The Galaxy Dreadnought Reboot (and that final touch)

flash525flash525 Member Posts: 5,441 Arc User
Whether it was because they listened to us, or because they wanted to do it for their own piece of mind, the Devs recently rebooted the Galaxy Class, and presented us with a Fleet Galaxy Dreadnought.

That's all very well, but you'd think they'd have done a complete job on the project, wouldn't you? I swear I remember seeing this mentioned before, though it would appear it's something that has been missed upon the reboot. Couldn't you have taken some time to properly align the spinal lance so that it's central to the rest of this ship?

And the next question, why aren't we able to use the Monarch skin with the Dreadnought?

It's the small things like this that irritate me the most; you go about redoing something, only to still not fix those small problems.

    Taco !!!

I think this is your area buddy :P

(I really had not noticed it to be honest - it's not exactly game breaking, as it's on the underside and for the most part, you look down on your ship. However, now I've seen it... it will bug me )

IIRC, ship exteriors are JamJam's. Taco does environmental and interiors.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

Taco is an environment artist, he doesn't do ships. JamJamz is who you need, or another ship artist.

Honestly I've been having so much fun flying the thing I don't even notice the model errors. Barely ever use the main lance either, mostly keep it separated.

They are aware of it and I'm guessing it'll come out with some of the fixes for Season9. During the recent Meet and Greet at Drozana Station with CaptainSmrik, someone asked him about it and he replied with
[3:35] [PartyTime] <Dev> Captain Smirk@pwecaptainsmirk: T'Laal the lance being off center is on our radar, so hopefully that will get fixed soon

Hangar pets are spawned at the aft torpedo launcher, catapult forward through the stardrive section and eject from the deflector dish...
Weapon hardpoints are all over the place, shots fired clip through the hull...

It's good that they're aware of it, but the opportune moment to fix it would surely have been with the Galaxy Reboot? What better time is there?

Pretty much Cryptic in a nutshell.

How long has it been like this? 3 years? 4? I forget. All I know is that it's been too long for something as small and minor as this to go unnoticed by the developers. And the fact that SOMEONE took the time to make those promotional images for the bundle and NOT NOTICE this blatant error, clear as day...is just absolutely baffling.

It's stuff like this that's really preventing this game from being far better than what it is now. Cryptic does really awesome things for this game, and then just drop the ball so damn hard on many other things that just makes us think, "What were they thinking?" *epic double facepalm*

The people who actually make the ships were busy with Undine ship upgrade, being as powers and stuff are a different department.

So what you're saying is - Cryptic's "code engineers" were responsible for this, as the ship-modelling/node-placing people have not been involved since the dev leak of the Galaxy X saucer separation around two years ago?

Well unless you can time travel, it seems kind of fruitless to walk down that path of debate. Moving forward they know about it, and will fix it at some point. Certainly seems better than the situation with some other bugs that they don't know about, can't replicate, and aren't scheduling to fix.

that was me asking that question (my fed science officer is named T'Laal), and I actually meant it as a joke and was actually asking when they would REALLY fix the problems with the gal-R and gal-X, but it flew right over his head.

    Ok, my mistake.

Though, I've not seen JamJam around for a while, probably why I forgot about him

To be honest, with the chaos happening during that meet and greet, I can see how that would happen.

The lance is off center on the Galaxy R too?

The Galaxy R? As in Retrofit? There is no lance on that.

Ian's division is one of the busiest in the game - as ships are one of the primary sources of income for STO. I am surprised they let him and his team go home to sleep let alone post on the forum. :)

I have no idea. I know though that on one of the ships (the Galaxy variants) there are windows missing from one side of the lower saucer. I remember someone saying about it, though I can't for the life of me remember which model they were referring too. Maybe it is the Gal R?

Yeah, it's been awhile since I've actually even looked at the Galaxy model that closely. Not sure what the graphics issues with it are. I've seen a few threads about it, but if memory serves, lately it's all been about issues with the Galaxy X. Especially the lance placement.

Probably never, as they like the Galaxy as is.

I like it as it is - even more now the 3 team powers do not overlap anymore.

I'm not saying it is perfect, but I found a couple of nice configs for it. I do feel like the odd man out at times when it comes to the Gal-R :(

Did you notice that the Odyssey In the Mirror Event has the Star Fleet Symbol on its pylons

I do not have the Odyssey so you'll have to forgive me if I'm wrong but it's not considered a Dreadnought class.

I am sorry to say this but again the reasoning behind playing these missions with no gear/accolades/or special skills that can be obtained from doing Foundry missions. This is similar to mods that are considered fantastic but are never considered official they are missing that final tough.
I think you are in the wrong thread, this discussion is about the Galaxy Dreadnought.

the Venture (Galaxy Refit) is missing windows on the bottom right rear of the saucer this also shows up when the skin is used on the Dreadnought.

True but both lances actually cover up the numbers (prefix) of the ship which seems odd to me. You'd think Starfleet would have raised the numbers as to not look so sloppy.

I am missing windows on the bottom left hand side of the saucer but like to think that section is battle damaged and is decompressed. ;)

(Side Note: Wish we could put skins with battle damage on our ships)
