to use the 1.5 million EC I now have to be used on weapons and console's.
The beauty of the Vor'Cha, retrofit or Fleet version, is that despite the advent of the Mogh, is still a very capable cannon Battlecruiser. Simply due to the very easy handling of the ship with a 10 turn rate. Yeah, the Avenger / Mogh has 9, but that +1 is very noticeable. And that's even before throwing in RCS Consoles, A2D, etc.
You hear of people complaining about keeping targets in line for DHCs with the Avenger / Mogh.
You never hear much of that problem with the Vor'Cha, nowhere near that scale, and it's been around far longer. Vor'Cha Retrofit has been handling business capably as a cannon Battlecruiser since Day 1 of STO going live.
