What Cryptic COULD Have been doing during maintenance, but didn't

burningironeagleburningironeagle Member Posts: 17 Arc User
Fixing typos during the new Federation and KDF missions.

Fixing grammatical errors during the new Federation and KDF missions.

Fixing the presentation and voice-over awfulness on both sides.

Adding in a different female VO for half of the voices played by that same woman.

Buffing weapon types/Redesigning fleet tactical consoles so that Antiproton isn't the only on-par weapon anymore.

Fixing the zone selection window to read "Players" if the quantity of players is over 1. (Although, knowing Cryptic, they'd probably end up breaking the zone selection window.)

Fixing the bug that strips your bridge officers from your ship.

Adding an option to disable the widely-unwanted "Loadouts" feature that's been aggravating tons of players by rearranging their doffs and boffs without their consent or knowledge.

Fixing the glitchy multi-sampling option that keeps reading "UNTRANSLATED."

Properly renaming the Dyson destroyers to "Solanae Dyson Science Destroyer" since they're based on Solanae technology, which was merely used to create a sphere that someone named Dyson theorized could exist.

Changing all existing occurrences of "Dyson technology" to "Solanae technology."

Fixing the speaker pop that can't be disabled and effects players using 5.1 and 7.1 surround sound.

Fixing the keypress lag that causes unwanted abilities to activate when using ctrl+, shift+, and alt+ keypresses.

Fixing the exploit allowing players to equip mk XII gear on any level toon, thus ruining Gorn Minefield and Starbase 24 for those who don't know the trick.

Fixing the rather frequent mission bugs that force you to replay an entire mission, or large segments of a mission, making the game extremely unfriendly to new players.

Fixing the extremely poor cutscene segments that appear in certain episodes that make the game seem dilapidating to veteran players and disappointing to new players.

Fixing the incredibly erratic difficulty of episode missions, ranging from the Devidian bosses who just stand there and take a beating, to the incredibly difficult (especially for inexperienced players) Elachi + Romulan Commander room at the end of Installation 18. I don't think I've played that mission without dying in that room on a toon under level 50, and anyone who knows me ingame knows what an altaholic i am.

Adding a duty officer directly effecting the performance of ranged ground weapons.

Buffing Nadion Inversion to be on-par with the effect of Marion Frances Dulmur. That ability was supposed to be exclusive to Engineers, but now everyone has access to a stronger version with a shorter cooldown? lol

Adding Elite Fleet Plasma weapons for RRF players. (They are their own faction..... right? They do have access to their own technology, right?)

Adding a few different music tracks so that we aren't listening to the same 2 background songs the whole time we're playing. FYI, most players have their music audio set to zero because of this. It's really blooming annoying, and the songs that are there don't sound very trekky.

Updating aiming animations. I don't know of anyone who holds a pistol, bending their elbows, smack in front of their face, looking throw the sights with their nose as their eyes wander everywhere. The guy in the fancy Star Trek Online banner at the top of this page looks good, holding his phaser cleanly out in front of him in a determined and commanding stance. Give us that for the x-key aim mode, not this weird, unrealistic whatever-you-call-it we have now. Make it better for new players and old players.

Updating Plasma cannon/turret sound effects to sound less like a squeaky door.

Adding a purchasable c-store item that allows you to re-package a lockbox ship for trading. The profits for Cryptic from that would be extremely high, and the player satisfaction from that would also be extremely high.

Anyone have anything to add to this fine collection of crushed hopes and dreams?

LOL. Yup, but just visit the maintenance thread, everybody is happy, even if there is no fixing patch this week. I think everybody is already used to it. They know they will never get any REAL patch to fix any IMPORTANT bug, so , who cares anymore lol. But of course, since its prohibited to say bad things in the forums, nobody will say "wth you doing cryptic, if you want to definitely ruin the game, just say it and everyone will be stop playing in two weeks". But im happy lol, i said that in 2015 the game will be over, and every week after the useless patch i am really closer to that lol. See all those players that dont care about not having not even 1 important bug fixed, they dont care, since they keep paying their money to cryptic , but what they dont know is, it doesnt matter, if cryptic keep creating new content for those stupid players, because the game will not last more than 2015. IT will be so full of fails, bugs and glitches everywhere that it will be just not playable anymore. And then, my friend, all those people will regret all the money gifts they gave to cryptic for nothing. xD.

^^ Quite possibly the greatest non-issue I've seen fly by in a long, long time.

If that's part of your 'crushed hopes and dreams,' then maybe you need better dreams.

    More like "I don't want, I don't want, I don't want."

I don't want typos and poor grammar. I don't want loadouts to tell me what I want on my build. I don't want to listen to the same 2 lame songs over and over and over and over and over. I don't want a constant speaker pop. I don't want to be treated like a half-faction on my RRF toons when Cryptic told me they'd be they're own faction. I don't want to be sub-par with my phasers. I don't want to constantly repeat mission segments, etc.

Lol really, the voice-over awfulness? Oh yes.. they can snap their fingers and press a single button and the voice-overs will be much better according to you.

News flash... it isn't that easy..

And where are you pulling this from??

Fixing the exploit allowing players to equip mk XII gear on any level toon, thus ruining Gorn Minefield and Starbase 24 for those who don't know the trick.

I could personally do better than half these slow talking bad actors, and I'd be happy to do it for free. I know I'm not the only one. It's certainly not as impossible as everyone is making it out to be.

I'd reveal the trick but it's a bit against the rules. It's really not uncommon. You could probably ask on ESD and someone would tell you. I'm honestly surprised there's people who don't know, but if you do it on a noob toon, you're virtually guaranteed first place, as long as you keep stable weapon power and don't spend the whole match dead.

Then go apply to Cryptic as a voice-actor if you are as good as you say.

... why? I mean, everyone knows what it means and the tech is still constructed in the Dyson Sphere it self. A watch is based on a sun dial, but we don't call them wrist-dials do we?

Well, had these been problems for everyone, I'm sure they would have. I have yet to have an issue with the loadouts system affecting my ship in any way, nor have I had my bridge officers mysteriously removed. On top of that, if anything needs to be done about weapons, antiproton needs to be reduced in effectiveness, rather than increase everything else. Although, I've yet to see how AP weapons are all that more powerful than anything else. I still see plenty of others being used, so AP isn't as strong as you make it out to be. If you spend so much time on here that voiceovers are one of your concerns, then you need to take a break. Basically, everything you said was wrong. These are all menial concerns compared to what else needs to be fixed.

Do you mean they should do this during the 2 hours of maintanance, while everyone is sitting idly around and doing nothing? Or in the time they are working on the next big season update, that automatically will be rolled out where the devs can just sit idly around and do nothing?

Follow that link another poster posted... You can see what they are working. (And I believe I even saw a mention of Loadouts in one of those patch notes.)

I will rather prefer to play any other game eventually if STO keeps getting closer to the most bugged game ever in the history lol.

And i love star trek, and i love STO. But i play games for fun, not to have headaches xD. If eventually i need to just cut out, and probably not find any other star trek game, i will, and i will feel really bad for a while, but i will pass over it lol.

The OP is a laundry list of the poster's personal gripes, many of which go beyond trivial to things he dislikes that aren't actually even bugs. Posts like his are little more than white noise when it comes to telling cryptic about thigns that actually NEEDS to be fixed.

Ive lost all hope of any real bugs been fixed in this game. Ive put loads of bug report in for tribble n holodeck. Only about 10% have been fixed 5% there have clamed to fix but have come back in a few mths. 2% there said is fixed but u log in after patch to find its not fixed. Rest is ignored n just left in game with no comment.
