So you say that vaping in this game isnt a problem huh? so i put a challenge to a friend of mine ...i was joking when i said to him why dont you try to Vape sombody with a Cell ship..oh nevermind i said it cant be done...well he went about making a cell ship that was a vaper last night and what were the results ?? well with APA and tac fleet he managed to vape 9 people in kerrat 4 being the same person 5 others being different targets now when you have a cell ship able to vape people there might be a problem....so true believer.....how do you nerf anything in this game without pissing off the whole world ??

You can vape people with no resist or reaction speed in a tier 1 or shuttle.

lol :D Vaping a few random people in Ker'rat by a skilled player that knows what he/she is doing is nothing special.
There are many players, especially Feds, that find themselves there due to early missions or just for farming, who don't have any strong knowledge of how to build a ship, nor a basic idea about PvP or how to handle an attack. Or even expect one for the same matter. Those are sitting ducks, target practice if you will.
The numerous threads about how Ker'rat should be nerfed because "evil PvPers interrupt our farming" are clear evidence of this.

So while I'd give complimets to your friend for vaping in a cell ship which is an achievent by itself, this still not the necessary evidence of what you're saying because the chances those people he vaped had no idea how to counter it or what's even going on are quite large.
I'm not saying the vapes are ok, Kahless knows that PvP is in a broken state in STO, I'm just saying this is not the relevant evidence for this.

How? Using a Tricobalt I think? Not sure if Shuttles have much alpha strike capacity. Walk me through that?

Its kerrat you could kill people in a shuttle...Kerrat is full of no rep/ low gear players tryin to farm + hard core griefers who lover killing said players (Sorry cant really consider you a pvp if youd rather pew pew under geared players then face the better, more geared ones in a pvp match)

Generally I ignore people in kerrat even ones shooting at me, hit any heals I need to finish off whatever im killing to farm, collect loot, let them blow me up to feed their E-pee rinse repeat till inventory is full

Except that anyone who has a few brain cells to rub together ignores the tank and wipes out the easy prey instead.

There are some terrible players out there, much less if you get a chance to pounce on them.

Seriously, I helped a fleetmate of mine that had no clue what Emergency Power to Shields, the various X Team abilities, and whatever other repair abilities do. She didn't even know about the manual Shield Rebalance and what it does for you. It took a while to get her to understand and improve her knowledge of the game and fundamental build improvements. But it just goes to show what kind of stuff can out there that can be seen in an "open season" type of zone, as far as good players can go.

Now, try taking your cell ship or whatever ship you prefer against a competently played ship, then get back to us. There are some players out there in Cruisers / Battlecruisers, Carriers, or hell, even other Escorts, that you'll have trouble coming to grips with or getting past defenses. Most esp. so with the changes to X Team abilities and the removal of their shared cooldowns.

    It's mostly a PvP term.

"Vaping" refers to the act of killing something, usually another a player, with a major amount of spike damage in a 5 second or less window, to overwhelm any possible defenses before they are used.

Often times this is done on a de-cloaking attack, but you can 'vape' without a cloak. It just allows you to choose your window of attack better.

With the large amounts of defensive power creep and the like that have been implemented into the game, 'vaping' has become a lot more common because otherwise most fights will either boil down into insta-deaths or neverending fights with how much healing and the like can be passed around. Or endless FAW, that too.

Or a decloaking Scimitar vaping a whole team with FAW and other stuff like that. :P
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.

ive seen people in karrat that dont use station powers, so ya.....

with all the clicky consoles, and sets out there producing a ton of raw damage, you almost dont even need weapons anymore to vap, so of course a cell ship, or even a shuttle in theory could

I am not a pvp guru, but...
    - a rom shuttle can battle cloak, getting the dps bonus. Kdf as well(?) I think.
    - a tac captain can still mash AP-Alpha
    - you can put MK XII weapons on it of course
    - the better shuttles have room for some of the nasty devices -- effectively extra weapons, many of them...

so basically you pop out of stealth on a clueless player and blast them before they realize what is even going on with the above (and probably other tricks) in a well geared out captain's gig or one of the fighter type "shuttles" or something.

Lets not forget the rep bonuses, set bonuses, and uni consoles. The OP needs to provide all the other powers the cell ship had, PB, ISO, rep CritH passive. Most Vapes it is the BO/PB/ISO combo that does the damage.
Hey I Used to be Captain Data, well I guess I still am in game but the account link really screwed everything up

Yeah, pretty much so. Though a 'vape' is meant to be really quick and really hard to kill a person before they can start using their own large variety of stuff.

As some of the others mentioned as well, there's a lot of stuff out there that can make it a lot easier to vape. Proton Barrage, Tetryon attack from Nukara rep, uni consoles like Isometric, etc.

Vaping isn't as much of problem when you're dealing with people who know how to PvP. I.E., people who know how to defend against a large burst-damage attack (though even those folks are having trouble with the addition of the latest ridiculousness, the Proton Barrage). When you're fighting newcomers. . .yeah, they're susceptible to vaping. Especially de-cloak vaping, because learning how to counter cloakers takes a little longer to master.

That's why I, in Ker'rat at least, don't make a big habit of shooting people who clearly are either incapable of fighting off BoP ambush attacks (newbs), or simply aren't caring enough to fight back. I aim for the tanks, it's a lot more fun. Gotta find a weakness in their defensive setup. . .something that's notably harder to do lately. Usually takes 2 or more people to kill those guys.

EDIT: Also, more experienced PvPers know how to deter cloaked combatants. . .spam warp plasma, lay LOTS of mines, or use a high-aux cloak-hunter system with an effective subsystem-disable ability (killing aux power decloaks the target and activates the cooldown).

    Vaping is a problem.

Not why: People dying too fast. (This is personal preference, there's no way to make everybody happy, if the game is functioning as intended and you don't like it, find another game.)

Why: Devs have little understanding of how vaping actually goes down. This Time To Kill (TTK) metric has been mentioned by those with pretty yellow names. Yet we see little to no developer understanding of the interactions which produce a TTK of less than a second.

It's a problem not because the practice kills players too fast, but because it's a reality unknown to the people at the helm of the game.

You say this like its impressive or something. Anyone can beat anyone with anything in kerrat with bkrg all over the place. Do it in a 1v1 against any half decent player and see what happens.

It's not impossible to counter vaping, hard, but doable.

First, never follow lines, keep moving as it will be harder for vapers to get a perfect lock on you. If you have a RSP loaded, make sure to have a shortcut to activate it immediately. in worst case scenario I reached 30% with that active. TT1 can be a life saver as you multiply x4 the facing they have to deplete. In case of escorts w/o RSP, load purple shield distribution doffs and hope that shield regeneration overcomes the damage dealt, keep EPtS always up (can be achieved with at least blue damage control engineers with a 1 or 2 second of downtime before CD finishes) as it reduces the damage you take to shields by a percentage. If you're a cruiser entering battle, keep Shield frequency modulation up for even more resist or at least, try to stick near them. Avoid going full rambo with universal consoles and get a couple of enhanced Neutronium/RCS for some resist and add a few points to starship armor and hull plating to not get crippled by the first torpedo/energy damage hitting bare hull.

    Just my two cents :)

So you say white mark x12 items isn't a problem......

So i just went into kerrat, found a newb there just trying to farm, and killed him with my white items.
This therefore means that ALL white items are OP, and can't be countered. Please nerf white items.......
